Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM.
In the Name of Allah, the All-compassionate, the All-merciful.
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ لَیْسَ لِقَضَآئِہٖ دَافِعٌ
ALHAMDO LILLAAHIL LAZEE LAYSA LEQAZAAA-EHI DAAFE-U’N
Praise be to Allah Whose determination cannot be repelled by anything,
وَلَاْ لِعَطَآئِہٖ مَانِعٌ
WA LAA LE-A’TAA-EHI MANE-U’N
Whose gifts cannot be stopped by anything,
وَلَاْ كَصُنْعِہٖ صُنْعُ صَانِعٍ
WA LAA KA-SUN-E’HI SUN-O’ SAANE-I’N
and Whose making cannot be resembled by the making of anyone.
وَهُوَ الْجَوَادُ الْوَاسِعُ
WA HOWAL JAWAADUL WAA-SE-O’
He is the All-magnanimous, the All-liberal.
فَطَرَ اَجْنَاسَ الْبَدَائِعِ
FATARA AJNAASAL BADAA-E-E’
He originated the genus of the wonderfully created things
وَاَتْقَنَ بِحِكْمَتِهِ الصَّنَائِعَ
WA ATQANA BEHIKMATEHIS SANAA-E-A’
and He perfected the made things by His wisdom.
لَاْ تَخْفٰی عَلَیْهِ الطَّلَائِعُ
LAA TAKHFAA A’LAYHIT TALAA-E-O’
All growing things cannot be hidden from Him
وَلَاْ تَضِیْعُ عِنْدَهُ الْوَدَآئِعُ
WA LAA TAZEE-O’ I’NDAHUL WADAA-E-O’
and all things deposited with Him shall never be wasted.
جَازِیْ كُلِّ صَانِعٍ وَرَآئِشُ كُلِّ قَانِعٍ
JAAZEE KULLE SAANE-I’N WA RA-AAA-ESHO KULLE QAANE-I’N
He is the Repayer on every deed, the Enricher of every satisfied one,
وَرَاحِمُ كُلِّ ضَارِعٍ وَمُنْزِلُ الْمَنَافِعِ
WA RAAHEMO KULLE ZAA-RE-I’N WA MUNZELUL MANAA-FE-E’
the Merciful toward every suppliant, and the Revealer of the benefits
وَالْكِتَابِ الْجَامِعِ بِالنُّوْرِ السَّاطِعِ
WAL KETAABIL JAAME-E’ BIN-NOORIS SAATE-E’
and the All-comprehensive Book with the glaring light.
وَهُوَ لِلدَّعَوَاتِ سَامِعٌ
WA HOWA LID-DA-A’WAATE SAME-U’N
He is also the Hearer of prayers,
وَلِلْكُرُبَاتِ دَافِعٌ وَلِلدَّرَجَاتِ رَافِعٌ
WA LIL-KOROBAATE DAA-FE-U’N WA LID-DARAJAATE RAAFE-U’N
the Warder-off of anguishes, the Raiser of ranks,
وَلِلْجَبَابِرَۃِ قَامِعٌ فَلَاْ اِلٰهَ غَیْرُہٗ
WA LILJABAABERATE QAAME-U’N FALAA ELAAHA GHAYROHU
and the Suppressor of the tyrants. There is no god other than Him
وَلَاْ شَیْءَ یَعْدِلُہٗ
WA LAA SHAYA YA’DELOHU
and there is nothing equivalent to Him
وَلَیْسَ كَمِثْلِہٖ شَیْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِیْعُ الْبَصِیْرُ
WA LAYSA KAMISLEHI SHAYUN WA HOWAS SAMEE-U’L BASEERUL
and nothing like a likeness of Him, and He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing,
اللَّطِیْفُ الْخَبِیْرُ وَهُوَ عَلٰی كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرٌ
LATEEFUL KHABEERO WA HOWA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEERUN
the All-gentle, the All-aware, and He has power over all things.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَرْغَبُ اِلَیْكَ وَاَشْهَدُ بِالرُّبُوْبِیَّۃِ لَكَ
ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ARGHABO ELAYKA WA ASH-HADO BIR-ROBOOBIYYATE LAKA
O Allah, I willingly desire for You and I testify to the Lordship of You,
مُقِرًّا بِاَنَّكَ رَبِّیْ
MOQIRRAN BE-ANNAKA RABBEE
confessing that You are verily my Lord
وَاَنَّ اِلَیْكَ مَرَدِّیْ اِبْتَدَاتَنِیْ بِنِعْمَتِكَ
WA ANNA ELAYKA MARADDEE IBTADAA-TANEE BE-NE’MATEKA
and to You shall be my return. You had begun bestowing on me
قَبْلَ اَنَ اَكُوْنَ شَیْئًا مَذْكُوْرًا
QABLA AN AKOONA SHAY-AN MAZKOORAN
before I was anything worth mentioning,
وَخَلَقْتَنِیْ مِنَ تُّرَابِ ثُمَّ اَسْكَنْتَنِیْ الْاَصْلَابَ
WA KHALAQTANEE MENAT TORAABE SUMMA ASKANTANIL ASLAABA
and You created me from dust. You then put me up in the loins,
اٰمِنًا لِرَیْبَ الْمَنُوْنَ وَاخْتِلَافِ الدُّهُوْرِ وَالسِّنِیْنَ
AAMENAN LERAYBIL MANOONE WAKHTELAAFID DOHOORE WAS SENEENA
(making me) saved from vicissitudes of time, and change of ages and years.
فَلَمْ اَزَلْ ظَاعِنًا مِنْ صُلْبٍ اِلٰی رَحْمٍ
FALAM AZAL ZAA-E’NAN MIN SULBIN ELAA RAHEMIN
I was moving from a loin to a womb
فِی تَقَادُمٍ مِّنَ الْاَیَّامِ الْمَاضِیَۃِ
FEE TAQAADOMIM MENAL AYYAAMIL MAAZEYATE
throughout the passage of the past days
وَالْقُرُوْنِ الْخَالِیَۃِ
WAL QOROONIL KHAALEYATE
and the ancient ages;
لَمْ تُخْرِجْنِیْ لِرَاْفَتِكَ بِیْ
LAM TUKHRIJNEE LERAAFATEKA BEE
as You have not taken me out (to this world) — on account of Your sympathy to me,
وَلُطْفِكَ لِیْ وَاِحْسَانِكَ اِلَیَّ
WA LUTFEKA LEE WA EHSAANEKA ELAYYA
and Your kindness to me, and Your compassion to me —
فِیْ دَوْلَۃِ اَئِمَّۃِ الْكُفْرِ
FEE DAWLATE AIMMATIL KUFRIL
in the government of the heads of unbelief
الَّذِیْنَ نَقَضُوْا عَهْدَكَ وَكَذَّبُوْا رُسُلَكَ
LAZEENA NAQAZOO A’HDAKA WA KAZZABOO ROSOLAKA
who breached their covenant with You and denied Your messengers.
لٰكِنَّكَ اَخْرَجْتَنِیْ لِلَّذِیْ سَبَقَ لِیْ مِنَ الْهُدٰی
LAAKINNAKA AKHRAJTANIL LILLAZEE SABAQA LEE MENAL HODAL
However, You took me out on account of the guidance that You have already known about me
الَّذِیْ لَہٗ یَسَّرْتَنِیْ وَفِیْهِ اَنْشَاْتَنِیْ
LAZEE LAHU YASSARTANEE WA FEEHE ANSHAATANEE
and You have made easy the way to it and You have brought me up in it.
وَمِنْ قَبْلِ ذٰلِكَ رَؤُفْتَ بِیْ بِجَمِیْلِ صُنْعِكَ
WA MIN QABLE RA-UFTA BEE BEJAMEELE SUN-E’KA
Even before that, You had compassion on me, through Your excellent conferral
وَسَوَابِغِ نِعَمِكَ
WA SAWAABEGHE NE-A’MEKA
and Your affluent bestowals.
فَابْتَدَعْتَ خَلْقِیْ مِنْ مَّنِیٍّ یُّمْنٰی
FABTADA’TA KHALQEE MIN MANIYYIN-Y YUMNAA
So, You fashioned my creation from semen that gushed forth
وَاَسْكَنْتَنِیْ فِیْ ظُلُمَاتٍ ثَلَاثٍ
WA ASKANTANEE FEE ZOLOMAATIN SALAASIN
and put me up in triple darkness
بَیْنَ لَحْمٍ وَّدَمٍ وَّجِلْدٍ لَمْ تُشْهِدْنِیْ خَلْقِیْ
BAYNA LAHMIN WA DAMINW WA JILDIN LAM TUSH-HIDNEE KHALQEE
among flesh, blood, and skin. You have not made me witness my creation,
وَلَمْ تَجْعَلْ اِلَیَّ شَیْئًا مِّنْ اَمْرِیْ
WA LAM TAJ-A’L ELAYYA SHAY-AM MIN AMREE
and You have not referred any part of my creation to me.
ثُمَّ اَخْرَجْتَنِیْ لِلَّذِیْ سَبَقَ لِیْ مِنَ الْهُدٰی
SUMMA AKHRAJTANEE LIL-LAZEE SABAQA LEE MENAL HODAA
You then took me out on account of the guidance that You have already known about me
اِلَی الدُّنْیَا تَآمًّا سَوِیًّا
ELAD DUNYAA TAAAM-MAN SAWIYYAN
to the world, perfect and in sound health.
وَحَفِظْتَنِیْ فِی الْمَهْدِ طِفْلًا صَبِیًّا
WA HAFIZTANEE FIL MAHDE TIFLAN SABIYYAN
You have safeguarded me in the cradle
وَرَزَقْتَنِیْ مِنَ الْغِذَآءِ لَبَنًا مَرِیًّا
WA RAZAQTANEE MENAL GHEZAAA-E LABANAN MARIYYAN
as small child. You have provided me with wholesome milk as food.
وَعَطَفْتَ عَلَیَّ قُلُوْبَ الْحَوَاضِنِ
WA A’TAFTA A’LAYYA QOLOOBAL HAWAAZENE
You have made the hearts of the nursemaids tender.
وَكَفَّلْتَنِيْ الْاُمَّهَاتِ الرَّوَاحِمَ
WA KAFFALTANIL UMMAHAATIR RAWAAHEMA
You have given me into the charge of merciful mothers.
وَكَلَأْتَنِیْ مِنْ طَوَارِقِ الْجَآنِّ
WA KALAATANEE MIN TAWAAREQIL JAAAN-NE
You have saved me from the visits of the Jinn.
وَسَلَّمْتَنِیْ مِنَ الزِّیَادَۃِ وَالنُّقْصَانِ
WA SALLAMTANEE MENAZ ZEYAADATE WAN NUQSAANE
And You have delivered me from increase and decrease.
فَتَعَالَیْتَ یَا رَحِیْمُ یَا رَحْمٰنُ
FA-TA-A’ALAYTA YAA RAHEEMO YAA RAHMAANO
So, Exalted be You, O All-merciful,
حَتّٰی اِذَا اسْتَهْلَلْتُ نَاطِقًا بِالْكَلَامِ
HATTAA EZAS TAHLALTO NAATEQAN BIL-KALAAME
O All-beneficent. When I commenced (my life) by pronouncing words,
اَتْمَمْتَ عَلَیَّ سَوَابِغَ الْاِنْعَامِ
ATMAMTA A’LAYYA SAWAABEGHAL IN-A’AME
You perfected for me the affluent bestowals,
وَرَبَّیْتَنِیْ زَایِدًا فِیْ كُلِّ عَامٍ
WA RABBAYTANEE ZAAYEDAN FEE KULLE A’AMIN
and brought me up with an increase every year.
حَتّٰی اِذَا اكْتَمَلَتْ فِطْرَتِیْ
HATTAA EZAK TAMALAT FITRATEE
When my creation was accomplished,
وَاعْتَدَلَتْ مِرَّتِیْ اَوْجَبْتَ عَلَیَّ حُجَّتَكَ
WA’ TADALAT MIRRATEE AWJABTA A’LAYYA HUJJATAKA
and my power became straight, You put me under the obligation of Your Claim,
بِاَنْ اَلْهَمْتَنِیْ مَعْرِفَتَكَ
BE-AN ALHAMTANEE MA’REFATAKA
which is that You inspired me with recognition of You
وَرَوَّعْتَنِیْ بِعَجَآئِبِ حِكْمَتِكَ
WA RAWWA’TANEE BE-A’JAAYEBE HIKMATEKA
and alarmed me by the wonders of Your wisdom,
وَاَیْقَظْتَنِیْ لِمَا ذَرَأْتَ فِیْ سَمَآئِكَ وَاَرْضِكَ
WA AYQAZTANEE LEMAA ZARAATA FEE SAMAAA-EKA WA ARZEKA
and You aroused in me that which You created in Your heavens and lands,
مِنْۢ بَدَآئِعِ خَلْقِكَ
MIM BADAA-E-E’ KHALQEKA
which is the excellent creation of You.
وَنَبَّهْتَنِیْ لِشُكْرِكَ وَذِكْرِكَ
WA NABBAHTANEE LESHUKREKA WA ZIKREKA
You attracted my attentions to thank and mention You.
وَاَوْجَبْتَ عَلَیَّ طَاعَتَكَ وَعِبَادَتَكَ
WA AWJABTA A’LAYYA TAA-A’TAKA WA E’BAADATAKA
You made obligatory on me to obey and worship You.
وَفَهَمْتَنِیْ مَا جَآئَتْ بِہٖ رُسُلُكَ
WA FAHHAMTANEE MAA JAA-AT BEHI ROSOLOKA
You made me understand that with which Your Apostles came.
وَیَسَّرْتَ لِیْ تَقَبُّلَ مَرْضَاتِكَ
WA YASSARTA LEE TAQABBOLA MARZAATEKA
You made easy for me to find agreeable Your pleasure.
وَمَنَنْتَ عَلَیَّ فِیْ جَمِیْعِ ذٰلِكَ
WA MANANTA A’LAYYA FEE JAMEE-E’ ZAALEKA
You bestowed upon me with the favor of all that,
بِعَوْنِكَ وَلُطْفِكَ ثُمَّ اِذْ خَلَقْتَنِیْ مِنْ خَیْرِ الثَّرٰی
BE-A’WNEKA WA LUTFEKA SUMMA IZ KHALAQTANEE MIN KHAYRIS SARAA
out of Your aid and Your gentleness. As You created me from the best of soil,
لَمْ تَرْضَ لِیْ یَا اِلٰهِیْ نِعْمَۃً دُوْنَ اُخْرٰی
LAM TARZA LEE YAA ELAAHI NE’MATAN DOONA UKHRAA
You, my God, have not wanted for me to have a certain favor (and to be deprived of another)
وَرَزَقْتَنِیْ مِنْ اَنْوَاعِ الْمَعَاشِ
WA RAZAQTANEE MIN ANWAA-I’L MA-A’ASHE
and You therefore provided me with the various kinds of living
وَصُنُوْفِ الرِّیَاشِ بِمَنِّكَ الْعَظِیْمِ الْاَعْظَمِ عَلَیَّ
WA SONOOFIR REYAASHE BEMANNEKAL A’ZEEMIL A-A’ZAME A’LAYYA
and types of wealth, out of Your great and grand conferral upon me,
وَاِحْسَانِكَ الْقَدِیْمِ اِلَیَّ حَتّٰی اِذَا اَتْمَمْتَ عَلَیَّ جَمِیْعَ النِّعَمِ
WA EHSAANEKAL QADEEME ELAYYA HATTAA EZAA ATMAMTA A’LAYYA JAMEE-A’N NE-A’ME
and Your eternal kindness to me. As You perfected for me all the graces
وَصَرَفْتَ عَنِّیْ كُلَّ النِّقَمِ لَمْ یَمْنَعْكَ جَهْلِیْ وَجُرْاَتِیْ عَلَیْكَ
WA SARAFTA A’NNEE KULLAN NEQAME LAM YAMNA’KA JAHLEE WA JUR-ATEE A’LAYKA
and warded off all misfortunes, my ignorance of You and challenge have not stopped You
اَنْ دَلَلْتَنِیْ اِلٰی مَا یُقَرِّبُنِیْ اِلَیْكَ
AN DALALTANEE ELAA MAA YOQARREBONEE ELAYKA
from showing me that which takes me near to You,
وَوَفَّقْتَنِیْ لِمَا یُزْلِفُنِیْ لَدَیْكَ
WA WAFFAQTANEE LEMAA YUZLEFONEE LADAYKA
and from leading me to that which grants me proximity to You.
فَاِنْ دَعَوْتُكَ اَجَبْتَنِیْ وَاِنْ سَئَلْتُكَ اَعْطَیْتَنِیْ
FA-IN DA-A’WTOKA AJABTANEE WA IN SA-ALTOKA A-A’TAYTANEE
So, if I pray You, You will respond to me; and if I beg You, You will give me;
وَاِنْ اَطَعْتُكَ شَكَرْتَنِیْ وَاِنْ شَكَرْتُكَ زِدْتَنِیْ
WA IN ATA’TOKA SHAKARTANEE WA IN SHAKARTOKA ZID-TANEE
and if I obey You, You will thank me; and if I thank You, You will give me more.
كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ اِكْمَالًا لِاَنْعُمِكَ عَلَیَّ
KULLO ZAALEKA IKMAALAN LE-AN-O’MEKA A’LAYYA
All that is completion of Your favors for me,
وَاِحْسَانِكَ اِلَیَّ فَسُبْحَانَكَ سُبْحَانَكَ
WA EHSAANEKA ELAYYA FA-SUBHAANAKA SUBHAANAKA
and Your kindness to me. So, all glory be to You; all glory be to You.
مِنْۢ مُبْدِئٍ مُعِیْدٍ
MIM MUBDE-IN MO-E’EDIN
You are verily Originator and Reproducer (of the creation) and
حَمِیْدٍ مَّجِیْدٍ
HAMEEDIM MAJEEDIN
worthy of all praise and full of all glory.
تَقَدَّسَتْ اَسْمَآؤُكَ وَعَظُمَتْ اٰلَآؤُكَ
TAQADDASAT ASMAAA-OKA WA A’ZOMAT AAALAA-OKA
Holy be Your Names as Your bounties are so immeasurable.
فَاَیُّ نِعَمِكَ یَا اِلٰهِیْ اُحْصِیْ عَدَدًا وَّذِكْرًا
FA-AYYO NE-A’MEKA YAA ELAAHEE OHSEE A’DADANW WA ZIKRAN
Which of Your favors, O my God, can I count in numbers and examples?
اَمْ اَیُّ عَطَایَاكَ اَقُوْمُ بِهَا شُكْرًا
AM AYYO A’TAAYAAKA AQOOMO BEHAA SHUKRAN
Or which of Your gifts can I thank properly?
وَهِیَ یَا رَبِّ اَكْثَرُ مِنْ اَنْ یُّحْصِیَهَا الْعَآدُّوْنَ
WA HEYA YAA RABBE AKSARO MIN AN-Y YOHSEYAHAL A’AAD-DOONA
They are, O my Lord, too numerous to be counted by counters
اَوْیَبْلُغَ عِلْمًا بِهَا الْحَافِظُوْنَ
AW YABLOGHA I’LMAN BEHAL HAAFEZOONA
or to be realized by memorizers.
ثُمَّ مَا صَرَفْتَ وَدَرَأْتَ عَنِّیْ
SUMMA MAA SARAFTA WA DARAATA A’NNEE
Moreover, that which You have warded off and repelled,
اَللّٰهُمَّ مِنَ الضُّرِّ وَالضَّرَّآءِ
ALLAAHUMMA MENAZ ZURRE WAZ ZARRAA-E
O Allah, from (the various kinds of) harm and mischief
اَكْثَرَ مِمَّا ظَهَرَ لِیْ مِنَ الْعَافِیَۃِ وَالسَّرَّآءِ
AKSARA MIMMAA ZAHARA LEE MENAL A’AFEYATE WAS SARRAAA-E
is more than that which came to me from wellbeing and joy.
وَاَنَا اَشْهَدُ یَا اِلٰهِیْ بِحَقِیْقَۃِ اِیْمَانِیْ
WA ANAA ASH-HADO YAA ELAAHEE BEHAQEEQATE EEMAANEE
And I bear witness, O my God, with my true belief,
وَعَقْدِ عَزَمَاتِ یَقِیْنِیْ
WA A’QDE A’ZAMAATE YAQEENEE
and the fortitude of the determinations of my conviction
وَخَالِصِ صَرِیْحِ تَوْحِیْدِیْ
WA KHAALESE SAREEHE TAWHEEDEE
and the purity of my open belief in Your Oneness
وَبَاطِنِ مَكْنُوْنِ ضَمِیْرِیْ
WA BAATENE MAKNOONE ZAMEEREE
and the essence of the secret of my conscience,
وَعَلَآئِقِ مَجَارِیْ نُوْرِ بَصَرِیْ
WA A’LAA-EQE MAJAAREE NOORE BASAREE
and the ties of the canals of the light of my sight,
وَاَسَارِیْرِ صَفْحَۃِ جَبِیْنِیْ
WA ASAA-REERE SAFHATE JABEENEE
and the lines of my forehead
وَخُرْقِ مَسَارِبِ نَفْسِیْ
WA KHURQE MASAAREBE NAFSEE
and the hallows of the courses of my breath,
وَخَذَارِیْفِ مَارِنِ عِرْنِیْنِیْ
WA KHAZAAREEFE MAARENE I’RNEENEE
and the (nasal) cavities of my nose,
وَمَسَارِبِ سِمَاخِ سَمْعِیْ
WA MASAAREBE SEMAA-KHE SAM-E’E
and the courses of the meatus of my hearing,
وَمَا ضُمَّتْ وَاَطْبَقَتْ عَلَیْهِ شَفَتَایَ
WA MAA ZUMMAT WA ATBAQAT A’LAYHE SHAFATAAYA
and whatever my two lips hide and cover up,
وَحَرَكَاتِ لَفْظِ لِسَانِیْ
WA HARAKAATE LAFZE LESAANEE
and the motions of the vocalization of my tongue,
وَمَغْرَزِ حَنَكِ فَمِیْ وَفَكِّیْ
WA MAGHRAZE HANAKE FAMEE WA FAKKEE
and the socket of the palate of my mouth and jaw,
وَمَنَابِتِ اَضْرَاسِیْ
WA MANAABETE AZRAASEE
and the matrices of my dents,
وَمَسَاغِ مَطْعَمِیْ وَمَشْرَبِی
WA MASAAGHE MAT-A’MEE WA MASHRABEE
and the tasting of my food and my drink,
وَحِمَالَۃِ اُمِّ رَاسِیْ
WA HEMAALATE UMME RAASEE
and the carrier of my skill,
وَبُلُوْعِ فَارِغِ حَبَائِلِ عُنُقِیْ
WA BOLOOGHE FAAREGHE HABAA-ELE O’NOQEE
and the tube of the tissues of my neck
وَمَا اشْتَمَلَ عَلَیْهِ تَامُوْرُ صَدْرِیْ
WA MASH TAMALA A’LAYHE TAAMOORO SADREE
and what is included by the cloak of my chest,
وَحَمَایِلِ حَبْلِ وَتِیْنِیْ وَنِیَاطِ حِجَابِ قَلْبِیْ
WA HAMAA-YELE HABLE WATEENEE WA NEYAATE HEJAABE QALBEE
and the carriers of the cord of my aorta, and the cords of the pericardium of my heart,
وَاَفْلَاذِ حَوَاشِیْ كَبِدِیْ
WA AFLAAZE HAWAASHEE KABEDEE
and the pieces of the retinues of my liver,
وَمَا حَوَتْهُ شَرَاسِیْفُ اَضْلَاعِیْ
WA MAA HAWAT-HO SHARAASEEFO AZLAAE’E
and that which is included by the cartilages of my ribs,
وَحِقَاقُ مَفَاصِلِیْ وَقَبْضُ عَوَامِلِیْ
WA HEQAAQO MAFAASELEE WA QABZO AWAAMELEE
and the cavities of my joints, and the interactings of my organisms,
وَاَطْرَافُ اَنَامِلِیْ وَلَحْمِیْ وَدَمِیْ
WA ATRAAFO ANAAMELEE WA LAHMEE WA DAMEE
and the extremes of my fingertips, and my flesh, and my blood,
وَشَعْرِیْ وَبَشَرِیْ وَعَصَبِیْ وَقَصَبِیْ
WA SHA’REE WA BASHAREE WA A’SABEE WA QASABEE
and my hair, and my skin, and my nerve, and my sinews,
وَعِظَامِیْ وَمُخِّیْ وَعُرُوْقِیْ وَجَمِیْعِ جِوَارِحِیْ
WA E’ZAAMEE WA MUKHKHI WA O’ROOQEE WA JAMEE-E’ JAWAAREHEE
and my bones, and my brain, and my veins, and all of my organs,
وَمَا انْتَسَجَ عَلٰی ذٰلِكَ اَیَّامَ رِضَاعِیْ
WA MAN TASAJA A’LAA ZAALEKA AYYAAMA REZAA-E’E
and that which was pieced together during the days of my suckling,
وَمَا اَقَلَّتِ الْاَرْضُ مِنِّیْ
WA MAA AQALLATIL ARZO MINNEE
and whatever of my body that the ground carries,
وَنَوْمِیْ وَیَقْظَتِیْ وَسُكُوْنِیْ
WA NAWMEE WA YAQAZATEE WA SOKOONEE
and my sleeping, and my wakefulness, and my motionlessness,
وَحَرَكَاتِ رُكُوْعِیْ وَسُجُوْدِیْ
WA HARAKAATE ROKOO-E’E WA SOJOODEE
and the movements of my bowing and prostration;
اَنْ لَوْ حَاوَلْتُ وَاجْتَهَدْتُ مَدَی الْاَعْصَارِ
AN LAW HAAWALTO WAJ TAHADTO MADAL A-A’SAARE
(by all that I bear witness) that if I try my best and strive throughout all ages
وَالْاَحْقَابِ لَوْ عُمِّرْتُهَا
WAL AHQAABE LAW U’MMIRTOHAA
and all times, if I live them,
اَنْ اُؤَدِّیَ شُكْرَ وَاحِدَۃٍ مِنْ اَنْعُمِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ذٰلِكَ
AN O-ADDEYA SHUKRA WAAHEDATIN MIN AN-O’MEKA MAS TATA’TO ZAALEKA
to thank properly only one of Your favors, I will not be able to do that,
اِلَّا بِمَنِّكَ الْمُوْجِبِ عَلَیَّ بِہٖ شُكْرَكَ
ILLAA BEMANNEKAL MOOJEBE A’LAYYA BEHI SHUKRAKA
except through a favor of You, which also requires me to thank You for it,
اَبَدًا جَدِیْدًا وَثَنَآءً طَارِفًا عَتِیْدًا
ABADAN JADEEDAN WA SANAAA-AN TAAREFAN A’TEEDAN
once again with new thanking and with praise that is newly acquired and newly prepared.
اَجَلْ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُ اَنَا وَالْعَآدُّوْنَ مِنْ اَنَامِكَ
AJAL WA LAW HARASTO ANAA WAL A’AAD-DOONA MIN ANAAMEKA
True is this! And if I try hard, as well as the counters from Your creatures,
اَنْ نُحْصِیَ مَدٰی اِنْعَامِكَ سَالِفِہٖ وَاٰنِفِہٖ
AN NOHSEYA MADAA IN-A’AMEKA SAALEFEHI WA AANEFEHI
to count the scope of Your favoring, both the past and the present,
مَا حَصَرْنَاهُ عَدَدًا وَلَاْ اَحْصَیْنَاهُ اَمَدًا
MAA HASARNAAHO A’DADAN WA LAA AHSAYNAAHO AMADAN
we shall never be able to calculate it in number, or count it in time.
هَیْهَاتَ اَنّٰی ذٰلِكَ
HAY-HAATA ANNAA ZAALEKA
Too far is this! How can it be!
وَاَنْتَ الْمُخْبِرُ فِیْ كِتَابِكَ النَّاطِقِ
WA ANTAL MUKHBERO FEE KETAABEKAN NAATEQE
While it is You Who have informed in Your rational Book
وَالنَّبَاِ الصَّادِقِ
WAN NABA-IS SAADEQE
and true news:
وَاِنْ تَعُدُّوْا نِعْمَۃَ اﷲِ لَاْ تُحْصُوْهَا
WA IN TA-U’DDOO NE’MATAL LAAHE LAA TOHSOOHAA
“And if you count Allah's favors, you will not be able to number them.”
صَدَقَ كِتَابُكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ وَاِنْۢبَآؤُكَ
SADAQA KETAABOKA ALLAAHUMMA WA IMBAAA-OKA
True is Your Book, O Allah, and Your informing.
وَبَلَّغَتْ اَنْبِیَآؤُكَ وَرُسُلُكَ
WA BALLAGHAT AMBEYAAA-OKA WA ROSOLOKA
Your Prophets and Messengers have conveyed
مَا اَنْزَلْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ وَحْیِكَ
MAA ANZALTA A’LAYHIM MIN WAHYEKA
what You revealed to them, from Your Revelation,
وَشَرَعْتَ لَهُمْ وَبِهِمْ مِنْ دِیْنِكَ
WA SHARA’TA LAHUM WA BEHIM MIN DEENEKA
and what You have made plain for them and through them Your religion.
غَیْرَ اَنِّیْ یَا اِلٰهِیْ
GHAYRA ANNEE YAA ELAAHEE
Nevertheless, O my God,
اَشْهَدُ بِجُهْدِیْ وَجِدِّیْ
ASH-HADO BEJOHDEE WA JIDDEE
I bear witness by my ultimate possibility and my diligence
وَمَبْلَغِ طَاعَتِیْ وَوُسْعِیْ وَاَقُوْلُ مُؤْمِنًا مُوْقِیًا
WA MABLAGHE TAA-A’TEE WA WUS-E’E WA AQOOLO MOA-MENAN MOOQENAN
and the scope of my vigor and my capacity, and I say with full faith and conviction:
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ لَمْ یَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا فَیَكُوْنَ مَوْرُوْثًا
ALHAMDO LILLAAHIL LAZEE LAM YATTAKHIZ WALADAN FAYAKOONO MAWROOSAN
All praise be to Allah Who has not taken to Himself a son to be inherited,
وَلَمْ یَكُنْ لَّہٗ شَرِیْكٌ فِیْ مُلْكِہٖ
WA LAM YAKUL LAHU SHAREEKUN FEE MULKEHI
and Who does not have a partner in His kingdom,
فَیُضَآدُّہٗ فِیْمَا ابْتَدَعَ
FAYOZAADDOHU FEEMAB TADA-A’
to oppose Him in what He fashions,
وَلَا وَلِیٌّ مِّنَ الذُّلِّ
WA LAA WALIYYUM MENAZ ZULLE
and Who does not have a helper to save Him from disgrace,
فَیُرْفِدَہٗ فِیْمَا صَنَعَ فَسُبْحَانَہٗ سُبْحَانَہٗ
FAYURFEDAHU FEEMAA SANA-A’ FASUBHAANAHU SUBHAANAHU
to help Him in what He makes. So, glory be to Him, glory be to Him.
لَوْ كَانَ فِیْهِمَا اٰلِهَۃٌ اِلَّا اﷲُ
LAW KAANA FEEHEMAA AALEHATUN ILLAL LAAHO
If there had been in them any gods except Allah, they would both have
لَفَسَدَتَا وَتَفَطَّرَتَا
LAFASADATAA WA TAFATTARATAA
certainly been in a state of disorder and destruction.
سُبْحَانَ اﷲِ الْوَاحِدِ الْاَحَدِ الصَّمَدِ
SUBHAANAL LAAHIL WAAHEDIL AHADIS SAMADIL
All glory be to Allah, the One, the Only One, the Besought of all,
الَّذِیْ لَمْ یَلِدْ وَلَمْ یُوْلَدْ وَلَمْ یَكُنْ لَّہٗ كُفُوًا اَحَدٌ
LAZEE LAM YALID WA LAM YOOLAD WA LAM YAKUL LAHU KOFOWAN AHADUN
Who begets not nor is He begotten, and there is none like Him.
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ حَمْدًا یُعَادِلُ حَمْدَ مَلَآئِكَتِهِ الْمُقَرَّبِیْنَ
ALHAMDO LILLAAHE HAMDAN YO-A’ADELO HAMDA MALAAA-EKATEHIL MOQARRABEENA
All praise be to Allah — praise that is equal to the praise of His Favorite Angels,
وَاَنْۢبِیَآئِهِ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ وَصَلَّی اﷲُ عَلٰی خِیَرَتِہٖ
WA AMBEYAAA-EHIL MURSALEENA WA SALLAL LAAHO A’LAA KHEYARATEHI
and His missioned Prophets. May Allah send blessings to His Select,
مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَّمِ النَّبِیِّیْنَ
MOHAMMADIN KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA
Muhammad, the Seal of Prophets,
وَاٰلِهِ الطَّیِّبِیْنَ الطَّاهِرِیْنَ
WA AALEHIT TAYYEBEENAT TAAHEREENAL
and upon his Household, the pure, immaculate,
الْمُخْلَصِیْنَ وَسَلَّمَ
MUKHLASEENA WA SALLAM.
and well-chosen, and may He send benedictions upon them.
Imam (a.s.) then besought Almighty Allah so earnestly that his eyes shed tears. He then said:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِیْ اَخْشَاكَ كَاَنِّیْ اَرَاكَ
ALLAAHUMMAJ A’LNEE AKHSAAKA KA-ANNEE ARAAKA
O Allah, (please) make me fear You as if I can see You.
وَاَسْعِدْنِیْ بِتَقْوٰیكَ وَلَاْ تُشْقِنِیْ بِمَعْصِیَتِكَ
WA AS-I’DNEE BETAQWAAKA WA LAA TUSHQENEE BEMA’SEYATEKA
Make happy by fearing You. Do not make me unhappy by disobeying You.
وَخِرْ لِیْ فِیْ قَضَآئِكَ وَبَارِكْ لِیْ فِیْ قَدَرِكَ
WA KHIR LEE FEE QAZAAA-EKA WA BAARIK LEE FEE QADAREKA
Choose for me through Your decree. Bless me through Your determination,
حَتّٰی لَاْ اُحِبَّ تَعْجِیْلَ مَا اَخَّرْتَ
HATTAA LAA OHIBBA TA’JEELA MAA AKHKHARTA
so that I will not long for hastening that which You have delayed
وَلَاْ تَاْخِیْرَ مَا عَجَّلْتَ
WA LAA TAAKHEERA MAA A’JJALTA
or delaying that which You would hasten.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ غِنَایَ فِیْ نَفْسِیْ
ALLAAHUMMAJ A’L GHENAAYA FEE NAFSEE
O Allah, (please) make my richness in my conscience,
وَالْیَقِیْنَ فِیْ قَلْبِیْ وَالْاِخْلَاصَ فِیْ عَمْلِیْ
WAL YAQEENA FEE QALBEE WAL IKHLAASA FEE A’MALEE
conviction in my heart, sincerity in my deeds,
وَالنُّوْرَ فِی بَصَرِیْ وَالْبَصِیْرَۃَ فِیْ دِیْنِیْ
WAN NOORA FEE BASAREE WAL-BASEERATA FEE DEENEE
light in my sight, and insight in my religion.
وَمَتِّعْنِیْ بِجَوَارِحِیْ
WA MATTE’NEE BEJAWAAREHEE
Make me find enjoyment in my organs.
وَاجْعَلْ سَمْعِیْ وَبَصَرِیَ الْوَارِثَیْنِ مِنِّیْ
WAJ A’L SAM-E’E WA BASAREYAL WAARESAINE MINNEE
Make my hearing and my sight sound until I am inherited.
وَانْصُرْنِیْ عَلٰی مَنْ ظَلَمَنِیْ
WAN SURNEE A’LAA MAN ZALAMANEE
Grant me victory over him who wrongs me,
وَاَرِنِیْ فِیْهِ ثَأْرِیْ وَمَأْرِبِیْ
WA ARENEE FEEHE SAAREE WA MAA-REBEE
make me witness my avenge and objective in him,
وَاَقِرَّ بِذٰلِكَ عَیْنِیْ
WA AQIRRA BEZAALEKA A’YNEE
and make it the delight of my eye.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اكْشِفْ كُرْبَتِیْ
ALLAAHUMMAK SHIF KURBATEE
O Allah, (please) relieve my agony,
وَاسْتُرْ عَوْرَتِیْ وَاغْفِرْلِیْ خَطِٓیْئَتِیْ
WAS TUR A’WRATEE WAGH FIR LEE KHATEE-ATEE
conceal my flaws, forgive my sin,
وَاخْسَاْ شَیْطَانِیْ وَفُكَ رِهَانِیْ
WAKH SAA SHAYTAANEE WA FUKKA REHAANEE
drive away my devil from me, redeem my mortgage,
وَاجْعَلْ لِیْ یَا اِلٰهِی الدَّرَجَۃَ الْعُلْیَا فِی الْاٰخِرَۃِ وَالْاُوْلٰی
WAJ A’L LEE YAA ELAAHID DARAJATAL U’LYAA FIL AAKHERATE WAL OOLAA
and decide for me, O my God, the supreme rank in the Hereafter and in the former (life).
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِیْ
ALLAAHUMMA LAKAL HAMDO KAMAA KHALAQTANEE
O Allah, all praise be to You for You have created me
فَجَعَلْتَنِیْ سَمِیْعًاۢ بَصِیْرًا
FA-JA-A’LTANEE SAMEE-A’M BASEERAN
and made me hear and see.
وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِیْ
WA LAKAL HAMDO KAMAA KHALAQTANEE
All praise be to You for you have created me
فَجَعَلْتَنِیْ خَلْقًا سَوِیًّا رَحْمَۃً بِیْ
FA-JA-A’LTANEE KHALQAN SAWIYYAN RAHMATAN BEE
and made my creation perfect, on account of Your having mercy on me,
وَقَدْ كُنْتَ عَنْ خَلْقِیْ غَنِیًّا
WA QAD KUNTA A’N KHALQEE GHANIYYAN
and You could dispense with creating me.
رَبِّ بِمَا بَرَأْتَنِیْ فَعَدَّلْتَ فِطْرَتِیْ
RABBE BEMAA BARAATANEE FA-A’DDALTA FITRATEE
O my Lord, as You gave rise to me and perfected my creation;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَنْشَاْتَنِیْ فَاَحْسَنْتَ صُوْرَتِیْ
RABBE BEMAA ANSHAATANEE FA-AHSANTA SOORATEE
O my Lord, as You originated me and did well my form;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَحْسَنْتَ اِلَیَّ وَفِیْ نَفْسِیْ عَافَیْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA AHSANTA ELAYYA WA FEE NAFSEE A’AFAYTANEE
O my Lord, as You conferred favors on me and granted me wellbeing in myself;
رَبِّ بِمَا كَلَاْ تَنِیْ وَوَفَّقْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA KALAATANEE WA WAFFAQTANEE
O my Lord, as You saved me and led me to success;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَنْعَمْتَ عَلَیَّ فَهَدَیْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA AN-A’MTA A’LAYYA FAHADAYTANEE
O my Lord, as You bestowed favors on me and guided me;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَوْلَیْتَنِیْ وَمِنْ كُلِّ خَیْرٍ اَعْطَیْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA AWLAYTANEE WA MIN KULLE KHAYRIN A-A’TAYTANEE
O my Lord, as You presented me and gave me from every good;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَطْعَمْتَنِیْ وَسَقَیْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA A-TA’MTANEE WA SAQAYTANEE
O my Lord, as you fed me and watered me;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَغْنَیْتَنِیْ وَاَقْنَیْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA AGHNAYTANEE WA AQNAYTANEE
O my Lord, as You enriched me and gave me to hold;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَعَنْتَنِیْ وَاَعْزَزْتَنِیْ
RABBE BEMAA A-A’NTANEE WA A-A’ZAZTANEE
O my Lord, as You helped me and braced me;
رَبِّ بِمَا اَلْبَسْتَنِیْ مِنْ سِتْرِكَ الصَّافِیْ
RABBE BEMAA ALBASTANEE MIN SITREKAS SAAFEE
O my Lord, as you clothed me from Your pure cover
وَیَسَّرْتَ لِیْ مِنْ صُنْعِكَ الْكَافِیْ
WA YASSARTA LEE MIN SUN-E’KAL KAAFEE
and made easy for me Your adequate making,
صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMADIN
so, (please) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَاَعِنِّیْ عَلٰی بَوَآئِقِ الدُّهُوْرِ
WA A-I’NNEE A’LAA BAWAA-EQID DOHOORE
help me against calamities of ages
وَصُرُوْفِ اللَّیَالِیْ وَالْاَیَّامِ
WA SOROOFIL LAYAALEE WAL AYYAAME
and changes of nights and days,
وَنَجِّنِیْ مِنْ اَهْوَالِ الدُّنْیَا وَكُرُبَاتِ الْاٰخِرَۃِ
WA NAJJENEE MIN AHWAALID DUNYAA WA KOROBAATIL AAKHERATE
rescue me from the horrors of this world and the anguishes of the Hereafter,
وَاكْفِنِیْ شَرَّ مَا یَعْمَلُ الظَّالِمُوْنَ فِی الْاَرْضِ
WAK FENEE SHARRA MAA YA’MALUZ ZAALEMOONA FIL ARZE
and save me from the evils of what the wrongdoers do in the earth.
اَللّٰهُمَّ مَا اَخَافُ فَاكْفِنِیْ
ALLAAHUMMA MAA AKHAAFO FAKFENEE
O Allah, as to what I anticipate, (please) save me (from it).
وَمَا اَحْذَرُ فَقِنِیْ
WA MAA AHZARO FAQENEE
As to what I watch out, (please) protect me (against it).
وَفِیْ نَفْسِیْ وَدِیْنِیْ فَاحْرُسْنِیْ وَفِیْ سَفَرِیْ فَاحْفَظْنِیْ
WA FEE NAFSEE WA DEENEE FAHRUSNEE WA FEE SAFAREE FAHFAZNEE
Safeguard me in my soul and religion, watch over me in my journeys,
وَفِیْ اَهْلِیْ وَمَالِیْ فَاخْلُفْنِیْ
WA FEE AHLEE WA MAALEE FAKHLUFNEE
be in charge of my family members and properties during my absence,
وَفِیْ مَا رَزَقْتَنِیْ فَبَارِكْ لِیْ
WA FEE MAA RAZAQTANEE FABAARIK LEE
bless me in that which You provide as sustenance,
وَفِیْ نَفْسِیْ فَذَلِّلْنِیْ وَفِیْ اَعْیُنِ النَّاسِ فَعَظِّمْنِیْ
WA FEE NAFSEE FA-ZALLILNEE WA FEE A-A’YONIN NAASE FA-A’ZZIMNEE
make me see myself as humble, make people see me as great,
وَمِنْ شَرِّ الْجِنِّ وَالْاِنْسِ فَسَلِّمْنِیْ
WA MIN SHARRIL JINNE WAL INSE FASALLIMNEE
keep me sound from the evils of the Jinn and people,
وَبِذُنُوْبِیْ فَلَاْ تَفْضَحْنِیْ
WA BE-ZONOOBEE FALAA TAFZAHNEE
do not disclose me because of my sins,
وَبِسَرِیْرَتِیْ فَلَاْ تُخْزِنِیْ
WA BESAREERATEE FALAA TUKHZENEE
do not disgrace me because of the secret side (of myself),
وَبِعَمَلِیْ فَلَاْ تَبْتَلِنِیْ
WA BEA’MALEE FALAA TABTALENEE
do not try me in my deeds,
وَنِعَمَكَ فَلَاْ تَسْلُبْنِیْ
WA NE-A’MAKA FALAA TASLUBNEE
do not deprive me of Your bounties,
وَاِلٰی غَیْرِكَ فَلَاْ تَكِلْنِیْ
WA ELAA GHAYREKA FALAA TAKILNEE
and do not refer me to anyone other than You.
اِلٰهِیْ اِلٰی مَنْ تَكِلُنِیْ
ELAAHEE ELAA MAN TAKELONEE
To whom do You entrust me?
اِلٰی قَرِیْبٍ فَیَقْطَعُنِیْ
ELAA QAREEBIN FAYAQTA-O’NEE
To a relative, and he will rupture my relation with him!
اَمْ اِلٰی بَعِیْدٍ فَیَتَجَهَمُنِیْ
AM ELAA BA-E’EDIN FA-YATAJAHHAMONEE
Or to a strange, and he will glower at me!
اَمْ اِلَی الْمُسْتَضْعَفِیْنَ لِیْ
AM ELAL MUSTAZA’FEENA LEE
Or to those who deem me weak!
وَاَنْتَ رَبِّیْ وَمَلِیْكُ اَمْرِیْ
WA ANTA RABBEE WA MALEEKO AMREE
While You are my Lord and the master of my affairs!
اَشْكُوْ اِلَیْكَ غُرْبَتِیْ وَبُعْدَ دَارِیْ
ASHKOO ELAYKA GURBATEE WA BO’DA DAAREE
I complain to You about my alienation and my foreignness
وَهَوَانِیْ عَلٰی مَنْ مَلَّكْتَہٗ اَمْرِیْ
WA HAWAANEE A’LAA MAN MALLAKTAHU AMREE
and my ignominy in the eyes of him whom You have given domination over me.
اِلٰهِیْ فَلَاْ تُحْلِلْ عَلَیَّ غَضَبَكَ
ELAAHEE FALAA TOHLIL A’LAYYA GHAZABAKA
So, O my God, do not make Your wrath come upon me.
فَاِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ غَضِبْتَ عَلَیَّ فَلَاْ اُبَالِیْ
FA-IN LAM TAKUN GHAZIBTA A’LAYYA FALAA OBAALEE
If You are not wrathful with me, then I care for nothing save You.
سُبْحَانَكَ غَیْرَ اَنَّ عَافِیَتَكَ اَوْسَعُ لِیْ
SUBHAANAKA GHAYRA ANNA A’AFEYATAKA AWSA-O’ LEE
All glory be to You; yet, Your granting me wellbeing is more favorable for me.
فَاَسْئَلُكَ یَا رَبِّ بِنُوْرِ وَجْهِكَ
FA-ASALOKA YAA RABBE BENOORE WAJHEKAL
So, I beseech You, O my Lord, in the name of the Light of Your Face
الَّذِیْ اَشْرَقَتْ لَهُ الْاَرْضُ وَالسَّمٰوَاتُ
LAZEE ASHRAQAT LAHUL ARZO WAS SAMAAWAATO
to which the earth and the heavens have shone,
وَكُشِفَتْ بِهِ الظُّلُمَاتُ
WA KOSHEFAT BEHIZ ZOLOMAATO
by which all darkness has been uncovered,
وَصَلُحَ بِہٖ اَمْرُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِیْنَ
WA SALOHA BEHI AMRUL AWWALEENA WAL AAKHEREENA
and by which the affairs of the past and the coming generations are made right,
اَنْ لَاْ تُمِیْتَنِیْ عَلٰی غَضَبِكَ
AN LAA TOMEETANEE A’LAA GHAZABEKA
do not cause me to die while You are wrathful with me
وَلَاْ تُنْزِلَ بِیْ سَخَطَكَ
WA LAA TUNZILA BEE SAKHATAKA
and do not inflict on me Your rage.
لَكَ الْعُتْبٰی لَكَ الْعُتْبٰی
LAKAL U’TBAA LAKAL U’TBAA
You have the right to scold; You have the right to scold;
حَتّٰی تَرْضٰیْ قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ
HATTAA TARZAA QABLA ZAALEKA LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA
until You are pleased (with me) before that. There is no god save You;
رَبَّ الْبَلَدِ الْحَرَامِ وَالْمَشْعَرِ الْحَرَامِ
RABBAL BALADIL HARAAME WAL MASHA’RIL HARAAME
Lord of the Holy City, the Holy Monument,
وَالْبَیْتِ الْعَتِیْقِ الَّذِیْ اَحْلَلْتَهُ الْبَرَكَۃَ
WAL BAYTIL A’TEEQIL LAZEE AHLALTAHUL BARAKATA
and the Ancient House that You have encompassed with blessing
وَجَعَلْتَہٗ لِلنَّاسِ اَمْنًا
WA JA-A’LTAHU LINNAASE AMNAN
and made security for people.
یَا مَنْ عَفَا عَنْ عَظِیْمِ الذُّنُوْبِ بِحِلْمِہٖ
YAA MAN A’FAA A’N A’ZEEMIZ ZONOOBE BEHILMEHI
O He Who pardoned the grand sins by His forbearance!
یَا مَنْ اَسْبَغَ النَّعْمَآءَ بِفَضْلِہٖ
YAA MAN ASBAGHAN NA’MAAA-A BEFAZLEHI
O He Who bestowed bounties by His favoring!
یَا مَنْ اَعْطَی الْجَزِیْلَ بِكَرَمِہٖ
YAA MAN A-A’TAL JAZEELA BEKARAMEHI
O He Who gave in abundance by His generosity!
یَا عُدَّتِیْ فِیْ شِدَّتِیْ وَیَا صَاحِبِیْ فِیْ وَحْدَتِیْ
YAA U’DDATEE FEE SHIDDATEE YAA SAAHEBEE FEE WAHDATEE
O my means in my hardship! O my companion in my loneliness!
یَا غِیَاثِیْ فِیْ كُرْبَتِیْ یَا وَلِیِّ فِیْ نِعْمَتِیْ
YAA GHEYAASEE FEE KURBATEE YAA WALIYYEE FEE NEA’MATEE
O my relief in my agony! O my Benefactor in my amenities!
یَا اِلٰهِیْ وَاِلٰهَ اٰبَآئِیْ
YAA ELAAHEE WA ELAAHA AABAAA-EE
O my God and the God of my forefathers:
اِبْرَاهِیْمَ وَاِسْمٰعِیْلَ وَاِسْحٰقَ وَیَعْقُوْبَ
IBRAAHEEMA WA ISMAA-E’ELA WA ISHAAQA WA YA’QOOBA
Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, and Jacob;
وَرَبَّ جَبْرَئِیْلَ وَمِیْكَائِیْلَ وَاِسْرَافِیْلَ
WA RABBA JABRA-EELA WA MEEKAA-EELA WA ISRAAFEELA
the Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Seraph;
وَرَبَّ مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِیِّیْنَ
WA RABBA MOHAMMADIN KHAATAMIN NABIYYEENA
the Lord of Muhammad, the Seal of Prophets,
وَاٰلِهِ الْمُنْتَجَبِیْنَ وَمُنْزِلَ التَّوْرٰیۃِ وَالْاِنْجِیْلِ
WA AALEHIL MUNTAJABEENA WA MUNZELAT TAWRAATE WAL INJEELE
and his elite Household; the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel,
وَالزَّبُوْرِ وَالْفُرْقَانِ
WAZ ZABOORE WAL FURQAANE
the Psalms, and the Furqan;
وَمُنَزِّلَ کہٰٓیٰٓعٓصٓ وَطٰٓہٰ وَیٰٓس
WA MONAZZELA KAAAF-HAAA-YAAA-A’YN-SAAD WA TAAHAA WA YAAASIN
the Revealer of kaaf-haa-yaa-ayn-saad and Taa-haa, Yaa-seen,
وَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِیْمِ
WAL QURNAAANIL HAKEEME
and the Quran, full of wisdom.
اَنْتَ كَهْفِيْ حِیْنَ تُعْیِیْنِيْ الْمَذَاهِبُ فِيْ سَعَتِهَا
ANTA KAHFEE HEENA TO’YEENIL MAZAAHEBO FEE SA-A’TEHAA
You are my haven when the wide courses fail to carry me
وَتَضِیْقُ بِیَ الْاَرْضُ بِرُحْبِهَا
WA TAZEEQO BEYAL ARZO BEROHBEHAA
and when the earth, despite its width, become too narrow to bear me.
وَلَوْلَاْ رَحْمَتُكَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْهَالِكِیْنَ وَاَنْتَ مُقِیْلُ عَثْرَتِیْ
WA LAWLAA RAHMATOKA LAKUNTO MENAL HAALEKEENA WA ANTA MOQEELO A’SRATEE
Without Your mercy, I would have been of those perishing. You overlook my slips;
وَلَوْلَاْ سَتْرُكَ اِیَّایَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمَفْضُوْحِیْنَ
WA LAWLAA SATROKA IYYAAYA LAKUNTO MENAL MAFZOOHEENA
and without Your covering me, I would have been of those exposed.
وَاَنْتَ مُؤَیِّدِیْ بِالنَّصْرِ عَلٰی اَعْدَآئِیْ
WA ANTA MOAYYEDEE BIN-NASRE A’LAA A-A’DAAA-EE
You aid me with Your support against my enemies;
وَلَوْلَاْ نَصْرُكَ اِیَّایَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمَغْلُوْبِیْنَ
WA LAWLAA NASROKA IYYAAYA LAKUNTO MENAL MAGHLOOBEENA
and without Your support, I would have been of those overwhelmed.
یَا مَنْ خَصَّ نَفْسَہٗ بِالسُّمُوِّ وَالرِّفْعَۃِ
YAA MAN KHASSA NAFSAHU BIS-SOMUWWE WAR RIF-A’TE
O He Who gives Himself exclusively superiority and highness;
فَاَوْلِیَآئُہٗ بِعِزِّہٖ یَعْتَزُّوْنَ
FA-AWLEYAAA-OHU BE-I’ZZEHI YA’TAZZOONA
so, His friends pride themselves on account of His pride.
یَا مَنْ جَعَلَتْ لَهُ الْمُلُوْكُ نِیْرَ الْمَذَلَّۃِ عَلٰی اَعْنَاقِهِمْ
YAA MAN JA-A’LAT LAHUL MOLOOKO NEERAL MAZALLATE A’LAA A-A’NAAQEHIM
O He for Whom the kings put the yoke of humiliation on their necks;
فَهُمْ مِنْ سَطَوَاتِہٖ خَآئِفُوْنَ
FAHUM MIN SATAWAATEHI KHAA-EFOONA
for they are fearful of His authority.
یَعْلَمُ خَآئِنَۃَ الْاَعْیُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِیْ الصُّدُوْرُ
YA’LAMO KHAA-ENATAL A-A’YONE WA MAA TUKHFIS SODOORO
He knows the stealthy looks of eyes and that which the breasts conceal
وَغَیْبَ مَا تَاْتِیْ بِهِ الْاَزْمِنَۃُ وَالدُّهُوْرُ
WA GHAYBA MAA TAATEE BEHIL AZMENATO WAD DOHOORO
and the future of the times and ages.
یَا مَنْ لَاْ یَعْلَمُ كَیْفَ هُوَ اِلَّا هُوَ
YAA MAN LAA YA’LAMO KAYFA HOWA ILLAA HOWA
O He save Whom none knows how He is!
یَا مَنْ لَاْ یَعْلَمُ مَا هُوَ اِلَّا هُوَ
YAA MAN LAA YA’LAMO MAA HOWA ILLAA HOWA
O He save Whom none knows what He is!
یَا مَنْ لَاْ يعَلْمُ مَا یَعْلَمُہٗ اِلَّا هُوَ
YAA MAN LAA YA’LAMO MAA YA’LAMOHU ILLAA HOWA
O He save Whom none knows what He knows!
یَا مَنْ كَبَسَ الْاَرْضَ عَلَی الْمَآءِ
YAA MAN KABASAL ARZA A’LAL MAAA-E
O He Who surfaced the earth over the water
وَسَدَّ الْهَوَآءَ بِالسَّمَآءِ یَا مَنْ لَہٗ اَكْرَمُ الْاَسْمَآءِ
WA SADDAL HAWAAA-A BIS-SAMAAA-E YAA MAN LAHU AKRAMUL ASMAAA-E
and blocked the air with the heavens! O He Who has the noblest of names!
یَا ذَالْمَعْرُوْفِ الَّذِیْ لَاْ یَنْقَطِعُ اَبَدًا
YAA ZAL MA’ROOFIL LAZEE LAA YANQATE-O’ ABADAN
O Owner of favor that is never interrupted!
یَا مُقَیِّضَ الرَّكْبِ لِیُوْسُفَ فِی الْبَلَدِ الْقَفْرِ
YAA MOQAYYEZAR RAKBE LE-YOOSOFA FIL BALADIL QAFRE
O He Who directed the caravan towards Joseph in the wasteland,
وَمُخْرِجَہٗ مِنَ الْجُبِّ وَجَاعِلَہٗ بَعْدَ الْعُبُوْدِیَّۃِ مَلِکًا
WA MUKHREJAHU MENAL JUBBE WA JAA-E’LAHU BA’DAL O’BOODIYYATE MALEKAN
took him out of the pit, and made him king after enslavement!
یَارَآدَّہٗ عَلٰی یَعْقُوْبَ
YAA RAAAD-DAHU A’LAA YA’QOOBA
O He Who had returned him to Jacob
بَعْدَ اَنِ ابْیَضَّتْ عَیْنَاهُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَهُوَ كَظِیْمٌ
BA’DA ANIB YAZZAT A’YNAAHO MENAL HUZNE FAHOWA KAZEEMUN
after his eyes became white on account of the grief, and he was a repressor of grief!
یَا كَاشِفَ الضُّرِّ وَالْبَلْوٰی عَنْ اَیُّوْبَ
YAA KAASHEFAZ ZURRE WAL BALWAA A’N AYYOOBA
O He Who removed the distress and misfortune from Job
وَمُمْسِكَ یَدَیْ اِبْرَاهِیْمَ عَنْ ذَبْحِ ابْنِہٖ
WA MUMSEKA YADAY IBRAAHEEMA A’N ZABHIB NEHI
and withheld the hands of Abraham from slaying his son
بَعْدَ كِبَرِ سِنِّہٖ وَفَنَآءِ عُمُرِہٖ
BA’DA KEBARE SINNEHI WA FANAAA-E O’MOREHI
after his old age and termination of his lifetime!
یَا مَنِ اسْتَجَابَ لِزَكَرِیَّا فَوَهَبَ لَہٗ یَحْیٰی
YAA MANIS TAJAABA LEZAKARIYYAA FAWAHABA LAHU YAHYAA
O He Who responded to Zachariah and granted him John
وَلَمْ یَدَعْهُ فَرْدًا وَحِیْدًا
WA LAM YADA’HO FARDAN WAHEEDAN
without leaving him alone and lonely!
یَا مَنْ اَخْرَجَ یُوْنُسَ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْحُوْتِ
YAA MAN AKHRAJA YOONOSA MIN BATNIL HOOTE
O He Who took Jonah out of the belly of the big fish!
یَا مَنْ فَلَقَ الْبَحْرَ لِبَنِیْ اِسْرَآئِیْلَ
YAA MAN FALAQAL BAHRA LEBANEE ISRAAA-EELA
O He Who cleft the sea to the children of Israel;
فَاَنْجَاهُمْ وَجَعَلَ فِرْعُوْنَ وَجُنُوْدَہٗ مِنَ الْمُغْرَقِیْنَ
FA-ANJAAHUM WA JA-A’LA FIR-A’WNA WA JONOODAHU MENAL MUGHRAQEENA
so, He saved them and made Pharaoh and his army of the drowned!
یَا مَنْ اَرْسَلَ الرِّیَاحَ مُبَشِّرَاتٍۢ بَیْنَ یَدَیْ رَحْمَتِہٖ
YAA MAN ARSALAR REYAAHA MOBASH-SHERAATIM BAYNA YADAY RAHMATEHI
O He Who sent the winds, bearing good news, before His mercy!
یَا مَنْ لَمْ یَعْجَلْ عَلٰی مَنْ عَصَاهُ مِنْ خَلْقِہٖ
YAA MAN LAM YA’JAL A’LAA MAN A’SAAHO MIN KHALQEHI
O He Who has no hastiness on His creatures who disobey Him!
یَا مَنِ سْتَنْقَذَ السَّحَرَۃَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ طُوْلِ الْجُحُوْدِ
YAA MANIS TANQAZAS SAHARATA MIM BA’DE TOOLIL JOHOODE
O He Who saved the sorcerers after their long denial!
وَقَدْ غَدَوْ فِیْ نِعْمَتِہٖ
WA QAD GHADAW FEE NE’MATEHI
and after they had lived in His bounty,
یَاْكُلُوْنَ رِزْقَہٗ وَیَعْبُدُوْنَ غَیْرَہٗ
YAAKOLOONA RIZQAHU WA YA’BODOONA GHAYRAHU
eating from His sustenance, but serving someone else other than Him,
وَقَدْ حَآدُّوْهُ وَنَآدُّوْهُ
WA QAD HAADDOOHO WA NAADDOOHO
acting in opposition to Him, antagonizing Him,
وَكَذَّبُوْا رُسُلَہٗ یَا اَﷲُ یَا اَﷲُ یَا بَدِیْءُ
WA KAZZABOO ROSOLAHU YAA ALLAAHO YAA ALLAAHO YAA BADEE-O
and denying His messengers. O Allah! O Allah! O Originator!
یَا بَدِیْعُ لَاْ نِدَّ لَكَ یَا دَآئِمًا لَاْ نَفَادَ لَكَ
YAA BADEE-O’ LAA NIDDA LAKA YAA DAAA-EMAN LAA NAFAADA LAKA
O Fashioner! There is no equal to You. O Everlasting! There is no end to You.
یَا حَیًّا حِیْنَ لَاْ حَیَّ یَا مُحْیِی الْمَوْتٰی
YAA HAYYAN HEENA LAA HAYYA YAA MOHAYEYAL MAWTAA
O Ever-living when there was no living thing! O Raiser from the dead!
یَا مَنْ هُوَ قَآئِمٌ عَلٰی كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ
YAA MAN HOWA QAAA-EMUN A’LAA KULLE NAFSIN BEMAA KASABAT
O He Who watches every soul as to what it earns!
یَا مَنْ قَلَّ لَہٗ شُكْرِیْ فَلَمْ یَحْرِمْنِیْ
YAA MAN QALLA LAHU SHUKRE FALAM YAHRIMNEE
O He to Whom I rarely turned thankful; yet, He did not deprive me,
وَعَظُمَتْ خَطِیْئَتِیْ فَلَمْ یَفْضَحْنِیْ
WA A’ZOMAT KHATEE-ATEE FALAM YAFZAHNEE
against Whom I committed grand sins; yet, He did not disclose me,
وَرَاٰنِیْ عَلَی الْمَعَاصِیْ فَلَمْ یَشْهَرْنِیْ
WA RA-AANEE A’LAL MA-A’ASEE FALAM YASH-HARNEE
and Who saw me insisting on disobeying Him; yet, He did not divulge me.
یَا مَنْ حَفِظَنِیْ فِیْ صِغَرِیْ
YAA MAN HAFEZANEE FEE SEGHAREE
O He Who safeguarded me in my early life!
یَا مِنْ رَزَقَنِیْ فِیْ كِبَرِیْ
YAA MAN RAZAQANEE FEE KEBAREE
O He Who provided me with sustenance in my old age!
یَا مَنْ اَیَادِیْهِ عِنْدِیْ لَاْ تُحْصٰی وَنِعَمُہٗ لَاْ تُجَازٰی
YAA MAN AYAADEEHE I’NDEE LAA TOHSAA WA NE-A’MOHU LAA TOJAAZAA
O He Whose favors to me are innumerable and Whose bounties cannot be compensated!
یَا مَنْ عَارَضَنِیْ بِالْخَیْرِ وَالْاِحْسَانِ
YAA MAN A’ARAZANEE BIL-KHAYRE WAL EHSANE
O He Who receives me with good turn and kindness
وَعَارَضْتُہٗ بِالْاِسَآئَۃِ وَالْعِصْیَانِ
WA A’ARAZTOHU BIL-ESAA-ATE WAL I’SYAANE
but I meet Him with offense and disobedience!
یَا مَنْ هَدَانِیْ لِلْاِیْمَانِ
YAA MAN HADAANEE LIL-EEMAANE
O He Who had guided me to faith
مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ اَعْرِفَ شُكْرَ الْاِمْتِنَانِ
MIN QABLE AN A-A’REFA SHUKRAL IMTENAANE
before I learnt showing gratitude!
یَا مَنْ دَعَوْتُہٗ مَرِیْضًا فَشَفَانِیْ
YAA MAN DA-A’WTOHU MAREEZAN FASHAFAANEE
O He Whom I besought in sickness; so, He restored me to health,
وَعُرْیَانًا فَكَسَانِیْ وَجَآئِعًا فَاَشْبَعَنِیْ
WA U’RYAANAN FAKASAANEE WA JAAA-E-A’N FA-ASHBA-A’NEE
in bareness; so, He covered me, in hunger; so, He satiated me,
وَعَطْشَانَ فَاَرْوَانِیْ وَذَلِیْلًا فَاَعَزَّنِیْ
WA A’TSHAANAN FA-ARWAANEE WA ZALEELAN FA-A-A’ZZANEE
in thirst; so, He quenched my thirst, in humility; so, He granted me dignity,
وَجَاهِلًا فَعَرَّفَنِیْ وَوَحِیْدًا فَكَثَّرَنِیْ
WA JAAHELAN FA-A’RRAFANEE WA WAHEEDAN FAKASSARANEE
in ignorance; so, He taught me, in loneliness; so, He increased my number,
وَغَائِبًا فَرَدَّنِیْ
WA GHAAEBAN FARADDANEE
in foreignness absence; so, He returned me home,
وَمُقِلًّا فَاَغْنَانِیْ وَمُنْتَصِرًا فَنَصَرَنِیْ
WA MOQILLAN FA-AGHNAANEE WA MUNTASERAN FA-NASARANEE
in poverty; so, He enriched me, in victory-seeking; so, He supported me,
وَغَنِیًّا فَلَمْ یَسْلُبْنِیْ
WA GHANIYYAN FALAM YASLUBNEE
and in richness; so, He did not deprive me.
وَاَمْسَكْتُ عَنْ جَمِیْعِ ذٰلِكَ فَابْتَدَاَنِیْ
WA AMSAKTO A’N JAMEE-E’ ZAALEKA FABTADA-ANEE
When I withheld praying Him in all these situation, He took the initiative.
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَالشُّكْرُ یَا مَنْ اَقَالَ عَثْرَتِیْ
FALAKAL HAMDO WASH-SHUKRO YAA MAN AQAALA A’SRATEE
So, all praise and thanks be to You; O He Who overlooked my slips,
وَنَفَّسَ كُرْبَتِیْ وَاَجَابَ دَعْوَتِیْ
WA NAFFASA KURBATEE WA AJAABA DA’WATEE
relieved my agonies, responded to my prayer,
وَسَتَرَ عَوْرَتِیْ وَغَفَرَ ذُنُوْبِیْ
WA SATARA A’WRATEE WA GHAFARA ZONOOBEE
covered my flaws, forgave my sins,
وَبَلَّغَنِیْ طَلِبَتِیْ وَنَصَرَنِیْ عَلٰی عَدُوِّیْ
WA BALLAGHANEE TALEBATEE WA NASARANEE A’LAA A’DUWWEE
settled my need, and supported me against my enemy.
وَاِنْ اَعُدَّ نِعَمَكَ وَمِنَنَكَ وَكَرَائِمَ مِنَحِكَ لَاْ اُحْصِیْهَا
WA IN A-U’DDO NE-A’MAKA WA MENANAKA WA KARAA-EMA MENAHEKA LAA OHSEEHAA
If I count Your bounties, favors, and liberal gifts, I will never number them.
یَا مَوْلَایَ اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ مَنَنْتَ
YAA MAWLAAYA ANTAL LAZEE MANANTA
O my Master! It is You Who bestowed (upon me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَنْعَمْتَ اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَحْسَنْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AN-A’MTA ANTAL LAZEE AHSANTA
It is You Who conferred favors (upon me). It is You Who did good (to me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَجْمَلْتَ اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَفْضَلْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AJMALTA ANTAL LAZEE AFZALTA
It is You Who treated (me) excellently. It is You Who favored (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَكْمَلْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AKMALTA
It is You Who perfected (Your blessings upon me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ رَزَقْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE RAZAQTA
It is You Who provided (me) with sustenance.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ وَفَّقْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE WAFFAQTA
It is You Who led (me) to success.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَعْطَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE A-A’TAYTA
It is You Who gave (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَغْنَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AGHNAYTA
It is You Who enriched (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَقْنَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AQNAYTA
It is You Who gave (me) to hold.
اَنْتَ الَّذِيْ اٰوَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AAWAYTA
It is You Who gave (me) shelter.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ كَفَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE KAFAYTA
It is You Who saved (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ هَدَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE HADAYTA
It is You Who guided (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ عَصَمْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE A’SAMTA
It is You Who protected (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ سَتَرْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE SATARTA
It is You Who covered my faults.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ غَفَرْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE GHAFARTA
It is You Who forgave (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَقَلْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AQALTA
It is You Who overlooked my sins.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ مَكَنْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE MAKKANTA
It is You Who established (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَعْزَزْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE A-A’ZAZTA
It is You Who consolidated (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَعَنْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE A-A’NTA
It is You Who helped (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ عَضَدْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE A’ZADTA
It is You Who backed (me) up.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَیَّدْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AYYADTA
It is You Who aided (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ نَصَرْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE NASARTA
It is You Who supported (me).
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ شَفَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE SHAFAYTA
It is You Who restored (me) to health.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ عَافَیْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE A’AFAYTA
It is You Who granted (me) wellbeing.
اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ اَكْرَمْتَ
ANTAL LAZEE AKRAMTA
It is You Who honored (me).
تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَیْتَ
TABAARAKTA WA TA-A’ALAYTA
Blessed be You and Exalted be You.
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ دَآئِمًا
FALAKAL HAMDO DAAA-EMAN
So, all praise be to You permanently,
وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ وَاصِبًا اَبَدًا
WA LAKASH SHUKRO WAASEBAN ABADAN
and all thanks be to You enduringly and eternally.
ثُمَّ اَنَا یَا اِلٰهِیْ الْمُعْتَرِفُ بِذُنُوْبِیْ
SUMMA ANAA YAA ELAAHIL MO’TAREFO BEZONOOBEE
However, it is I, O my God, who confess of my sins;
فَاغْفِرْ هَالِیْ
FAGHFIR HAALEE
so, forgive them to me.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ اَسَاْتُ
ANAL LAZEE ASAATO
It is I who did badly.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ اَخْطَاْتُ
ANAL LAZEE AKH-TAATO
It is I who did wrong.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ هَمَمْتُ
ANAL LAZEE HAMAMTO
It is I who had evil intention.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ جَهِلْتُ
ANAL LAZEE JAHILTO
It is I who acted impolitely.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ غَفَلْتُ
ANAL LAZEE GHAFALTO
It is I who was inadvertent.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ سَهَوْتُ
ANAL LAZEE SAHAWTO
It is I who was inattentive.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ اعْتَمَدْتُ
ANAL LAZEE’ TAMADTO
It is I who leaned (on something other than You).
اَنَا الَّذِیْ تَعَمَّدْتُ
ANAL LAZEE TA-A’MMADTO
It is I who did wrong deliberately.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ وَعَدْتُ
ANAL LAZEE WA-A’DTO
It is I who promised.
وَاَنَا الَّذِیْ اَخْلَفْتُ
ANAL LAZEE AKHLAFTO
It is I who failed to fulfill it.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ نَكَثْتُ
ANAL LAZEE NAKASTO
It is I who breached.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ اَقْرَرْتُ
ANAL LAZEE AQRARTO
It is I who confessed.
اَنَا الَّذِیْ اعْتَرَفْتُ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَیَّ وَعِنْدِیْ
ANAL LAZEE’ TARAFTO BE-NE’MATEKA A’LAYYA WA I’NDEE
It is I who testified to Your favors upon and with me,
وَاَبُوْءُ بِذُنُوْبِیْ فَاغْفِرْهَا لِیْ
WA ABOO-O BEZONOOBEE FAGHFIRHAA LEE
and I now acknowledge of my sins; so, forgive them to me.
یَا مَنْ لَاْ تَضُرُّہٗ ذُنُوْبُ عِبَادِہٖ
YAA MAN LAA TAZURROHU ZONOOBO E’BAADEHI
O He Who is not injured by the sins of His servants,
وَهُوَ الْغَنِیُّ عَنْ طَاعَتِهِمْ
WA HOWAL GHANIYYO A’N TAA-A’TEHIM
and Who can surely do without their obedience,
وَالْمُوَفِّقُ مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّنْهُمْ
WAL MOWAFFEQO MAN A’MELA SAALEHAM MINHUM
and Who inspires those of them to do good,
بِمَعُوْنَتِہٖ وَرَحْمَتِہٖ
BEMA-O’ONATEHI WA RAHMATEHI
out of His aid and mercy.
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ اِلٰهِیْ وَسَیِّدِیْ
FALAKAL HAMDO ELAAHEE WA SAYYEDEE
So, all praise be to You, O my God and my Master.
اِلٰهِیْ اَمَرْتَنِیْ فَعَصَیْتُكَ
ELAAHEE AMARTANEE FA-A’SAYTOKA
O my God: You ordered me, but I disobeyed You.
وَنَهَیْتَنِیْ فَارْتَكَبْتُ نَهْیَكَ
WA NAHAYTANEE FARTAKABTO NAHYAKA
You warned me, but I violated Your warning
فَاَصْبَحْتُ لَاْ ذَا بَرَآئَۃٍ لِّیْ فَاَعْتَذِرُ
FA-ASBAHTO LAA ZAA BARAAA-ATIL LEE FA-A-A’TAZERO
So, I am now lacking neither justification to apologize
وَلَاْ ذَا قُوَّۃٍ فَاَنْتَصِرُ
WA LAA ZAA QUWWATIN FA-ANTASERO
nor power to support myself.
فَبِاَیِّ شَیْءٍ اَسْتَقْبِلُكَ یَا مَوْلَایَ
FABEAYYE SHAY-IN ASTAQBELOKA YAA MAWLAAYA
By which thing can I now meet You, O my Master?
اَبِسَمْعِیْ اَمْ بِبَصَرِیْ اَمْ بِلِسَانِیْ اَمْ بِیَدِیْ اَمْ بِرِجْلِیْ
A BESAM-E’E AM BE-BASAREE AM BELESAANEE AM BEYADEE AM BERIJLEE
Is it by my hearing, my sight, my tongue, my hand, or my foot?
اَلَیْسَ كُلُّهَا نِعَمَكَ عِنْدِیْ
A LAYSA KULLOHAA NE-A’MAKA I’NDEE
Are all these not Your bounties on me
وَبِكُلِّهَا عَصَیْتُكَ یَا مَوْلَایَ
WA BEKULLEHAA A’SAYTOKA YAA MAWLAAYA
and with all of them I have disobeyed You, O my Master?
فَلَكَ الْحُجَّۃُ وَالسَّبِیْلُ عَلَیَّ
FALAKAL HUJJATO WAS SABEELO A’LAYYA
You have absolute argument and claim against me.
یَا مَنْ سَتَرَنِیْ مِنَ الْاٰبَآءِ وَالْاُمَّهَاتِ اَنْ یَزْجُرُوْنِیْ
YAA MAN SATARANEE MENAL AAABAAA-E WAL UMMAHAATE AN YAZJOROONEE
O He Who covered me from fathers and mothers lest they might have driven me away,
وَمِنَ الْعَشَائِرِ وَالْاِخْوَانِ اَنْ یُعَیِّرُوْنِیْ
WA MENAL A’SHAA-ERE WAL IKHWAANE AN YO-A’YYEROONEE
from relatives and friends lest they might have gibed me,
وَمِنَ السَّلَاطِیْنِ اَنْ یُعَاقِبُوْنِیْ وَلَوِاطَّلَعُوْا یَا مَوْلَایَ
WA MENAS SALAATEENE AN YO-A’AQEBOONEE WA LAWIT TALAO’O YAA MAWLAAYA
and from rulers lest they might have punished me. Had they, O my Master, seen
عَلٰی مَا اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَیْهِ مِنِّیْ اِذًا مَّا اَنْظَرُوْنِیْ
A’LAA MAT TALA’TA A’LAYHE MINNEE EZAM MAA ANZAROONEE
that which You knew about me, they would certainly have granted me no respite
وَلَرَفَضُوْنِیْ وَقَطَعُوْنِیْ
WA LARAFAZOONEE WA QATAO’ONEE
and they would have rejected and parted company with me.
فَهَا اَنَا ذَا یَا اِلٰهِیْ بَیْنَ یَدَیْكَ یَا سَیِّدِیْ
FAHAA ANAA ZAA YAA ELAAHEE BAYNA YADAYKA YAA SAYYEDEE
Here I am now, O my God, between Your hands, O my Master,
خَاضِعٌ ذَلِیْلٌ حَصِیْرٌ حَقِیْرٌ
KHAAZE-U’N ZALEELUN HASEERUN HAQEERUN
submissive, humble, helpless, and worthless.
لَاْ ذُوْ بَرَآئَۃٍ فَاعْتَذِرُ
LAA ZOO BARAAA-ATIN FA’TAZERO
I am now lacking neither justification to apologize
وَلَاْ ذُوْقُوَّۃٍ فَاَنْتَصِرَ
WA LAA ZOO QUWWATIN FAN-TASERA
nor power to support myself,
وَلَاْ حُجَّۃٍ فَاَحْتَجُّ بِهَا
WA LAA HUJJATIN FA-AHTAJJO BEHAA
nor excuse to advance as a plea,
وَلَاْ قَآئِلٌ لَمْ اَجْتَرِحْ وَلَمْ اَعْمَلْ سُوْٓ ءً
WA LAA QAAA-ELUN LAM AJTAREH WA LAM A-A’MAL SOOO-AN
nor can I claim not committing and not acting badly.
وَمَا عَسَی الْجُحُوْدُ وَلَوْ جَحَدْتُ یَا مَوْلَایَ یَنْفَعُنِیْ
WA MAA A’SAL JOHOODO WA LAW JAHADTO YAA MAWLAAYA YANFA-O’NEE
How can denial, if I deny, O my Master, serve me?
كَیْفَ وَاَنّٰی ذٰلِكَ
KAYFA WA ANNAA ZAALEKA
How and in what manner can I do so,
وَجَوَارِحِیْ كُلُّهَا شَاهِدَۃٌ عَلَیَّ بِمَا قَدْ عَمِلْتُ
WA JAWAAREHEE KULLAHAA SHAHEDATUN A’LAYYA BEMAA QAD A’MILTO
while all my organs are witnesses for what I did?
وَعَلِمْتُ یَقِیْنًا غَیْرَ ذِیْ شَكٍّ
WA A’LIMTO YAQEENAN GHAYRA ZEE SHAKKIN
I know for sure and without doubt
اَنَّكَ سَآئِلِیْ مِنْ عَظَائِمِ الْاُمُوْرِ
ANNAKA SAAA-ELEE MIN A’ZAAEMIL OMOORE
that You will interrogate me about these grand matter,
وَاَنَّكَ الْحَكَمُ الْعَدْلُ الَّذِیْ لَاْ تَجُوْرُ
WA ANNAKAL HAKAMUL A’DLUL LAZEE LAA TAJOORO
You are the Just Judge Who never wrongs,
وَعَدْلُكَ مُهْلِكِیْ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَدْلِكَ مَهْرَبِیْ
WA A’DLOKA MOHLEKEE WA MIN KULLE A’DLEKA MAHRABEE
Your justice will ruin me, and from Your all justice I flee.
فَاِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِیْ یَا اِلٰهِیْ
FA-IN TO-A’ZZIBNEE YAA ELAAHEE
If You, O my God, chastise me,
فَبِذُنُوْبِیْ بَعْدَ حُجَّتِكَ عَلَیَّ
FABEZONOOBEE BA’DA HUJJATEKA A’LAYYA
then it is because of my sins after Your claim against me;
وَاِنْ تَعْفُ عَنِّیْ
WA IN TA’FO A’NNEE
and if You pardon me,
فَبِحِلْمِكَ وَجُوْدِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ
FABEHILMEKA WA JOODEKA WA KARAMEKA
then it is on account of Your forbearance, magnanimity, and generosity.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAZ ZAALEMEENA
I have been of the wrongdoers.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُسْتَغْفِرِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL MUSTAGHFEREENA
I have been of those seeking forgiveness.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُوَحِّدِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL MOWAHHEDEENA
I have been of those professing Your Oneness.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْخَآئِفِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL KHAAA-EFEENA
I have been of the fearful.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْوَجِلِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL WAJELEENA
I have been of the apprehensive.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الرَّاجِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAR RAAJEENA
I have been of those hoping (for You).
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الرَّاغِبِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAR RAAGHEBEENA
I have been of those desiring (for You).
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُهَلِّلِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL MOHALLELEENA
I have been of those professing that there is no god save You.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ السَّآئِلِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAS SAAA-ELEENA
I have been of those beseeching (You).
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL MOSABBEHEENA
I have been of those glorifying (You).
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
اِنِّیْ كُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُكَبِّرِیْنَ
INNEE KUNTO MENAL MOKABBEREENA
I have been of those professing that You are the Greatest.
لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ
LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA
There is no god save You. All glory be to You.
رَبِّی وَرَبُّ اٰبَآئِیَ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ
RABBEE WA RABBO AABAAA-EYAL AWWALEENA
You are my Lord and the Lord of my bygone fathers.
اَللّٰهُمَّ ہٰذَا ثَنَآئِیْ عَلَیْكَ مُمَجِّدًا
ALLAAHUMMA HAAZAA SANAAA-EE A’LAYKA MOMAJJEDAN
O Allah, this is my praise for You, celebrating Your glory,
وَاِخْلَاصِیْ لِذِكْرِكَ مُوَحِّدًا
WA IKHLAASEE LEZIKREKA MOWAHHEDAN
my sincerity to mention You and profess Your Oneness,
وَاِقْرَارِیْ بِاٰلَآئِكَ مُعَدِّدًا
WA IQRAAREE BE-AA-LAAA-EKA MO-A’DDEDAN
and my acknowledgment of Your bounties, counting them,
وَاِنْ كُنْتُ مُقِرًّا اَنِّیْ لَمْ اُحْصِهَا
WA IN KUNTO MOQIRRAN ANNEE LAM OH-SEHAA
although I confess that I could never count them
لِكَثْرَتِهَا وَسُبُوْعِهَا وَتَظَاهُرِهَا وَتَقَادُمِهَا اِلٰی حَادِثٍ
LEKASRATEHAA WA SOBOO-E’HAA WA TAZAAHOREHAA WA TAQAADOMEHAA ELAA HAADESIN
for they are innumerable, abundant, continuous, and prior to a certain event.
مَا لَمْ تَزَلْ تَتَعَهَدُنِیْ بِہٖ مَعَهَا
MAA LAM TAZAL TATA-A’H-HADONEE BEHI MA-A’HAA
You have been conferring upon me with these bounties
مُنْذُ خَلَقْتَنِیْ وَبَرَاتَنِیْ مِنْ اَوَّلِ الْعُمْرِ
MUNZO KHALAQTANEE WA BARAATANEE MIN AWWALIL U’MRE
since You created and originated me from the beginning of my age
مِنَ الْاَغْنَاءِ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَكَشْفِ الضُّرِّ
MENAL AGHNAAA-E MENAL FAQRE WA KASHFIZ ZURRE
through meeting my poverty relieving me from harm,
وَتَسْبِیْبِ الْیُسْرِ وَدَفْعِ الْعُسْرِ
WA TASBEEBIL YUSRE WA DAF-I’L U’SRE
giving me means of easiness, repelling misery from me,
وَتَفْرِیْجِ الْكَرْبِ وَالْعَافِیَۃِ فِیْ الْبَدَنِ
WA TAFREEJIL KARBE WAL A’AFEYATE FIL BADANE
alleviating my agonies, granting me wellbeing in my body,
وَالسَّلَامَۃِ فِیْ الدِّیْنِ
WAS SALAAMATE FID DEENE
and furnishing me with sound faith.
وَلَوْرَفَدَنِیْ عَلٰی قَدْرِ ذِكْرِ نِعْمَتِكَ جَمِیْعُ الْعَالَمِیْنَ
WA LAW RAFADANEE A’LAA QADRE ZIKRE NE’MATEKA JAMEE-U’L A’ALAMEENA
If all creatures assist me to be able to mention Your bounties,
مِنَ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِیْنَ
MENAL AWWALEENA WAL AAKHEREENA
including the past and the coming generations,
مَا قَدَرْتُ وَلَاْ هُمْ عَلٰی ذٰلِكَ تَقَدَّسْتَ وَتَعَالَیْتَ
MAA QADARTO WA LAA HUM A’LAA ZAALEKA TAQADDASTA WA TA-A’ALAYTA
neither I nor will they be able to do that. Holy be You and Exalted be You;
مِنْ رَّبِّ كَرِیْمٍ عَظِیْمٍ رَّحِیْمٍ
MIR RABBE KAREEMIN A’ZEEMIR RAHEEMIN
You are All-generous, All-great, and All-merciful Sustainer.
لَاْ تُحْصٰی اٰلَآؤُكَ وَلَاْ یَبْلُغُ ثَنَآؤُكَ
LAA TOHSAA AA-LAAA-OKA WA LAA YUBLAGHO SANAAA-OKA
Your bounties are innumerable, (proper) praise of You is unreachable,
وَلَاْ تُكَافٰی نَعْمَآؤُكَ
WA LAA TOKAAFAA NA’MAAA-OKA
and Your graces cannot be rewarded.
صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN
send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَاَتْمِمْ عَلَیْنَا نِعَمَكَ وَاَسْعِدْنَا بِطَاعَتِكَ
WA ATMIM A’LAYNAA NE-A’MAKA WA AS-I’DNAA BE-TAA-A’TEKA
perfect Your bounties for us, and make us happy by obeying You.
سُبْحَانَكَ لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ
SUBHAANAKA LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA
All glory be to You. There is no god save You.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّكَ تُجِیْبُ الْمُضْطَرَّ
ALLAAHUMMA INNAKA TOJEEBUL MUZTARRA
O Allah, verily, You answer the distressed,
وَتَكْشِفُ السُّوْٓ ءَ وَتُغِیْثُ الْمَكْرُوْبَ
WA TAKSHEFUS SOOO-A WA TOGHEESUL MAKROOBA
remove the evil, aid the anguished,
وَتَشْفِیْ السَّقِیْمَ وَتُغْنِيْ الْفَقِیْرَ
WA TASHFIS SAQEEMA WA TUGHNIL FAQEERA
cure the ailed, enrich the poor,
وَتَجْبُرُ الْكَسِیْرَ وَتَرْحَمُ الصَّغِیْرَ
WA TAJBORUL KASEERA WA TARHAMUS SAGHEERA
set the broken, have mercy on the young,
وَتُعِیْنُ الْكَبِیْرَ وَلَیْسَ دُوْنَكَ ظَهِیْرٌ
WA TO-E’ENUL KABEERA WA LAYSA DOONAKA ZAHEERUN
help the old, none can help against You,
وَلَاْ فَوْقَكَ قَدِیْرٌ وَاَنْتَ الْعَلِیُّ الْكَبِیْرُ
WA LAA FAWQAKA QADEERUN WA ANTAL A’LIYYUL KABEERO
none is more powerful than You, and You are the Most High, the All-great.
یَا مُطْلِقَ الْمُكَبَّلِ الْاَسِیْرِ یَا رَازِقَ الطِّفْلِ الصَّغِیْرِ
YAA MUTLEQAL MOKABBALIL ASEERE YAA RAAZEQAT TIFLIS SAGHEERE
O He Who release the shackled captive! O He Who provides sustenance to the young child!
یَا عِصْمَۃَ الْخَآئِفِ الْمُسْتَجِیْرِ
YAA I’SMATAL KHAAA-EFIL MUSTAJEERE
O He Who is the Preserver of the afraid seeker of refuge!
یَا مَنْ لَاْ شَرِیْكَ لَہٗ وَلَاْ وَزِیْرَ
YAA MAN LAA SHAREEKA LAHU WA LAA WAZEERA
O He Who has neither partner nor assistant,
صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN
send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَاَعْطِنِیْ فِیْ ہٰذِهِ الْعَشِیَّۃِ اَفْضَلَ مَا اَعْطَیْتَ وَاَنَلْتَ
WA A-A’TENEE FEE HAAZEHIL A’SHIYYATE AFZALA MAA A-A’TAYTA WA ANALTA
and grant me, in this evening, the best of what You have granted and awarded
اَحَدًا مِّنْ عِبَادِكَ مِنْ نِعْمَۃٍ تُوْلِیْهَا
AHADAM MIN E’BAADEKA MIN NE’MATIN TOOLEEHAA
to any of Your servants, including a grace that You donate,
وَاٰلَآءٍ تُجَدِّدُهَا وَبَلِیَّۃٍ تَصْرِفُهَا
WA AA-LAAA-IN TOJADDEDOHAA WA BALIYYATIN TASREFOHAA
bounties that You re-offer, a tribulation that You deter,
وَكُرْبَۃٍ تَكْشِفُهَا وَدَعْوَۃٍ تَسْمَعُهَا
WA KURBATIN TAKSHEFOHAA WA DA’WATIN TASMA-O’HAA
an anguish that You remove, a prayer that You answer,
وَحَسَنَۃٍ تَتَقَبَّلُهَا وَسَیِّئَۃٍ تَتَغَمَّدُهَا
WA HASANATIN TATAQABBALOHAA WA SAYYE-ATIN TATAGHAMMADOHAA
a good deed that You admit, and an evildoing that You screen.
اِنَّكَ لَطِیْفٌ بِمَا تَشَآءُ خَبِیْرٌ
INNAKA LATEEFUN BEMAA TASHAAA-O KHABEERUN
Verily, You are All-tender to him You will, and All-aware,
وَعَلٰی كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرٌ
WA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEERUN
and You have power over all things.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّكَ اَقْرَبُ مَنْ دُعِیَ
ALLAAHUMMA INNAKA AQRABO MIN DO-E’YA
O Allah, Verily, You are the nearest of those whom are prayed,
وَاَسْرَعُ مَنْ اَجَابَ
WA ASRA-O’ MAN AJAABA
You are the promptest of those who may respond,
وَاَكْرَمُ مَنْ عَفٰی
WA AKRAMO MAN A’FAA
the most generous of those who may pardon,
وَاَوْسَعُ مَنْ اَعْطٰی
WA AWSA-O’ MAN A-A’TAA
the most liberal of those who give,
وَاَسْمَعُ مَنْ سُئِلَ
WA ASMA-O’ MAN SO-ELA
and the most responding of those whom are asked.
یَا رَحْمٰنَ الدُّنْیَا وَالْاٰخِرَۃِ وَرَحِیْمَهُمَا
YAA RAHMAANAD DUNYAA WAL AAKHERATE WA RAHEEMAHOMAA
O All-beneficent of the world and the Hereafter, and All-merciful!
لَیْسَ كَمِثْلِكَ مَسْئُوْلٌ وَلَاْ سِوَاكَ مَاْمُوْلٌ
LAYSA KAMISLEKA MAS-OOLUN WA LAA SEWAAKA MAAMOOLUN
No besought one is like You and none save You is hoped.
دَعَوْتُكَ فَاَجَبْتَنِیْ وَسَئَلْتُكَ فَاعْطَیْتَنِیْ
DA-A’WTOKA FA-AJABTANEE WA SA-A’LTOKA FA-A-A’TAYTANEE
I prayed You and You answered me. I besought You and You gave me.
وَرَغِبْتُ اِلَیْكَ فَرَحِمْتَنِیْ وَوَثِقْتُ بِكَ فَنَجَّیْتَنِیْ
WA RAGHIBTO ELAYKA FARAHIMTANEE WA WASIQTO BEKA FANAJJAYTANEE
I desired for You and You had mercy on me. I had confidence in You and You saved me.
وَفَزِعْتُ اِلَیْكَ فَكَفَیْتَنِیْ
WA FAZE’TO ELAYKA FA-KAFAYTANEE
I resorted to You in awe and You delivered me.
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ
ALLAAHUMMA FA-SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADIN
O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad,
عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُوْلِكَ وَنَبِیِّكَ
A’BDEKA WA ROSOLEKA WA NABIYYEKA
Your servant, messenger, and prophet,
وَعَلٰی اٰلِهِ الطَّیِّبِیْنَ الطَّاهِرِیْنَ اَجْمَعِیْنَ
WA A’LAA AALEHIT TAYYEBEENAT TAAHEREENA AJMA-E’ENA
and to all of his Household, the pure and immaculate,
وَتَمِّمْ لَنَا نَعْمَآئَكَ وَهَنِّئْنَا عَطَآئَكَ
WA TAMMIM LANAA NA’MAAA-AKA WA HANNEA-NAA A’TAAA-AKA
and perfect for us Your graces, make us taste the pleasure of Your gifts,
وَاكْتُبْنَا لَكَ شَاكِرِیْنَ وَلِاٰلَآئِكَ ذَاكِرِیْنَ
WAK TUBNAA LAKA SHAAKEREENA WA LE-AALAAA-EKA ZAAKEREENA
and register us as thankful for You and as oft-referring to You.
اٰمِیْنَ اٰمِیْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ اَللّٰهُمَّ یَا مَنْ مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ
AAMEENA AAMEENA RABBAL A’ALAMEENA ALLAAHUMMA YAA MAN MALAKA FAQADARA
Respond, respond! O Lord of the worlds! O Allah, Who owns; therefore, He controls,
وَقَدَرَ فَقَهَرَ وَعُصِیَ فَسَتَرَ
WA QADARA FAQAHARA WA O’SEYA FASATARA
and controls; therefore, He has absolute authority, and is disobeyed; yet, He covers,
وَاسْتُغْفِرَ فَغَفَرَ
WAS TUGHFERA FA-GHAFARA
and is prayed for forgiveness; therefore, He forgives.
یَا غَایَۃَ الطَّالِبِیْنَ الرَّاغِبِیْنَ
YAA GHAYATAT TAALEBEENAR RAAGHEBEENA
O He Who is the aim of seekers and desirers
وَمُنْتَہٰی اَمَلِ الرَّاجِیْنَ
WA MUNTAHAA AMALIR RAAJEENA
and the ultimate purpose of the hope of hopers!
یَا مَنْ اَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَیْءٍ عِلْمًا
YAA MAN AHAATA BE-KULLE SHAY-IN I’LMAN
O He Who encompasses all things in knowledge
وَوَسِعَ الْمُسْتَقِيْلِیْنَ رَاْفَۃً وَّرَحْمَۃً وَّحِلْمًا
WA WASE-A’L MUSTAQBELEENA RAAFATANW WA RAHMATANW WA HILMAN
and covers those who quit (their sins) with tender, mercy, and forbearance!
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّا نَتَوَجَّهُ اِلَیْكَ فِیْ ہٰذِهِ الْعَشِیَّۃِ
ALLAAHUMMA INNAA NATAWAJJAHO ELAYKA FEE HAAZEHIL A’SHIYYATIL
O Allah, we turn our faces to You in this evening
الَّتِیْ شَرَّفْتَهَا وَعَظَّمْتَهَا
LATEE SHARRAFTAHAA WA A’ZZAMTAHAA
that You deem honorable and reverential
بِمُحَمَّدٍ نَبِیِّكَ وَرَسُوْلِكَ
BEMOHAMMADIN NABIYYEKA WA RASOOLEKA
(asking You) in the name of Muhammad, Your Prophet, Messenger,
وَخِیَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ وَاَمِیْنِكَ عَلٰی وَحْیِكَ
WA KHEYARATEKA MIN KHALQEKA WA AMEENEKA A’LAA WAHYEKAL
the best of Your creation, Your trustee on Your Revelation,
الْبَشِیْرِ النَّذِیْرِ السِّرَاجِ الْمُنِیْرِ
BASHEERIN NAZEERIS SERAAJIL MONEERIL
the bearer of glad tidings, the warner, and the shining lantern,
الَّذِیْ اَنْعَمْتَ بِہٖ عَلَی الْمُسْلِمِیْنَ
LAZEE AN-A’MTA BEHI A’LAL MUSLEMEENA
with whom You have conferred upon the Muslims,
وَجَعَلْتَہٗ رَحْمَۃً لِّلْعَالَمِیْنَ
WA JA-A’LTAHU RAHMATAN LIL-A’ALAMEENA
and whom You made mercy for the worlds.
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
ALLAAHUMMA FASALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADIN
So, O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
كَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ اَهْلٌ لِذٰلِكَ مِنْكَ یَا عَظِیْمُ
KAMAA MOHAMMADUN AHLUN LEZAALEKA MINKA YAA A’ZEEMO
For as much as Muhammad deserves that from You, O All-great.
فَصَلِّ عَلَیْهِ وَعَلٰی اٰلِهِ
FASALLE A’LAYHE WA A’LAA AALEHIL
So, send blessings to him and his Household,
الْمُنْتَجَبِیْنَ الطَّیِّبِیْنَ الطَّاهِرِیْنَ اَجْمَعِیْنَ
MUNTAJABEENAT TAYYEBEENAT TAAHEREENA AJMA-E’ENA
the elite, pure, and immaculate — all of them,
وَتَغَمَّدْنَا بِعَفْوِكَ عَنَّا
WA TAGHAMMADNAA BE-A’FWEKA A’NNAA
and encompass us with Your pardoning us.
فَاِلَیْكَ عَجَّتِ الْاَصْوَاتُ بِصُنُوْفِ اللُّغَاتِ
FA-ELAYKA AJJATIL ASWAATO BESONOOFIL LOGHAATE
To You are the voices of various languages clamoring;
فَاجْعَلْ لَنَا اَللّٰهُمَّ فِیْ ہٰذِهِ الْعَشِیَّۃِ
FAJ-A’L LANAA ALLAAHUMMA FEE HAAZEHIL A’SHIYYATE
so, decide for us, O Allah, in this evening
نَصِیْبًا مِنْ كُلِّ خَیْرٍ تَقْسِمُہٗ بَیْنَ عِبَادِكَ
NASEEBAN MIN KULLE KHAYRIN TAQSEMOHU BAYNA E’BAADEKA
a share from every good item that You distribute among Your servants,
وَنُوْرٍ تَهْدِیْ بِہٖ وَرَحْمَۃٍ تَنْشُرُهَا
WA NOORIN TAHDEE BEHI WA RAHMATIN TANSHOROHAA
illumination by which You guide, mercy that You spread,
وَبَرَكَۃٍ تُنْزِلُهَا وَعَافِیَۃٍ تُجَلِّلُهَا
WA BARAKATIN TUNZELOHAA WA A’AFEYATIN TOJALLELOHAA
blessing that You bring down, wellbeing that You extend,
وَرِزْقٍ تَبْسُطُہٗ یَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِیْنَ
WA RIZQIN TABSOTOHU YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA
and sustenance that You stretch, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
اَللّٰهُمَّ اقْلِبْنَا فِی ہٰذَا الْوَقْتِ مُنْجِحِیْنَ مُفْلِحِیْنَ
ALLAAHUMMA AQLIBNAA FEE HAAZAL WAQTE MUNJEHEENA MUFLEHEENA
O Allah, turn us in this hour successful, flourishing,
مَبْرُوْرِیْنَ غَانِمِیْنَ وَلَاْ تَجْعَلْنَ مِنَ الْقَانِطِیْنَ
MABROOREENA GHAANEMEENA WA LAA TAJ-A’LNAA MENAL QAANETEENA
blessed, and gainers. Do not include us with the despondent.
وَلَاْ تُخْلِنَا مِنْ رَّحْمَتِكَ
WA LAA TUKHLENAA MIR RAHMATEKA
Do not leave us without Your mercy.
وَلَاْ تَحْرِمْنَا مَا نُؤَمِّلُہٗ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
WA LAA TAHRIMNAA MAA NOAMMELOHU MIN FAZLEKA
Do not deprive us of that which we hope from Your favor.
وَلَاْ تَجْعَلْنَا مِنْ رَّحْمَتِكَ مَحْرُوْمِیْنَ
WA LAA TAJ-A’LNAA MIR RAHMATEKA MAHROOMEENA
Do not make us deprived of Your mercy,
وَلَاْ لِفَضْلِ مَا نُؤَمِّلُہٗ مِنْ عَطَآئِكَ قَانِطِیْنَ
WA LAA LEFAZLE MAA NOAMMELOHU MIN A’TAAA-EKA QAANETEENA
or despair of the favor of what we hope from Your gifts.
وَلَاْ تَرُدَّنَا خَائِبِیْنَ وَلَاْ مِنْۢ بَابِكَ مَطْرُوْدِیْنَ
WA LAA TARUDDANAA KHAAA-EBEENA WA LAA MIM BAABEKA MATROODEENA
Do not turns us down disappointed or driven away from Your door.
یَا اَجْوَدَ اْلَاجْوَدِیْنَ
YAA AJWADAL AJWADEENA
O most Magnanimous of all those who treat magnanimously
وَاَكْرَمَ الْاَكْرَمِیْنَ
WA AKRAMAL AKRAMEENA
and most Generous of all those who act generously!
اِلَیْكَ اَقْبَلْنَا مُوْقِنِیْنَ
ELAYKA AQBALNAA MOOQENEENA
To You are we advancing with full conviction
وَلِبَیْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ اٰمِّیْنَ قَاصِدِیْنَ
WA LEBAYTEKAL HARAAME AAMMEENA QAASEDEENA
and to Your Holy House are we betaking ourselves purposefully;
فَاَعِنَّا عَلٰی مَنَاسِكِنَا وَاَكْمِلْ لَنَا حَجَّنَا
FA-A-I’NNAA A’LAA MANAASEKENAA WA AKMIL LANAA HAJJANAA
So, help us do our rituals (perfectly) perfect for us our pilgrimage
وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَعَافِنَا فَقَدْ مَدَدْنَا اِلَیْكَ اَیْدِیَنَا
WA’ FO A’NNAA WA A’AFENAA FAQAD MADADNAA ELAYKA AYDEYANAA
pardon us, and grant us wellbeing. We are stretching our hands toward You;
فَهِیَ بِذِلَّۃِ الْاِعْتِرَافِ مَوْسُوْمَۃٌ
FAHEYA BEZILLATIL E-A’TERAAFE MAWSOOMATUN
so, they are marked by the humiliation of confession.
اَللّٰهُمَّ فَاَعْطِنَا فِیْ ہٰذِهِ الْعَشِیَّۃِ مَا سَئَلْنَاكَ
ALLAAHUMMA FA-A-A’TENAA FEE HAAZEHIL A’SHIYYATE MAA SA-ALNAAKA
O Allah, grant us in this evening that which we have besought from You
وَاكْفِنَا مَا اسْتَكْفَیْنَا
WAK FENAA MAS TAKFAYNAA
and save us from that which we have besought You to save us;
فَلَاْ كَافِیَ لَنَا سِوَاكَ وَلَاْ رَبَّ لَنَا غَیْرُكَ
FALAA KAAFEYA LANAA SEWAAKA WA LAA RABBA LANAA GHAYROKA
for we have no savior but You and we have no sustainer but You.
نَافِذٌ فِیْنَا حُكْمُكَ مُحِیْطٌ بِنَا عِلْمُكَ
NAAFEZUN FEENAA HUKMOKA MOHEETUN BENAA I’LMOKA
Your decree is prevalent on us, Your knowledge is encompassing us,
عَدْلٌ فِیْنَا قَضَآؤُكَ اِقْضِ لَنَا الْخَیْرَ
A’DLUN FEENA QAZAAA-OKA IQZE LANAL KHAYRA
and Your decisions about us is just. (Please) decree for us that which is good
وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ اَهْلِ الْخَیْرِ
WAJ A’LNAA MIN AHLIL KHAYRE
and make us of the people of goodness.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَوْجِبْ لَنَا بِجُوْدِكَ عَظِیْمَ الْاَجْرِ
ALLAAHUMMA AWJIB LANAA BEJOODEKA A’ZEEMAL AJRE
O Allah, decide for us, on account of Your magnanimity, a great reward,
وَكَرِیْمَ الذُّخْرِ وَدَوَامَ الْیُسْرِ
WA KAREEMAZ ZUKHRE WA DAWAAMAL YUSRE
a generous reserve, and a permanent easiness,
وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوْبَنَا اَجْمَعِیْنَ وَلَاْ تُهْلِكْنَا مَعَ الْهَالِكِیْنَ
WAGH FIR LANAA ZONOOBANAA AJMA-E’ENA WA LAA TOHLIKNAA MA-A’L HAALEKEENA
and forgive us all our sins, do not annihilate us with those annihilated,
وَلَاْ تَصْرِفْ عَنَّا رَاْفَتَكَ وَرَحْمَتَكَ
WA LAA TASRIF A’NNAA RAAFATAKA WA RAHMATAKA
and do not drive away from us Your tenderness and mercy;
یَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِیْنَ
YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA
O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا فِیْ ہٰذَا الْوَقْتِ مِمَّنْ سَاَلَكَ فَاَعْطَیْتَہٗ
ALLAAHUMMAJ A’LNAA FEE HAAZAL WAQTE MIMMAN SA-ALAKA FA-A-A’TAYTAHU
O Allah, include us, at this hour, with them who besought You and You thus gave them,
وَشَكَرَكَ فَزِدْتَہٗ
WA SHAKARAKA FAZIDTAHU
who thanked You and You thus increased them,
وَتَابَ اِلَیْكَ فَقَبِلْتَہٗ
WA TAABA ELAYKA FAQABILTAHU
who returned to You and You thus accepted them,
وَتَنَصَّلَ اِلَیْكَ مِنْ ذُنُوْبِہٖ كُلِّهَا فَغَفَرْتَهَا لَہٗ
WA TANASSALA ELAYKA MIN ZONOOBEHI KULLEHAA FAGHAFARTAHAA LAHU
and who renounced all their sins before You and You thus forgave them;
یَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ اَللّٰهُمَّ وَنَقِّنَا وَسَدِّدْنَا
YAA ZAL JALAALE WAL IKRAAME ALLAAHUMMA WA WAFFIQNAA WA SADDIDNAA
O Lord of Majesty and Honor! O Allah, purify us and lead us to success
وَاقْبَلْ تَضَرُّ عَنَا
WAQ BAL TAZARRO A’NNAA
and admit our earnest entreaty;
یَا خَیْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ
YAA KHAYRA MAN SO-ELA
O He Who is the best of all those who are besought
وَیَا اَرْحَمَ مَنِ اسْتُرْحِمَ
WA YAA ARHAMA MANIS TURHEMA
and most Merciful of all those whose mercy is sought!
یَا مَنْ لَاْ یَخْفٰی عَلَیْهِ اِغْمَاضُ الْجُفُوْنِ
YAA MAN LAA YAKHFAA A’LAYHE IGHMAAZUL JOFOONE
O He from Whom the closing of eyelids cannot be hidden,
وَلَاْ لَحْظُ الْعُیُوْنِ وَلَاْ مَا اسْتَقَرَّ فِیْ الْمَكْنُوْنِ
WA LAA LAHZUL O’YOONE WA LAA MAS TAQARRA FIL MAKNOONE
nor are the glances of eyes, nor is that which settles in the unseen,
وَلَاْ مَا انْطَوَتْ عَلَیْهِ مُضْمَرَاتُ الْقُلُوْبِ
WA LAA MAN TAWAT A’LAYHE MUZMARAATUL QOLOOBE
nor are things vanished under the secrets of hearts.
اَلَاْ كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ قَدْ اَحْصَاهُ عِلْمُكَ
ALAA KULLO ZAALEKA QAD AHSAAHO I’LMOKA
Verily, all that has been encompassed by Your knowledge
وَوَسِعَہٗ حِلْمُكَ
WA WASE-A’HU HILMOKA
and covered by Your forbearance.
سُبْحَانَكَ وَتَعَالَیْتَ عَمَّا یَقُوْلُ الظَّلِمُوْنَ
SUBHAANAKA WA TA-A’ALAYTA A’MMA YAQOOLUZ ZAALEMOONA
All glory be to You; and Exalted be You above all that the wrongdoers say,
عُلُوًّا كَبِیْرًا تُسَبِّحُ لَكَ السَّمٰوٰتُ السَّبْعُ
O’LUWWAN KABEERAN TOSABBEHO LAKAS SAMAAWAATUS SAB-O’
in high exaltation! Declaring You glory are the seven heavens,
وَالْاَرَضُوْنَ وَمَنْ فِیْهِنَّ
WAL ARAZOONA WA MAN FEEHINNA
the (layers of the) earth, and all beings therein.
وَاِنْ مِّنْ شَیْءٍ اِلَّا یُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ
WA IM MIN SHAY-IN ILLAA YOSABBEHO BEHAMDEKA
There is not a thing but celebrates Your praise.
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَالْمَجْدُ وَعُلُوُّ الْجَدِّ
FALAKAL HAMDO WAL MAJDO WA O’LUWWUL JADDE
Yours are all praise, glory, and exaltation of majesty.
یَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ وَالْفَصْلِ وَالْاِنْعَامِ
YAA ZAL JALAALE WAL IKRAAME WAL FAZLE WAL IN-A’AME
O Owner of majesty, honor, grace, favoring,
وَالْاَیَادِی الْجِسَامِ وَاَنْتَ الْجَوَادُ الْكَرِیْمُ
WAL AYAADIL JESAAME WA ANTAL JAWAADUL KAREEMUR
and huge bestowals. You are the All-magnanimous, the All-generous,
الرَّؤُفُ الرَّحِیْمُ
RA-OOFUR RAHEEMO
the All-tender, the All-merciful.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اَوْسِعْ عَلَیَّ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ الْحَلَالِ
ALLAAHUMMA AWSE’ A’LAYYA MIN RIZQEKAL HALAALE
O Allah, provide me largely with Your legally gotten sustenance,
وَعَافِنِیْ فِیْ بَدَنِیْ وَدِیْنِیْ
WA A’AFENEE FEE BADANEE WA DEENEE
grant me wellbeing in my body and my faith,
وَاٰمِنْ خَوْفِیْ وَاَعْتِقْ رَقَبَتِیْ مِنَ النَّارِ
WA AAMIN KHAWFEE WA A-A’TIQ RAQABATEE MENAN NAARE
secure my fears, and release me from Hellfire.
اَللّٰهُمَّ لَاْ تَمْكُرْ بِیْ وَلَاْ تَسْتَدْرِجْنِیْ
ALLAAHUMMA LAA TAMKUR BEE WA LAA TASTADRIJNEE
O Allah, do not plan against me, do not draw me near to destruction,
وَلَاْ تَخْدَعْنِیْ
WA LAA TAKH-DA’NEE
do not overreach me,
وَادْرَأْ عَنِّیْ شَرَّ فَسَقَۃِ الْجِنِّ وَاْلاِنْسِ.
WAD RAA A’NNEE SHARRA FASAQATIL JINNE WAL INSE.
and drive away from me the evils of the corruptive Jinn and men.
Imam al-Husain (a.s.) then raised his head and sight to the sky with teary eyes and said with an audible voice:
یَا اَسْمَعَ السَّامِعِیْنَ
YAA ASMA-A’S SAAME-E’ENA
O most Hearing of all those who can hear!
یَا اَبْصَرَ النَّاظِرِیْنَ
YAA ABSARAN NAAZEREENA
O most Seeing of all those who can see!
وَیَا اَسْرَعَ الْحَاسِبِیْنَ
YAA ASRA-A’L HAASEBEENA
And O swiftest of all those who call to account!
وَیَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِیْنَ
WA YAA ARHAMAR RAAHEMEENA
And O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA AALE MOHAMMADENIS
send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
السَّادَۃِ الْمَیَامِیْنَ وَاَسْئَلُكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ حَاجَتِیَ
SAADATIL MAYAAMEENA WA AS-ALOKA ALLAAHUMMA HAAJATEYAL
the auspicious chiefs; and I beseech You for my request
الَّتِیْ اِنْ اَعْطَیْتَنِیْهَا لَمْ یَضُرَّنِیْ مَا مَنَعْتَنِیْ
LATEE IN A-A’TAYTANEEHAA LAM YAZURRANEE MAA MANA’-TANEE
that if You answer, anything else that You reject will not harm me
وَاِنْ مَنَعْتَنِيْهَا لَمْ یَنْفَعُنِیْ مَا اَعْطَیْنَتِیْ
WA IN MANA’TANEEHAA LAM YANFA-O’NEE MAA A-A’TAYTANEE
and if You reject, anything else that You respond will not benefit me.
اَسْئَلُكَ فَكَاكَ رَقَبَتِیْ مِنَ النَّارِ لَاْ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ
AS-ALOKA FAKAAKA RAQABATEE MENAN NAARE LAA ELAAHA ILLAA ANTA
I beseech You for releasing me from Hellfire. There is no god save You,
وَحْدَكَ لَاْ شَرِیْكَ لَكَ لَكَ الْمُلْكُ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ
WAHDAKA LAA SHAREEKA LAKA LAKAL MULKO WA LAKAL HAMDO
only You, there is no partner with You. To You is the kingdom and to You is all praise,
وَاَنْتَ عَلٰی كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرٌ
WA ANTA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEERUN
and You have power over all things.
یَا رَبِّ یَا رَبِّ یَا رَبِّ...
YAA RABBE YAA RABBE YAA RABBE.
O my Lord! O my Lord! O my Lord…
Imam al-Husain (a.s.) then repeated yaa-rabbe so frequently and effectively that he attracted the attentions of all the others who, instead of praying for granting their needs, surrounded Imam al-Husain (a.s.) to listen to him and pray for the response of his supplication. Then, they wept with him. At sunset, they left Mount Arafaat with him.
This is the end of Imam al-Husain (a.s.)’s supplicatory prayer on the Arafat Day according to the narrations of al-Kafami in his book of al-Balad al-Ameen and Allamah al-Majlisi in his book of Zaad al-Maad. As for Sayyid Ibn Taaoos, he, in his book of Iqbal al-Aamaal, adds the following statements to the supplicatory prayer:
اِلٰهِيْ اَنَا الْفَقِيْرُ فِيْ غِنَايَ
ELAAHEE ANAL FAQEERO FEE GHENAAYA
O my God, I am needy despite my richness;
فَكَيْفَ لَاْ اَكُوْنُ فَقِيْرًا فِيْ فَقْرِيْ؟
FAKAYFA LAA AKOONO FAQEERAN FEE FAQREE?
so, how can I not be needy in my neediness?
اِلٰهِيْ اَنَا الْجَاهِلُ فِيْ عِلْمِيْ
ELAAHEE ANAL JAAHELO FEE I’LMEE
O my God, I am ignorant despite my knowledge;
فَكَيْفَ لَاْ اَكُوْنُ جَهُوْلًا فِيْ جَهْلِيْ؟
FAKAYFA LAA AKOONO JAHOOLAN FEE JAHLEE?
so, how can I not be ignorant in my ignorance?
اِلٰهِيْ اِنَّ اخْتِلَافَ تَدْبِيْرِكَ
ELAAHEE INNAKH TELAAFA TADBEEREKA
O my God, the variety of Your regulating of matters
وَسُرْعَةَ طَوَاءِ مَقَادِيْرِكَ
WA SUR-A’TA TAWAAA-E MAQAADEEREKA
and the swiftness of changes in Your ordainments
مَنَعَا عِبَادَكَ الْعَارِفِيْنَ بِكَ عَنِ السُّكُوْنِ اِلٰى عَطَاءٍ
MANA-A’A E’BAADAKAL A’AREFEENA BEKA A’NIS SOKOONE ELAA A’TAAA-IN
have urged Your servants, who recognize You, not to stop at a certain gift
وَالْيَاسِ مِنْكَ فِيْ بَلَاءٍ
WAL YAASE MINKA FEE BALAAA-IN
and not to despair of You in tribulations.
اِلٰهِيْ مِنِّيْ مَا يَلِيْقُ بِلُؤْمِيْ
ELAAHI MINNEE MAA YALEEQO BE-LOAMEE
O my God, coming out of me is that which fits my lowliness;
وَمِنْكَ مَا يَلِيْقُ بِكَرَمِكَ
WA MINKA MAA YALEEQO BEKARAMEKA
but coming from You is that which befits Your nobleness.
اِلٰهِيْ وَصَفْتَ نَفْسَكَ بِاللُّطْفِ وَالرَّافَةِ لِيْ
ELAAHEE WASAFTA NAFSAKA BIL-LUTFE WAR-RAAFATE LEE
O my God, You had ascribed to Yourself gentleness and kindness to me
قَبْلَ وُجُوْدِ ضَعْفِيْ
QABLA WOJOODE ZA’FEE
before the existence of my weakness.
اَفَتَمْنَعُنِيْ مِنْهُمَا بَعْدَ وُجُوْدِ ضَعْفِيْ؟
AFATAMNA-O’NEE MINHOMAA BA’DA WOJOODE ZA’FEE?
Will You deprive me of these two after the emergence of my weakness?
اِلٰهِيْ اِنْ ظَهَرَتِ الْمَحَاسِنُ مِنِّيْ
ELAAHEE IN ZAHARATIL MAHAASENO MINNEE
O my God, if amenities appear in my conduct,
فَبِفَضْلِكَ وَلَكَ الْمِنَّةُ عَلَيَّ
FABE-FAZLEKA WA LAKAL MINNATO A’LAYYA
then that is on account of Your favors and Your conferral on me.
وَاِنْ ظَهَرَتِ الْمَسَاوِىْ مِنِّيْ
WA IN ZAHARATIL MOSAAWEE MINNEE
If evildoings appear in my conduct,
فَبِعَدْلِكَ وَلَكَ الْحُجَّةُ عَلَيَّ
FABE-A’DLEKA WA LAKAL HUJJATO A’LAYYA
then that is still Your justice and You have claim against me.
اِلٰهِيْ كَيْفَ تَكِلُنِيْ وَقَدْ تَكَفَّلْتَ لِيْ؟
ELAAHEE KAYFA TAKELONEE WA QAD TAKAFFALTA LEE?
O my God, how may it be that You abandon me after You have vouched for me?
وَكَيْفَ اَضَامُ وَاَنْتَ النَّاصِرُ لِيْ؟
WA KAYFA AZAAMO WA ANTAN NAASERO LEE?
How may I be aggrieved and You are my support?
اَمْ كَيْفَ اَخِيْبُ وَاَنْتَ الْحَفِيُّ بِيْ؟
AM KAYFA AKHEEBO WA ANTAL HAFIYYO BEE?
How may I be disappointed and You are undertaking my affairs?
هَا اَنَا اَتَوَسَّلُ اِلَيْكَ بِفَقْرِيْ اِلَيْكَ
HAA ANAA ATAWASSALO ELAYKA BE-FAQREE ELAYKA
Here I am begging You by my need for You.
وَكَيْفَ اَتَوَسَّلُ اِلَيْكَ بِمَا هُوَ مَحَالٌ اَنْ يَصِلَ اِلَيْكَ؟
WA KAYFA ATAWASSALO ELAYKA BEMAA HOWA MAHAALUN AN YASELA ELAYKA?
How can I beg You by something that is impossible to reach You?
اَمْ كَيْفَ اَشْكُوْ اِلَيْكَ حَالِيْ وَهُوَ لَاْ يَخْفٰى عَلَيْكَ؟
AM KAYFA ASHKOO ELAYKA HAALEE WA HOWA LAA YAKHFAA A’LAYKA?
How can I complain to You about my manners while they cannot be hidden from You?
اَمْ كَيْفَ اُتَرْجِمُ بِمَقَالِيْ وَهُوَ مِنْكَ بَرَزٌ اِلَيْكَ؟
AM KAYFA OTARJEMO BEMAQAALEE WA HOWA MINKA BARAZUN ELAYKA?
How can I interpret my words while You are their source?
اَمْ كَيْفَ تُخَيِّبُ آمَالِيْ وَهِيَ قَدْ وَفَدَتْ اِلَيْكَ؟
AM KAYFA TOKHAYYEBO AAMAALEE WA HEYA QAD WAFA-DAT ELAYKA?
How come that You may let down my hopes, while they are addressed to You?
اَمْ كَيْفَ لَاْ تُحْسِنُ اَحْوَالِيْ وَبِكَ قَامَتْ
AM KAYFA LAA TOHSENO AHWAALEE WA BEKA QAAMAT
How come that You may not improve my conditions while they are originated by You?
اِلٰهِيْ مَا اَلْطَفَكَ بِيْ مَعَ عَظِيْمِ جَهْلِيْ
ELAAHEE MAA ALTAFAKA BEE MA-A’ A’ZEEME JAHLEE
O my God, how gentle You are to me despite my notorious ignorance!
وَمَا اَرْحَمَكَ بِيْ مَعَ قَبِيْحِ فِعْلِيْ
WA MAA ARHAMAKA BEE MA-A’ QABEEHE FE’LEE
How merciful You are to me despite my hideous deeds!
اِلٰهِيْ مَا اَقْرَبَكَ مِنِّيْ وَاَبْعَدَنِيْ عَنْكَ
ELAAHEE MAA AQRABAKA MINNEE WA AB-A’DANEE A’NKA
O my God, how nigh to me You are and how far from You I am!
وَمَا اَرْاَفَكَ بِيْ فَمَا الَّذِيْ يَحْجُبُنِيْ عَنْكَ؟
WA MAA AR-AFAKA BEE FAMAL LAZEE YAHJOBONEE A’NKA?
How kind to me You are; so, what is that which can prevent me from You?
اِلٰهِيْ عَلِمْتُ بِاخْتِلَافِ الْآثَارِوَتَنَقُّلَاتِ الْاَطْوَارِ
ELAAHEE A’LIMTO BIKHTELAAFIL AASAARE WA TANAQQOLAATIL ATWAARE
O my God, I have known, through variety of signs and changes of phases,
اَنَّ مُرَادَكَ مِنِّيْ اَنْ تَتَعَرَّفَ اِلَيَّ فِيْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
ANNA MORAADAKA MINNEE AN TATA-A’RRAFA ELAYYA FEE KULLE SHAY-IN
that what You want from me is that You introduce Yourself to me in all things
حَتّٰى لَاْ اَجْهَلَكَ فِيْ شَيْءٍ
HATTAA LAA AJ-HALAKA FEE SHAY-IN
so that I will not ignore You in any thing.
اِلٰهِيْ كُلَّمَا اَخْرَسَنِيْ لُؤْمِيْ
ELAAHEE KULLAMAA AKRASANEE LOA-MEE
O my God, whenever my lowliness suppresses my voice,
اَنْطَقَنِيْ كَرَمُكَ
ANTAQANEE KARAMOKA
Your nobility encourages me to speak.
وَكُلَّمَا آيَسَتْنِيْ اَوْصَافِيْ اَطْمَعَتْنِيْ مِنَنُكَ
WA KULLAMAA AAYASATNEE AWSAAFEE AT-MA-A’TNEE MENANOKA
Whenever my features lead me to despair (of You), Your bestowals make me crave for You.
اِلٰهِيْ مَنْ كَانَتْ مَحَاسِنُهٗ مَسَاوِىَ
ELAAHEE MAN KAANAT MAHAASENOHU MASAAWE-YA
O my God, as for he whose good deeds are wrongdoings;
فَكَيْفَ لَاْ تَكُوْنُ مَسَاوِئُهٗ مَسَاوِىَ؟
FAKAYFA LAA TAKOONO MASAAWEEHE MASAAWEYA?
how can his wrongdoings not be wrongdoings?
وَمَنْ كَانَتْ حَقَائِقُهٗ دَعَاوِيَ
WA MAN KAANAT HAQAA-EQOHU DA-A’AWEYA
As for he whose facts are mere claims,
فَكَيْفَ لَاْ تَكُوْنُ دَعَاوَاهُ دَعَاوِيَ؟
FA-KAYFA LAA TAKOONO DA-A’AWEEHE DA-A’AWEYA?
how can his claims not be claims?
اِلٰهِيْ حُكْمُكَ النَّافِذُ وَمَشِيْئَتُكَ الْقَاهِرَةُ
ELAAHEE HUKMOKAN NAAFEZO WA MASHIYYATOKAL QAAHERATO
O my God, Your unstoppable decree and Your surmounting volition
لَمْ يَتْرُكَا لِذِيْ مَقَالٍ مَقَالًا
LAM YATROKAA LE-ZEE MAQAALIN MAQAALAN
have not left any word to be said by any orator
وَلَاْ لِذِيْ حَالٍ حَالًا
WA LAA LE ZEE HAALIN HAALAN
and have not left any manner to be displayed.
اِلٰهِيْ كَمْ مِنْ طَاعَةٍ بَنَيْتُهَا
ELAAHEE KAM MIN TAA-A’TIN BANAYTOHAA
O my God, too many are the acts of obedience that I have prepared
وَحَالَةٍ شَيَّدْتُهَا
WA HAALATIN SHAYYAD-TOHA
and the conducts that I have established,
هَدَمَ اعْتِمَادِيْ عَلَيْهَا عَدْلُكَ
HADAMA’ TEMAADEE A’LAYHAA A’DLOKA
but Your justice has ruined my reliance on these,
بَلْ اَقَالَنِيْ مِنْهَا فَضْلُكَ
BAL AQAALANEE MINHAA FAZLOKA
and, moreover, Your favoring has made me abandon them.
اِلٰهِيْ اِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ
ELAAHEE INNAKA TA’LAMO
O my God, You surely know
اَنِّيْ وَاِنْ لَّمْ تَدُمِ الطَّاعَةُ مِنِّيْ فِعْلًا جَزْمًا
ANNEE WA IL LAM TADOMIT TAA-A’TO MINNEE FE’LAN JAZMAN
that even my obedience (to You) has not lasted in reality,
فَقَدْ دَامَتْ مَحَبَّةً وَعَزْمًا
FAQAD DAAMAT MAHABBATAN WA A’ZMAN
it has lasted in love (for it) and determination (to do it)!
اِلٰهِيْ كَيْفَ اَعْزِمُ وَاَنْتَ الْقَاهِرُ؟
ELAAHEE KAYFA A-A’ZEMO WA ANTAL QAAHERO?
O my God, how can I determine, while You are All-supreme?
وَكَيْفَ لَاْ اَعْزِمُ وَاَنْتَ الْآمِرُ؟
WA KAYFA LAA A-A’ZEMO WA ANTAL AAMERO?
How can I quit determining, while it is Your command (to determine)?
اِلٰهِيْ تَرَدُّدِيْ فِيْ الْآثَارِيُوْجِبُ بُعْدَ الْمَزَارِ
ELAAHEE TARADDODEE FIL AASAARE YOOJEBO BOA’DAL MAZAARE
O my God, my hesitation in (following) Your traces will result in unlikely visitation;
فَاجْمَعْنِيْ عَلَيْكَ بِخِدْمَةٍ تُوْصِلُنِيْ اِلَيْكَ
FAJ-MA’NEE A’LAYKA BEKHIDMATIN TOOSELONEE ELAYKA
so, join me to You through a service that takes me to You.
كَيْفَ يُسْتَدَلُّ عَلَيْكَ بِمَا هُوَ فِيْ وُجُوْدِهٖ مُفْتَقِرٌ اِلَيْكَ؟
KAYFA YUSTADALLO A’LAYKA BEMAA HOWA FEE WOJOODEHEE MUFTAQERUN ELAYKA?
How can You be figured out through that whose existence relies on You?
اَيَكُوْنُ لِغَيْرِكَ مِنَ الظُّهُوْرِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ
A-YAKOONO LEGHAYREKA MENAZ ZOHOORE MAA LAYSA LAKA
Can any thing other than You hold a (kind of) manifestation that You lack
حَتّٰى يَكُوْنَ هُوَ الْمُظْهِرَ لَكَ؟
HATTAA YAKOONA HOWAL MUZHERA LAKA?
and thus it may act as an appearance for You?
مَتٰى غِبْتَ حَتّٰى تَحْتَاجَ اِلٰى دَلِيْلٍ يَدُلُّ عَلَيْكَ؟
MATAA GHIBTA HATTAA TAHTAAJA ELAA DALEELIN YADULLO A’LAYKA?
When have You ever been absent so that You may need something to point to You?
وَمَتٰى بَعُدْتَ حَتّٰى تَكُوْنَ الْآثَارُ هِيَ الَّتِيْ تُوْصِلُ اِلَيْكَ؟
WA MATAA BA-U’DTA HATTAA TAKOONAL AASAARO HEYAL LATEE TOOSELO ELAYKA?
When have You ever been far-off so that traces may lead to You?
عَمِيَتْ عَيْنٌ لَاْ تَرَاكَ عَلَيْهَا رَقِيْبًا
A’MEYAT A’YNUN LAA TARAAKA A’LAYHAA RAQEEBAN
Blind be the eye that cannot see You watching it.
وَخَسِرَتْ صَفْقَةُ عَبْدٍ لَمْ تَجْعَلْ لَهٗ مِنْ حُبِّكَ نَصِيْبًا
WA KHASERAT SAFQATO A’BDIN LAM TAJ-A’L LAHU MIN HUBBEKA NASEEBAN
Losing is a servant’s deal that does not dedicate a share to the love for You.
اِلٰهِيْ اَمَرْتَ بِالرُّجُوْعِ اِلَى الْآثَارِ
ELAAHEE AMARTA BIR-ROJOO-E’ ELAL AASAARE
O my God, You have ordered us to refer to the traces;
فَارْجِعْنِيْ اِلَيْكَ بِكِسْوَةِ الْاَنْوَارِ
FAR-JE’NEE ELAYKA BEKISWATIL ANWAARE
therefore, (please do) make me refer to You with the garb of lights
وَهِدَايَةِ الْاِسْتِبْصَارِ
WA HEDAAYATIL ISTIBSAARE
and the guidance of insight
حَتّٰى اَرْجِعَ اِلَيْكَ مِنْهَا كَمَا دَخَلْتُ اِلَيْكَ مِنْهَا
HATTAA AR-JE-A’ ELAYKA MINHAA KAMAA DAKHALTO ELAYKA MINHAA
so that I will return to You in the same way as I have entered to You from them
مَصُوْنَ السِّرِّ عَنِ النَّظَرِ اِلَيْهَا
MASOONAS SIRRE A’NIN NAZARE ELAYHAA
as being too protected to look at them
وَمَرْفُوْعَ الْهِمَّةِ عَنِ الْاِعْتِمَادِ عَلَيْهَا
WA MARFOO-I’L HIMMATE A’NIL E-A’TEMAADE A’LAYHAA
and too determining to depend upon them,
اِنَّكَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ
INNAKA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEERUN
for You have power over all things.
اِلٰهِيْ هٰذَا ذُلِّيْ ظَاهِرٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ
ELAAHEE HAAZAA ZULLEE ZAAHERUN BAYNA YADAYKA
O my God, this is my humiliation; it manifests itself before You.
وَهٰذَا حَالِيْ لَاْ يَخْفٰى عَلَيْكَ
WA HAAZAA HAALEE LAA YAKHFAA A’LAYKA
This is my manner; it cannot be concealed against You.
مِنْكَ اَطْلُبُ الْوُصُوْلَ اِلَيْكَ
MINKA ATLOBUL WOSOOLA ELAYKA
From You do I beseech soaring to You
وَبِكَ اَسْتَدِلُّ عَلَيْكَ
WA BEKA ASTADILLO A’LAYKA
and through You do I take the way to You.
فَاهْدِنِيْ بِنُوْرِكَ اِلَيْكَ
FAH-DENEE BENOOREKA ELAYKA
So, (please do) guide me to You through Your Light
وَاَقِمْنِيْ بِصِدْقِ الْعُبُوْدِيَّةِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ
WA AQIMNEE BESIDQIL O’BOODIYYATE BAYNA YADAYKA
and make me stand up before Your Hands with the true servitude to You.
اِلٰهِيْ عَلِّمْنِيْ مِنْ عِلْمِكَ الْمَخْزُوْنِ
ELAAHEE A’LLIMNEE MIN I’LMEKAL MAKHZOONE
O my God, teach me from Your veiled knowledge
وَصُنِّيْ بِسِتْرِكَ الْمَصُوْنِ
WA SUNNEE BESITREKAL MASOONE
and protect me with Your shielding shelter.
اِلٰهِيْ حَقِّقْنِيْ بِحَقَائِقِ اَهْلِ الْقُرْبِ
ELAAHEE HAQQIQNEE BE-HAQAAA-EKE AHLIL QURBE
O my God, (please do) grant me the realities that are enjoyed by the people who are near to You
وَاسْلُكْ بِيْ مَسْلَكَ اَهْلِ الْجَذْبِ
WAS LUK BEE MAS-LAKA AHLIL JAZBE
and make me follow the course of the people who are attracted to You.
اِلٰهِيْ اَغْنِنِيْ بِتَدْبِيْرِكَ لِيْ عَنْ تَدْبِيْرِيْ
ELAAHEE AGHNENEE BE-TADBEEREKA LEE A’N TADBEEREE
O my God, make Your management of my affairs replace my management of my affairs,
وَبِاخْتِيَارِكَ عَنِ اخْتِيَارِيْ
WA BIKH-TEYAAREKA A’NIKH TEYAAREE
make Your choice for me replace my choice for myself,
وَاَوْقِفْنِيْ عَلٰى مَرَاكِزِ اضْطِرَارِيْ
WA AWQIFNEE A’LAA MARAAKEZIZ TERAAREE
and make me stop at the points of emergency.
اِلٰهِيْ اَخْرِجْنِيْ مِنْ ذُلِّ نَفْسِيْ
ELAAHEE AKHRIJNEE MIN ZULLE NAFSEE
O my God, (please do) take my out of the humiliation of myself
وَطَهِّرْنِيْ مِنْ شَكِّيْ وَشِرْكِيْ قَبْلَ حُلُوْلِ رَمْسِيْ
WA TAHHIRNEE MIN SHAKKEE WA SHIRKEE QABLA HOLOOLE RAMSEE
and purify me from my suspicion and polytheism before I enter my grave.
بِكَ اَنْتَصِرُ فَانْصُرْنِيْ
BEKA ANTASERO FAN-SURNEE
Only through You do I achieve victory; so, (please do) give me victory.
وَعَلَيْكَ اَتَوَكَّلُ فَلَاْ تَكِلْنِيْ
WA A’LAYKA ATAWAKKALO FALAA TAKILNEE
Only upon You do I rely; so, do not refer me to anyone else.
وَاِيَّاكَ اَسْاَلُ فَلَاْ تُخَيِّبْنِيْ
WA IYYAAKA AS-ALO FALAA TOKHAYYIBNEE
Only You do I beseech; so, do not disappoint me.
وَفِيْ فَضْلِكَ اَرْغَبُ فَلَاْ تَحْرِمْنِيْ
WA FEE FAZLEKA ARGHABO FALAA TAHRIMNEE
Only for Your favors do I desire; so, do not deprive me (of Your favors).
وَبِجَنَابِكَ اَنْتَسِبُ فَلَاْ تُبْعِدْنِيْ
WA BEJANAABEKA ANTASEBO FALAA TUB-I’DNEE
Only to Your side do I resort; so, do not set me aside.
وَبِبَابِكَ اَقِفُ فَلَاْ تَطْرُدْنِيْ
WA BE-BAABEKA AQEFO FALAA TATRUDNEE
At Your door only do I stand; so, do not drive me away.
اِلٰهِيْ تَقَدَّسَ رِضَاكَ اَنْ يَّكُوْنَ لَهٗ عِلَّةٌ مِنْكَ
ELAAHEE TAQADDASA REZAAKA AN-Y YAKOONA LAHU I’LLATUN MINKA
O my God, Your pleasure is too sanctified to receive a defect from You;
فَكَيْفَ يَكُوْنُ لَهٗ عِلَّةٌ مِنِّيْ؟
FA-KAYFA YAKOONO I’LLATUN MINNEE?
hence, how can it receive a defect from me?
اِلٰهِيْ اَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ بِذَاتِكَ اَنْ يَّصِلَ اِلَيْكَ النَّفْعُ مِنْكَ
ELAAHEE ANTAL GHANIYYO BEZAATEKA AN-Y YASELA ELAYKAN NAF-O’ MINKA
O my God, You are too self-sufficient by Yourself to be benefited by Yourself;
فَكَيْفَ لَاْ تَكُوْنُ غَنِيًّا عَنِّيْ؟
FAKAYA LAA TAKOONO GHANIYYAN A’NNEE?
hence, how can You not be self-sufficient from me?
اِلٰهِيْ اِنَّ الْقَضَاءَ وَالْقَدَرَ يُمَنِّيْنِيْ
ELAAHEE INNAL QAZAAA-A WAL QADARE YOMANNEENEE
O my God, fate awakens my hope
وَاِنَّ الْهَوٰى بِوَثَآئِقِ الشَّهْوَةِ اَسَرَنِيْ
WA INNAL HAWAA BEWASAAA-EQISH SHAH-WATE ASARANEE
and whim has enchained me with the firm chains of lust;
فَكُنْ اَنْتَ النَّصِيْرَ لِيْ حَتّٰى تَنْصُرَنِيْ وَتُبَصِّرَنِيْ
FAKUN ANTAN NASEERA LEE HATTAA TANSORANEE WA TOBASSERANEE
so, (please do) be my Supporter so that You shall back me and show me the right path.
وَاَغْنِنِيْ بِفَضْلِكَ
WA AGHNENEE BEFAZLEKA
And (please do) help me (to dispense with anyone else) through Your favors
حَتّٰى اَسْتَغْنِيَ بِكَ عَنْ طَلَبِيْ
HATTAA ASTAGHNEYA BEKA A’N TALABEE
so that I shall depend upon You exclusively in my requests.
اَنْتَ الَّذِي اَشْرَقْتَ الْاَنْوَارَ فِيْ قُلُوْبِ اَوْلِيَائِكَ
ANTAL LAZEE ASHRAQTAL ANWAARA FEE QOLOOBE AWLEYAAA-EKA
It is You Who have lit the illuminations in the hearts of Your intimate servants
حَتّٰى عَرَفُوْكَ وَوَحَّدُوْكَ
HATTAA A’R-AFOOKA WA WAHHADOOKA
so that they have recognized and testified Your Oneness.
وَاَنْتَ الَّذِيْ اَزَلْتَ الْاَغْيَارَ عَنْ قُلُوْبِ اَحِبَّائِكَ
WA ANTAL LAZEE AZALTAL AGHYAARA A’N QOLOOBE AHIBBAAA-EKA
It is You Who have removed love for others from the hearts of Your lovers
حَتّٰى لَمْ يُحِبُّوْا سِوَاكَ وَلَمْ يَلْجَأُوْا اِلٰى غَيْرِكَ
HATTAA LAM YOHIBBOO SEWAAKA WA LAM YAL-JA-OO ELAA GHAYREKA
so that they have loved none save You and they have resorted to none save You.
اَنْتَ الْمُؤْنِسُ لَهُمْ حَيْثُ اَوْحَشَتْهُمُ الْعَوَالِمُ
ANTAL MOONESO LAHUM HAYSO AW HASHAT-HOMUL A’WAALEMO
You alone are entertaining them when they have felt lonely because of the other worlds.
وَاَنْتَ الَّذِيْ هَدَيْتَهُمْ حَيْثُ اسْتَبَانَتْ لَهُمُ الْمَعَالِمُ
WA ANTAL LAZEE HADAYTAHUM HAYSUS TABAANAT LAHOMUL MA-A’ALEMO
You alone have guided them so that all other worlds manifested themselves before them.
مَاذَا وَجَدَ مَنْ فَقَدَكَ؟
MAA ZAA WAJADA MAN FAQADAKA?
What can one who misses You find any substitute?
وَمَا الَّذِيْ فَقَدَ مَنْ وَجَدَكَ؟
WA MAL LAZEE FAQADA MAN WAJADAKA?
What can one who finds You miss anything else?
لَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ رَضِيَ دُوْنَكَ بَدَلًا
LAQAD KHAABA MAN RAZEYA DOONAKA BADALAN
Definitely, failing is he who has accepted anyone other than You as substitute.
وَلَقَدْ خَسِرَ مَنْ بَغٰى عَنْكَ مُتَحَوِّلًا
WA LAQAD KHASERA MAN BAGHAA A’NKA MOTAHAWWELAN
Definitely, loser is he who have desired for anyone other than You.
كَيْفَ يُرْجٰى سِوَاكَ
KAYFA YURJAA SEWAAKA
How can anyone other than You be hoped
وَاَنْتَ مَا قَطَعْتَ الْاِحْسَانَ؟
WA ANTA MAA QATA’TAL EHSAANA?
whilst You have never stopped Your bounties?
وَكَيْفَ يُطْلَبُ مِنْ غَيْرِكَ
WA KAYFA YUTLABO MIN GHAYREKA
How can anyone other than You be besought
وَاَنْتَ مَا بَدَّلْتَ عَادَةَ الْاِمْتِنَانِ؟
WA ANTA MAA BADDALTA A’ADATAL IMTENAANE?
whilst You have never changed Your habit of ceaseless bestowal?
يَا مَنْ اَذَاقَ اَحِبَّائَهٗ حَلَاوَةَ الْمُؤَانَسَةِ
YAA MAN A-ZAAQA AHIBBAAA-AHU HALAAWATAL MOAANASATE
O He Who has made His lovers the sweet taste of entertainment;
فَقَامُوْا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُتَمَلِّقِيْنَ
FAQAMOO BAYNA YADAYHE MOTAMALLEQEENA
therefore, they have stood up before Him flattering Him!
وَيَا مَنْ اَلْبَسَ اَوْلِيَآءَهُ مَلَابِسَ هَيْبَتِهٖ
WA YAA MAN ALBASA AWLEYAAA-AHU MALAABESA HAYBATEHI
O He Who has dressed His intimate servants the garments of fearing Him;
فَقَامُوْا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُسْتَغْفِرِيْنَ
FAQAAMOO BAYNA YADAYHE MUSTAGHFEREENA
therefore, they have stood before Him seeking His forgiveness!
اَنْتَ الذَّاكِرُ قَبْلَ الذَّاكِرِيْنَ
ANTAZ ZAAKERO QABLAZ ZAAKEREENA
You do mention the others (with bounties) before they mention You.
وَاَنْتَ الْبَادِئُ بِالْاِحْسَانِ قَبْلَ تَوَجُّهِ الْعَابِدِيْنَ
WA ANTAL BAADEE BIL-EHSAANE QABLA TAWAJJOHIL A’ABEDEENA
You do spread Your compassion before the worshippers direct towards You.
وَاَنْتَ الْجَوَادُ بِالْعَطَاءِ قَبْلَ طَلَبِ الطَّالِبِيْنَ
WA ANTAL JAWAADO BIL-A’TAA-E QABLA TALABIT TAALEBEENA
You do give generously before You are asked.
وَاَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ ثُمَّ لِمَا وَهَبْتَ لَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْتَقْرِضِيْنَ
WA ANTAL WAHHAABO SUMMA LEMAA WAHABTA LANAA MENAL MUSTAQREZEENA
You do bestow upon us and then borrow from us that which You have bestowed upon us.
اِلٰهِيْ اُطْلُبْنِيْ بِرَحْمَتِكَ حَتّٰى اَصِلَ اِلَيْكَ
ELAAHEE UTLUBNEE BE-RAHMATEKA HATTAA A-SELA ELAYKA
O my God, (please do) refer to me with Your mercy so that I will appear before You.
وَاجْذِبْنِيْ بِمَنِّكَ حَتّٰى اُقْبِلَ عَلَيْكَ
WAJ ZIBNEE BEMANNEKA HATTAA UQBELA A’LAYKA
draw me towards You through Your endless favoring so that I will advance to You.
اِلٰهِيْ اِنَّ رَجَائِي لَاْ يَنْقَطِعُ عَنْكَ وَاِنْ عَصَيْتُكَ
ELAAHEE INNA RAJAAA-EE LAA YANQATE-O’ A’NKA WA IN A’SAYTOKA
O my God, verily, my hope for You does not cease despite that I may disobey You.
كَمَا اَنَّ خَوْفِيْ لَاْ يُزَايِلُنِيْ وَاِنْ اَطَعْتُكَ
KAMAA ANNA KHAWFEE LAA YOZAAYELONEE WA IN A-TA’TOKA
Similarly, my fear from You does not leave me even if I obey You.
فَقَدْ دَفَعَتْنِيَ الْعَوَالِمُ اِلَيْكَ
FAQAD DA-FA-A’TNIL A’WAALEMO ELAYKA
The Worlds have pushed me towards You
وَقَدْ اَوْقَعَنِيْ عِلْمِيْ بِكَرَمِكَ عَلَيْكَ
WA QAD AWQA-A’NEE I’LMEE BEKARAMEKA A’LAYKA
and my acquaintance with Your magnanimity has led me to You.
اِلٰهِيْ كَيْفَ اَخِيْبُ وَاَنْتَ اَمَلِيْ؟
ELAAHEE KAYFA AKHEEBO WA ANTA AMALEE?
O my God, how can I fail whilst You are my hope?
اَمْ كَيْفَ اُهَانُ وَعَلَيْكَ مُتَّكَلِيْ؟
AM KAYFA OHAANO WA A’LAYKA MUTTAKALEE?
How can I be humiliated whilst I depend upon You?
اِلٰهِيْ كَيْفَ اَسْتَعِزُّ وَفِيْ الذِّلَّةِ اَرْكَزْتَنِيْ؟
ELAAHEE KAYFA ASTA-I’ZZO WA FIZ ZILLATE ARKAZTANEE?
How can see dignity if You fix me in humiliation?
اَمْ كَيْفَ لَاْ اَسْتَعِزُّ وَاِلَيْكَ نَسَبْتَنِيْ؟
AM KAYFA LAA AS-TAI’ZZO WA ELAYKA NASABTANEE?
How can I not see dignity whilst You have referred me to You?
اِلٰهِيْ كَيْفَ لَاْ اَفْتَقِرُ وَاَنْتَ الَّذِيْ فِيْ الْفُقَرَاءِ اَقَمْتَنِيْ؟
ELAAHEE KAYFA LAA AFTAQERO WA ANTAL LAZEE FIL FOQARAAA-E AQAMTANEE?
O my God, how can I not be needy whilst it is You Who have lodged me among the needy?
اَمْ كَيْفَ اَفْتَقِرُ وَاَنْتَ الَّذِيْ بِجُوْدِكَ اَغْنَيْتَنِيْ؟
AM KAYFA AFTAQERO WA ANTAL LAZEE BEJOODEKA AGHNAYTANEE?
How can I be needy whilst You have made me rich out of Your magnanimity?
وَاَنْتَ الَّذِيْ لَاْ اِلٰهَ غَيْرُكَ
WA ANTAL LAZEE LAA ELAAHA GHAYROKA
It is You, there is no god save You,
تَعَرَّفْتَ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ فَمَا جَهِلَكَ شَيْءٌ
TA-A’RRAFTA LEKULLE SHAY-IN FAMAA JAHELAKA SHAY-UN
Who have introduced Yourself to all things; therefore, nothing has ever ignored You.
وَاَنْتَ الَّذِيْ تَعَرَّفْتَ اِلَيَّ فِيْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
WA ANTAL LAZEE TA-A’RRAFTA ELAYYA FEE KULLE SHAY-IN
It is You Who have introduced Yourself to me in all things;
فَرَاَيْتُكَ ظَاهِرًا فِيْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
FARA-AYTOKA ZAAHERAN FEE KULLE SHAY-IN
therefore, I have seen You Manifest in all things.
وَاَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ
WA ANTAZ ZAAHERO LEKULLE SHAY-IN
It is You Who give manifestation to all things.
يَا مَنِ اسْتَوَىٰ بِرَحْمَانِيَّتِهٖ
YAA MANIS TAWAA BERAHMAANIYYATEHI
O He Who is firm in power through His All-beneficence;
فَصَارَ الْعَرْشُ غَيْبًا فِيْ ذَاتِهٖ
FASAARAL A’RSHO GHAYBAN FEE ZAATEHI
therefore, the Throne has become unseen in His Essence.
مَحَقْتَ الْآثَارَ بِالْآثَارِ
MAHAQ-TAL AASAARA BIL-AASAARE
You have erased the traces by the traces;
وَمَحَوْتَ الْاَغْيَارَ بِمُحِيْطَاتِ اَفْلَاكِ الْاَنْوَارِ
WA MAHAW-TAL AGHYAARA BEMOHEETAATE AFLAAKIL ANWAARE
and You have erased the changeable by the surroundings of the orbits of lights.
يَا مَنِ احْتَجَبَ فِيْ سُرَادِقَاتِ عَرْشِهٖ
YAA MANEH TAJABA FEE SORAADEQAATE A’RSHEHI
O He Who has screened Himself in the curtains of His Throne;
عَنْ اَنْ تُدْرِكَهُ الْاَبْصَارُ
A’N AN TUDREKAHUL ABSAARO
hence, He cannot be comprehended by visions!
يَا مَنْ تَجَلّٰى بِكَمَالِ بَهَائِهٖ
YAA MAN TAJALLAA BEKAMAALE BAHAAA-EHI
O He Who has manifested Himself with His perfect Magnificence;
فَتَحَقَّقَتْ عَظَمَتُهٗ مِنَ الْاِسْتِوَاءِ
FATAHAQQAQAT A’ZAMATOHUL ISTEWAAA-E
therefore, His Grandeur of being firm in power.
كَيْفَ تَخْفٰى وَاَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ؟
KAYFA TAKHFAA WA ANTAZ ZAAHERO?
How can You be hidden whilst You are the Manifester (of all things)?
اَمْ كَيْفَ تَغِيْبُ
AM KAYFA TAGHEEBO
Or how can You be absent whilst You are the Watcher (over all things)
وَاَنْتَ الرَّقِيْبُ الْحَاضِرُ؟
WA ANTAR RAQEEBUL HAAZERO?
and the Present (at all times.)
اِنَّكَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ
INNAKA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEERUN
Verily, You have power over all things.
وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَحْدَهٗ
WAL HAMDO LILLAAHE WAHDAHU.
All praise be to Allah alone.
