The Supplication of Wednesday

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْم

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM.

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِىْ جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

AL-HAMDO LILLAAHIL LAZEE JA-A’LALLAYLA LEBAASANW

All praise be to Allah Who appointed the night to be a garment,

وَّالنَّوْمَ سُبًاتًا

WAN-NAWMA SOBAATANW

and sleep for a rest,

وَّجَعَلَ النَّهَارَ نُشُوْرًا

WA JA-A’LAN NAHAARA NOSHOORAN

and day He appointed for a rising!

لَكَ الْحَمْدُ اَنْ بَعَثْتَنِىْ مِنْ مَّرْقَدِىْ

LAKAL HAMDO A BA-A’STANEE MIM MARQADEE

To You belongs praise, for You roused me from my sleep,

وَلَوْ شِئْتَ جَعَلْتَهٗ سَرْمَدًا

WA LAW SHEA-TA JA-A’LTAHU SARMADAN

and had You willed, You would have made it everlasting;

حَمْدًا دَآئِمًا لَا يَنْقَطعُ اَبَدًا

HAMDAN DAAA-EMAN LAA YANQA-TE-O’ ABADANW

an endless praise that will never be cut off

وَّلَا يُحْصِىْ لَهٗ الْخَلَآئِقُ عَدَدًا

WA LAA YOHSEE LAHUL KHALAAA-EQO A’DADAN

and whose number the creatures cannot count!

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ اَنْ خَلَقْتَ فَسَوَّيْتَ

ALLAAHUMMA LAKAL HAMDO AN KHALAQTA FA-SAWWAYTA

O Allah, to You belongs praise, for You created, then fashioned,

وَقَدَّرْتَ وَقَضَيْتَ

WA QADDARTA WA QAZAYTA

ordained and decreed,

وَاَمَتَّ وَاَحْيَيْت

WA AMATTA WA AHYAYTA

gave death and bestowed life,

وَاَمْرَضْتَ وَشَفَيْتَ

WA AMRAZTA WA SHAFAYTA

made sick and healed,

وَعَافَيْتَ وَاَبْلَيْتَ

WA A’AFAYTA WA ABLAYTA

made well and afflicted,

وَعَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَيْتَ

WA A’LAL A’RSHIS TAWAYTA

established the Throne

وَعَلَى الْمُلْكِ احْتَوَيْتَ

WA A’LAL MULKEH TAWAYTA

and encompassed the Kingdom!

اَدْعُوْكَ دُعَآءَ مَنْ ضَعُفَتْ وَسِيْلَتُهٗ

AD-O’OKA DO-A’AA-A MAN ZA-O’FAT WASEELATOHU

I supplicate You with the supplication of one whose mediation is weak,

وَانْقَطَعَتْ حِيْلَتُهٗ

WAN-QATA-A’T HEELATOHU

whose stratagems have been cut off,

وَاقْتَرَبَ اَجَلُهٗ

WAQ TARABA AJALOHU

whose term has drawn near,

وَتَدَانٰى فِى الدُّنْيَا اَمَلُهٗ

WA TADAANAA FID-DUNYAA AMALOHU

whose expectation from this world has shrunk,

وَاشْتَدَّتْ اِلٰى رَحْمَتِكَ فَاقَتُهٗ

WASH TADDAT ELAA RAHMATEKA FAA-QATOHU

whose neediness for Your mercy has intensified,

وَعَظُمَتْ لِتَفْرِيْطِهٖ حَسْرَتُهٗ

WA A’ZOMAT LE-TAFREETEHI HASRATOHU

whose remorse for his neglect has become great,

وَكَثُرَتْ زَلَّتُهٗ وَعَثْرَتُهٗ

WA KASORAT ZALLATOHU WA A’SRATOHU

whose slips and stumbles have become many,

وَخَلُصَتْ لِوَجْهِكَ تَوْبَتُهٗ

WA KHALOSAT LE-WAJ-HEKA TAWBATOHU

and whose repentance is devoted sincerely to Your face.

فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ

FA-SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN

So, bless Muhammad,

خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ

KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA

the Seal of the Prophets,

وَعَلٰى اَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَّيِّبِيْنَ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ

WA A’LAA AHLE BAYTEHIT TAYYEBEENAT TAAHEREENA

and his Household, the good, the pure,

وَارْزُقْنِىْ شَفَاعَةَ مُحَمَّدٍ

WAR-ZUQNEE SHA-FAA-A’TA MOHAMMADIN

and provide me with the intercession of Muhammad,

صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهٖ

SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI

Allah bless him and his Household,

وَلَا تَحْرِمْنِىْ صُحْبَتَهٗ

WA LAA TAHRIMNEE SOHBATAHU

and deprive me not of his companionship!

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

INNAKA ANTA ARHAMUR RAAHEMEENA

Surely, You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اقْضِ لِىْ فِى الْاَرْبِعَآءِ اَرْبَعًا

ALLAAHUMMAQ ZE LEE FIL ARBE-A’AE ARBA-A’N

O Allah, decree for me on Wednesday four things:

اِجْعَلْ قُوَّتِىْ فِىْ طَاعَتِكَ

IJ-A’L QUWWATEE FEE TAA-A’TEKA

Induce me to be strong in obedience to You,

وَنَشَاطِىْ فِىْ عِبَادَتِكَ

WA NASHAATEE FEE E’BAADATEKA

to be active in worshiping You,

وَرَغْبَتِىْ فِىْ ثَوَابِكَ

WA RAGH-BATEE FEE SAWAABEKA

to be desirous for Your reward,

وَزُهْدِىْ فِيْمَا يُوْجِبُ لِىْ اَلِيْمَ عِقَابِكَ

WA ZOHDEE FEEMAA YOOJEBO LEE ALEEMA E’QAABEKA

and to abstain from that which would make incumbent upon me Your painful punishment!

اِنَّكَ لَطِيْفٌ لِّمَا تِشَآءُ.

INNAKA LATEEFUL LEMAA TASHAA-O.

You are Gentle to whom You will!
