The Supplication of Monday

Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْم

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM.

In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِىْ لَمْ يُشْهِدْ اَحَدًا

ALHAMDO LILLAAHIL LAZEE LAM TUSHID AHADAN

Praise belongs to Allah, Who allowed none to witness

حِيْنَ فَطَرَ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ

HEENA FATARAS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZA

when He created the heavens and the earth,

وَلَا اتَّخَذَ مُعِيْنًا حِيْنَ بَرَأَ النَّسَمَاتِ

WA LAT-TAKHAZA MO-E’ENAN HEENA BARA-AN NASAMAATE

and Who took no helper when He authored the spirits!

لَمْ يُشَارَكْ فِى الْاِلٰهِيَّةِ

LAM YOSHAARAK FIL ELAAHIYYATE

He has no associate in Divinity

وَلَمْ يُظَاهَرْ فِى الْوَحْدَانِيَّةِ

WA LAM YOZAAHAR FIL WAHDAANIYYATE

and no support in Unity.

كَلَّتِ الْاَلْسُنُ عَنْ غَايَةِ صِفَتِهٖ

KALLATIL ALSONO A’N GHAAYATE SEFATEHI

Tongues fall silent before the limit of describing Him,

وَالْعُقُوْلُ عَنْ كُنْهِ مَعْرِفَتِهٖ

WAL O’QOOLO A’N KUNHE MA’REFATEHI

intellects fail before the core of knowing Him,

وَتَوَاضَعَتِ الْجَبَابِرَةُ لِهَيْبَتِهٖ

WA TAWAAZA-A’TIL JABAABERATO LE-HAYBATEHI

tyrants fall low in awe of Him,

وَعَنَتِ الْوُجُوْهُ لِخَشْيَتِهٖ

WA A’NATIL WOJOOHO LE-KHASHYATEHI

faces are humbled in fear of Him,

وَانْقَادَ كُلُّ عَظِيْمٍ لِعَظَمَتِهٖ

WAN QAADA KULLO A’ZEEMIN LE-A’ZAMATEHI

and everything mighty yields of His mightiness!

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مُتَوَاتِرًا مُتَّسِقًا

FA-LAKAL HAMDO MOTAWAATERAN MUTTASEQAN

So to You belongs praise, again and again, well-measured,

وَمُتَوَالِيًا مُسْتَوْسِقًا

WA MOTAWAALEYAN MUSTAWSEQAN

continually, methodically!

وَصَلَوَاتُهٗ عَلٰى رَسُوْلِهٖ اَبَدًا

WA SALAWAATOHU A’LAA RASOOLEHI ABADAN

And may His blessings be upon His Messenger endlessly,

وَسَلاَمُهٗ دَآئِمًا سَرْمَدًا

WA SALAAMOHU DAA-EMAN SARMADAN

His salutation everlastingly, eternally!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ اَوَّلَ يَوْمِىْ هٰذَا صَلَاحًا

ALLAAHUMMAJ A’L AWWALA YAWMEE HAAZAA SALAAHANW

O Allah, make the beginning of this day of mine righteousness,

وَّاَوْسَطَهٗ فَلَاحًا

WA AWSATAHU FALAAHAN

its middle prosperity,

وَآخِرَهٗ نَجَاحًا

WA AAKHERAHU NAJAAHAN

and its end success!

وَاَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ يَوْمٍ اَوَّلُهٗ فَزَعٌ

WA A-O’OZO BEKA MIN YAWMIN AWWALOHU FAZA-U’N

I seek refuge in You from a day whose beginning is fright,

وَاَوْسَطُهٗ جَزَعٌ

WA AWSATOHU JAZA-U’N

whose middle is anxiety,

وَآخِرُهٗ وَجَعٌ

WA AAKHEROHU WAJA-U’N

and whose end is pain!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْ اَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِكُلِّ نَذْرٍ نَذَرْتُهٗ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ASTAGHFEROKA LE KULLE NAZRIN NAZARTOHU

O Allah, I pray forgiveness from You for every vow I have vowed,

وَكُلِّ وَعْدٍ وَعَدْتُهٗ

WA KULLE WA’DIN WA-A’DTOHU

every promise I have promised,

وَكُلِّ عَهْدٍ عَاهَدْتُهٗ

WA KULLE A’HDIN A’A-HAD-TOHU

and every pledge I have pledged

ثُمَّ لَمْ اَفِ بِهٖ

SUMMA LAM AFE BEHI

and then I failed to keep it.

وَاَسْاَلُكَ فِىْ مَظَالِمِ عِبَادِكَ عِنْدِىْ

WA ASALOKA FEE MAZAALEME E’BAADEKA I’NDEE

I ask You concerning the complaints of Your servants against me:

فَاَيُّمَا عَبْدٍ مِنْ عَبِيْدِكَ

FA-AYYOMAA A’BDIN MIN A’BEEDEKA

If there is a servant from among Your servants

اَوْ اَمَةٍ مِنْ اِمَآئِكَ

AW AMATIN MIN EMAAA-EKA

or a bondmaid from among Your bondmaids,

كَانَتْ لَهٗ قِبَلِىْ مَظْلِمَةٌ ظَلَمْتُهَا اِيَّاهُ

KAANAT LAHU QEBALEE MAZLEMATUN ZALAMTOHAA IYYAAHO

who has against me a complaint

فِىْ نَفْسِهٖ اَوْ فِىْ عِرْضِهٖ

FEE NAFSEHI AW FEE I’RZEHI

because I have wronged him in respect to himself, his reputation,

اَوْ فِىْ مَالِهٖ اَوْ فِىْ اَهْلِهٖ وَوَلَدِهٖ

AW FEE MAALEHI AW FEE AHLEHI WA WALADEHI

his property, his wife or his child,

اَوْ غِيْبَةٌۨ اغْتَبْتُهٗ بِهَا

AW GHEEBATO NIGH-TABTOHU BEHAA

or because evil words I have spoken about him in his absence,

اَوْ تَحَامُلٌ عَلَيْهِ بَمِيْلٍ اَوْ هَوًى

AW TAHAAMOLUN A’LAYHE BE-MAYLIN AW HAWAN

an imposition upon him through inclination, caprice,

اَوْ اَنَفَةٍ اَوْ حَمِيَّةٍ

AW ANAFATIN AW HAMIYYATIN

scorn, zeal,

اَوْ رِيَآءٍ اَوْ عَصَبِيَّةٍ

AW REYAA-IN AW A’SABIYYATIN

false show, bigotry,

غَآئِبًا كَانَ اَوْ شَاهِدًا

GHAAAEBAN KAANA AW SHAAHEDANW

whether he be absent or present,

وَّحَيًّا كَانَ اَوْ مَيِّتًا

WA HAYYAN KAANA AW MAYYETAN

alive or dead,

فَقَصُرَتْ يَدِىْ

FA-QASORAT YADEE

such that my hand has fallen short

وَضَاقَ وُسْعِىْ عَنْ رَدِّهَا اِلَيْهِ

WA ZAAQA WUS-E’E A’N RADDEHAA ELAYHE

and my capacity has been too narrow to make restitution to him

وَالتَّحَلُّلِ مِنْهُ

WAT-TAHALLOLE MINHO

or to annul my obligation to him,

فَاَسْئَلُكَ يَا مَنْ يَمْلِكُ الْحَاجَاتِ

FA-AS-ALOKA YAA MAN YAMLEKUL HAAJAATE

I ask You, O He who owns all objects of need,

وَهِىَ مُسْتَجِيْبَةٌ لِمَشِيَّتِهٖ

WA HEYA MUSTAJEEBATUN LE-MASHIYYATEHI

which are granted by His will

وَمُسْرِعَةٌ اِلٰى اِرَادَتِهٖ

WA MUSREA’TUN ELAA ERAADATEHI

and hasten to His desire

اَنْ تُصَلِّىَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

AN TO-SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN

that You blesst Muhammad and the Household or Muhammad,

وَاَنْ تُرْضِيَهٗ عَنِّىْ بِمَا شِئْتَ

WA AN TURZEYAHU A’NNEE BEMAA SHEA-TA

and make [the one I have wronged] satisfied with me in the manner that You will,

وَتَهَبَ لِىْ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ رَحْمَةً

WA TAHABA LEE MIN I’NDEKA RAHMATAN

and gift me mercy from You,

اِنَّهٗ لَا تَنْقُصُكَ الْمَغْفِرَةُ

INNAHU LAA TANQOSOKAL MAGHFERATO

because, indeed, forgiveness decreases You not

وَلَا تَضُرُّكَ الْمَوْهِبَةُ

WA LAA TAZURROKAL MAWHEBATO

and giving injures You not,

يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

YAA AR-HAMAR-RAAHEMEEN

O Most Merciful of the merciful!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَوْلِنِىْ فِىْ كُلِّ يَوْمِ اثْنَيْنِ

ALLAAHUMMA AWLENEE FEE KULLE YAWMIS NAYNE

O Allah, give me on every Monday

نِعْمَتَيْنِ مِنْكَ ثِنْتَيْنِ

NE’MATAYNE MINKA SIN-TAYNE

two favours from You:

سَعَادَةً فِىْ اَوَّلِهٖ بِطَاعَتِكَ

SA-A’ADATAN FEE AWWALEHI BE-TAA-A’TEKA

the felicity to obey You at its beginning

وَنِعْمَةً فِىْ آخِرِهٖ بِمَغْفِرَتِكَ

WA NE’MATAN FEE AAKHEREHI BE-MAGHFERATEKA

and the favour of Your forgiveness at its end!

يَا مَنْ هُوَا لْاِلٓهُ

YAA MAN HOWAL ELAAHO

O He Who is Allah

وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ سِوَاهُ.

WA LAA YAGHFERUZ ZONOOBA SEWAAHO.

and none other than whom grants forgiveness for sins!
