Dua-e-Abu Hamzah Sumali

Text and Translation

In Misbah al-Mutahajjid, it has been narrated on the authority of Abu-Hamzah al-Sumali that Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-’Abidin (a.s.) used to offer prayers at the nights of Ramazan wholly. At the last hour of Ramazan nights, he used to say the following supplicatory prayer:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْم

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

اِلٰهِیْ لَا تُؤَدِّبْنِیْ بِعُقُوْبَتِكَ

O Allah, do not discipline me through Your Punishment,

وَلَا تَمْكُرْ بِیْ فِیْ حِیْلَتِكَ

and do not scheme against me with Your schemes,

مِنْ اَیْنَ لِیَ الْخَیْرُ یَا رَبِّ

How can I attain goodness, O Lord,

وَلَا یُوْجَدُ اِلَّا مِنْ عِنْدِكَ

while it is not found except with You

وَمِنْ اَیْنَ لِیَ النَّجَاۃُ؟

And from where will my salvation come?

وَلَا تُسْتَطَاعُ اِلَّا بِكَ؟

while it can only be attained through You?

لَا الَّذِیْ اَحْسَنَ اسْتَغْنٰی عَنْ عَوْنِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ

Neither he who has done righteous deeds is needless of Your aid and mercy

وَلَا الَّذِی اَسَآءَ وَاجْتَرَءَ عَلَیْكَ وَلَمْ یُرْضِكَ خَرَجَ عَنْ قُدْرَتِكَ

nor can the one who has sinned and shown daring against you, and did not please You, escape from the scope of Your Power.

یَا رَبِّ یَا رَبِّ یَا رَبِّ…

O Lord, O Lord, O Lord......

Repeat this phrase as many times as possible in one breath.

Then say:

بِكَ عَرَفْتُكَ

Through You have I known You

وَاَنْتَ دَلَلْتَنِیْ عَلَیْكَ وَدَعَوْتَنِیَ اِلَیْكَ

And You guided me to You and called me towards You

وَلَوْ لَا اَنْتَ لَمْ اَدْرِمَا اَنْتَ

If it were not for You, I would not have known what You are

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ اَدْعُوْهُ فَیُجِیْبُنِیْ

All praise is due to Allah, upon whom I call, and He responds to me,

وَاِنْ كُنْتُ بَطِٓیْئًا حِیْنَ یَدْعُوْنِیْ

Even though I am slow (in responding) when He calls on me.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ اَسْئَلُهٗ فَیُعْطِیْنِیْ

All praise is due to Allah, whom I ask, and He gives me,

وَاِنْ كُنْتُ بَخِیْلًا حِیْنَ یَسْتَقْرِضُنِیْ

Even though I am stingy when He asks me (to give for the sake of God)

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ اُنَادِیْهِ كُلَّمَا شِئْتُ لِحَاجَتِیْ

All praise is due to Allah, upon whom I call for my needs whenever I wish,

وَاَخْلُوْ بِهٖ حَیْثُ شِئْتُ لِسِرِّیْ بِغَیْرِ شَفِیْعٍ

And with whom I converse in confidence whenever I want, without any intercessor,

فَیَقْضِیْ لِیْ حَاجَتِیْ

And He grants my need.

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ لَا اَدْعُوْ غَیْرَهٗ

All praise is due to Allah- I do not call on other than He,

وَلَوْ دَعَوْتُ غَیْرَهٗ لَمْ یَسْتَجِبْ لِیْ دُعَآئِیْ

and if I called on other than He, they would not answer my prayers.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ لَا اَرْجُوْ غَیْرَهٗ

All praise is due to Allah - I do not hope in other than He,

وَلَوْ رَجَوْتُ غَیْرَهٗ لَاَخْلَفَ رَجَآئِیْ

and if I did hope in other than He, they would disappoint me.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ وَكَلَنِیْ اِلَیْهِ فَاَكْرَمَنِیْ

All praise is due to Allah, who entrusted me to Himself, and thus honoured me,

وَلَمْ یَكِلْنِیْ اِلَی النَّاسِ فَیُهِیْنُوْنِیْ

And did not entrust me to people so that they would belittle me.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ تَحَبَّبَ اِلَیَّ وَهُوَ غَنِیٌّ عَنِّیْ

All praise be to Allah alone Who endears Himself to me, while He is Needless of me.

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِیْ یَحْلُمُ عَنِّیْ

All praise is due to Allah, who is forbearing with me,

حَتّٰی كَاَنِّیْ لَا ذَنْبَ لِیْ

To the extent that it is as if I have no sins.

فَرَبِّیْ اَحْمَدُ شَیْءٍ عِنْدِیْ

Accordingly, my Lord is the only One Whom I should thank,

وَاَحَقُّ بِحَمْدِیْ

and He is the worthiest of being praised by me.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَجِدُ سُبُلَ الْمَطَالِبِ اِلَیْكَ مُشْرَعَۃً

O Allah, I find paths towards asking You are set out,

وَمَنَاهِلَ الرَّجَآءِ اِلَیْكَ مُتْرَعَۃً

And the springs of hope in You are overflowing,

وَالْاِسْتَعَانَۃَ بِفَضْلِكَ لِمَنْ اَمَّلَكَ مُبَاحَۃً

And seeking help through Your Beneficence for those who hope in You is open to everyone,

وَاَبْوَابَ الدُّعَآءِ اِلَیْكَ لِلصَّارِخِیْنَ مَفْتُوْحَۃً

and the doors of praying to You are open for those crying out for help.

وَاَعْلَمُ اَنَّكَ لِلرّٰجِیْ بِمَوْضِعِ اِجَابَۃٍ

I know that You are ever-responsive to those who hope in You,

وَلِلْمَلْهُوْفِیْنَ بِمَرْصَدِ اِغَاثَۃِ

and ever on the look-out to rescue those who are yearning (for You)

وَاَنَّ فِی اللَّهْفِ اِلٰی جُوْدِكَ

and in desiring Your Generosity,

وَالرِّضَا بِقَضَآئِكَ

and being pleased with Your decree,

عِوَضًا مِنْ مَنْعِ الْبَاخِلِیْنَ

There is good compensation in lieu of what the stingy withhold

وَمَنْدُوْحَۃً عَمَّا فِیْ اَیْدِیْ الْمُسْتَاثِرِیْنَ

and alternative to that which is in the hands of monopolists

وَاَنَّ الرَّاحِلَ اِلَیْكَ قَرِیْبُ الْمَسَافَۃِ

(My Lord), the one travelling towards has only a short distance (to traverse)

وَاَنَّكَ لَا تَحْتَجِبُ عَنْ خَلْقِكَ

And You do not conceal Yourself from Your creation,

اِلَّا اَنْ تَحْجُهُمُ الْاَعْمَالُ دُوْنَكَ

unless their deeds veil them from You.

وَقَدْ قَصَدْتُ اِلَیْكَ بِطَلِبَتِیْ

I have turned towards You with my request,

وَتَوَجَّهْتُ اِلَیْكَ بِحَاجَتِیْ

And directed myself towards You with my need,

وَجَعَلْتُ بِكَ اسْتِغَاثَتِیْ

I have made my plea for help only to You,

وَبِدُعَآئِكَ تَوَسُّلِیْ

And (made my only) means praying to You,

مِنْ غَیْرِ اسْتِحْقَاقٍ لاِسْتِمَاعِكَ مِنِّیْ

although I do not deserve to be heard by You,

وَلَا اسْتِیْجَابٍ لِعَفْوِكَ عَنِّیْ

And have no reason for You to forgive me,

بَلْ لِثِقَتِیْ بِكَرَمِكَ

But (I have turned to You) because of my confidence in Your Magnanimity,

وَسُكُوْنِیْ اِلٰی صِدْقِ وَعْدِكَ

Seeking refuge in the Truth of Your Promise

وَلَجَائِیْ اِلَي الْاِیْمَانِ بِتَوْحِیْدِكَ

And shelter in my faith in Your Oneness

وَیَقِیْنِیْ بِمَعْرِفَتِكَ مِنِّیْ

and my certainty that You know about me

اَنْ لَا رَبَّ لِیْ غَیْرُكَ

that I have no lord other than You

وَلَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ

and no god other than You,

وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِیْكَ لَكَ

Unique, without any partner,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَنْتَ الْقَائِلُ وَقَوْلُكَ حَقٌّ

O Allah, It is You Who have said, and Your statements are Truth,

وَوَعْدُكَ صِدْقٌ

and Your promise is always true,

وَاسْئَلُوا اللهَ مِنْ فِضْلِهٖ

“Ask Allah of His bounty.

اِنَّ اللهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِیْمًا

Surely Allah is Knowledgeable of all things.”

وَلَیْسَ مِنْ صِفَاتِكَ یَا سَیدِیْ

It is not among Your traits, my Master,

اَنْ تَاْمُرَ بِالسُّؤَالِ وَتَمْنَعَ الْعَطِیَّۃَ

that You command (us) to ask, but then withhold from giving,

وَاَنْتَ الْمَنَّانُ بِالْعَطِیَّاتِ عَلٰی اَهْلِ مَمْلَكَتِكَ

while You are The Benefactor Who confers blessings upon the inhabitants of His Dominion.

وَالْعَآئِدُ عَلَیْهِمْ بِتَحَنُّنِ رَافَتِكَ

and constantly turns them with His Kindness and Compassion

اِلٰهی رَبَّیْتَنِیْ فِیْ نِعَمِكَ وَاِحْسَانِكَ صَغِیْرًا

O my Allah, You brought me up amid Your bounties and favours when I was little

وَنَوَّهْتَ بِاسْمِیْ كَبِیْرًا

And alluded to me when I grew up

فَیَا مَنْ رَبَّانِیْ فِی الدُّنْیَا بِاِحْسَانِهٖ وَتَفَضُّلِهٖ وَنِعَمِهٖ

O He Who brought me up in this world with His Goodness, Favours and blessings,

وَاَشَارَ لِیْ فِی الْاَخِرَۃِ اِلٰی عَفْوِهٖ وَكَرَمِهٖ

and, in the Hereafter, directed me to His Forgiveness and Generosity,

مَعْرِفَتِیْ یَا مَوْلاَیَ دَلِیْلِیْ عَلَیْكَ

My knowledge of You, O my Lord, is my guide to You

وَحُبِّیْ لَكَ شَفِیْعِیْ اِلَیْكَ

and my love for You is my intercessor towards You,

وَاَنَا وَاثِقٌ مِنْ دَلِیْلِیْ بِدَلَالَتِكَ

I am sure of my guide, by Your guidance,

وَسَاكِنٌ مِنْ شَفِیْعِیْ اِلٰی شَفَاعَتِكَ

and I rely upon my intercessor’s success before You.

اَدْعُوْكَ یَا سَیِّدِیْ بِلِسَانٍ قَدْ اَخْرَسَهٗ ذَنْبُهٗ

I call upon You, my Master, with a tongue whose sins have it mute,

رَبِّ اُنَاجِیْكَ بِقَلْبٍ قَدْ اَوْبَقَهٗ جُرْمُهٗ

My Lord, I whisper to You with a heart whose crime have destroyed it,

اَدْعُوْكَ یَا رَبِّ رَاهِبًا رَاغِبًا

I call upon You, my Lord, with both fear and desire,

رَاجِیًا خَآئِفًا

(I am both) Hopeful and fearful.

اِذَا رَاَیْتُ مَوْلَایَ ذُنُوْبِیْ فَزِعْتُ

When I see my sins, my Master, I am terrified,

وَاِذَا رَاَیْتُ كَرَمَكَ طَمِعْتُ

but when I see Your generosity, I feel desirous (for Your pardon).

فَاِنْ عَفَوْتَ فَخَیْرُ رَاحِمٍ

If You forgive, then You are the best of those who show mercy,

وَاِنْ عَذَّبْتَ فَغَیْرُ ظَالِمٍ

and if You punish, You are not an oppressor.

حُجَّتِیْ یَا اَللهُ فِیْ جُرْاَتِیْ عَلٰی مَسْئَلَتِكَ

That which gives me the daring to ask You, O Allah

مَعَ اِتْیَانِیْ مَا تَكْرَهُ جُوْدُكَ وَكَرَمُكَ

despite my having committed that which You detest is Your Generosity and Magnanimity,

وَعُدَّتِیْ فِیْ شِدَّتِیْ مَعَ قِلَّۃِ حَیَآئِیْ رَافَتُكَ وَرَحْمَتُكَ

And my means in times of hardship, despite my lack of shyness, is Your Compassion and Mercy.

وَقَدْ رَجَوْتُ اَنْ لَا تَخِیْبَ بَیْنَ ذَیْنِ وَذَیْنِ مُنْیَتِیْ

And I hope that my hope will not be disappointed amid these two matters (Your Generosity and Your Mercy)

فَحَقِّقْ رَجَآئِیْ

So, make my hopes come true,

وَاسْمَعْ دُعَآئِیْ

and hear my prayers,

یَا خَیْرَ مَنْ دَعَاهُ دَاعٍ

For You are the best of those who are asked,

وَاَفْضَلَ مَنْ رَجَاهُ رَاجٍ

and the best of those in whom people hope.

عَظُمَ یَا سَیِّدِیْ اَمَلِیْ وَسَآءَ عَمَلِیْ

My Master, my hope is great while my actions are bad,

فَاَعْطِنِیْ مِنْ عَفْوِكَ بِمِقْدَارِ اَمَلِیْ

So, grant me of Your pardon in accordance with my hope,

وَلَا تُؤَاخِذْنِیْ بِاَسْوَءِ عَمَلِیْ

and do not take me to account by the worst of my deeds.

فَاِنَّ كَرَمَكَ یَجِلُّ عَنْ مُجَازَاۃِ الْمُذْنِبِیْنَ

For Your Generosity is more exalted than to punish the sinners,

وَحِلْمَكَ یَكْبُرُ عَنْ مُكَافَاۃِ الْمُقَصِّرِیْنَ

and Your forbearance is greater than to recompense those with shortcomings.

وَاَنَا یَا سَیِّدِیْ عَآئِذٌ بِفَضْلِكَ

I, my Master, am seeking refuge with Your Favour,

هَارِبٌ مِنْكَ اِلَیْكَ

fleeing from You towards You,

مُتَنَجِّزٌ مَا وَعَدْتُ مِنَ اصَّفْحِ عَمَنَّ اَحْسَنَ بِكَ ظَنًّا

hoping for the amnesty that You have promised to give those who have good hope in You.

وَمَا اَنَا یَا رَبِّ وَمَا خَطَرِیْ؟

What am I? O Lord! What importance do I have?

هَبْنِیْ بِفَضْلِكَ

Grant me through Your benevolence

وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَیَّ بِعَفْوِكَ

and be charitable to me by means of Your pardon.

اَیْ رَبِّ جَلِّلْنِیْ بِسِتْرِكَ

O my Lord! Cover me with Your protective covering,

وَاعْفُ عَنْ تَوْبِیْخِیْ بِكَرَمِ وَجْهِكَ

and pardon me from reproach, by the Honour of Your Face.

فَلَوِاطَّلَعَ الْیَوْمَ عَلٰی ذَنْبِیْ غَیْرُكَ مَا فَعَلْتُهٗ

For anyone other than You was aware of my sin today, I would no have performed it,

وَلَوْ خِفْتُ تَعْجِیْلَ الْعُقُوْبَۃِ لَاجْتَنَبْتُهٗ

And if had I anticipated a quick punishment, I would have avoided it.

لَا لِاَنَّكَ اَهْوَنُ النَّاظِرِیْنَ اِلَيَّ

Not because You are the least important of those who watch over me

وَاَخَفُّ الْمُطَّلِعِیْنَ عَلَيَّ

or because You are the least weighty of those who observe me,

بَلْ لِاَنَّكَ یَا رَبِّ خَیْرُ السَّاتِرِیْنَ

But because You, O my Lord, are the Best Concealer

وَاَحْكَمُ الْحَاكِمِیْنَ

The Most Wise,

وَاَكْرَمُ الْاَكْرَمِیْنَ

The Most Generous

سَتَّارُ الْعُیُوْبِ

The Concealer of defects,

غَفَّارُ الذُّنُوْبِ

The Forgiver of sins,

عَلاَّمُ الْغُیُوْبِ

The Knower of the unseen.

تَسْتُرُ الذَّنْبَ بِكَرَمِكَ

You conceal the sin out of Your Magnanimity,

وَتُؤَخِّرُ الْعُقُوْبَۃَ بِحِلْمِكَ

and put off punishment out of Your Forbearance.

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلٰی حِلْمِكَ بَعْدَ عِلْمِكَ

All praise is due to You, for Your Forbearance despite Your Knowledge

وَعَلٰی عَفْوِكَ بَعْدَ قُدْرَتِكَ

and for Your pardon despite Your Power,

وَیَحْمِلُنِیْ وَیُجَرِّئُنِیْ عَلٰی مَعْصِیَتِكَ حِلْمُكَ عَنِّیْ

It is Your forbearance towards me that gives me the daring to disobey You,

وَیَدْعُوْنِیْ اِلٰی قِلَّۃِ الْحَیَآءِ سِتْرُكَ عَلَیَّ

It is Your concealment (of my faults) that leads me to lack of shyness.

وَیُسْرِعَنِیْ اِلَی التَّوَثُّبِ عَلٰی مَحَارِمِكَ مَعْرِفَتِیْ بِسَعَۃِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَعَظِیْمِ عَفْوِكَ

It is my knowledge of the expanse of Your Mercy and the Greatness of Your Pardon that causes me to hasten in leaping towards what You have made forbidden.

یَا حَلِیْمُ یَا كَرِیْمُ

O Forbearing! O Generous!

یَا حَیُّ یَا قَیُّوْمُ

O the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists

یَا غَافِرَ الذَّنْبِ

O Forgiver of sins!

یَا قَابِلَ التَّوْبِ

O Accepter of repentance!

یَا عَظِیْمَ الْمَنِّ

O Bestower of great favours!

یَا قَدِیْمَ الْاِحْسَانِ

O He whose goodness has always been present,

اَیْنَ سِتْرُكَ الْجَمِیْلُ

Where is Your beautiful concealment?

اَیْنَ عَفْوُكَ الْجَلِیْلُ

Where is Your exalted pardon?

اَیْنَ فَرَجُكَ الْقَرِیْبُ

Where is Your imminent relief?

اَیْنَ غِیَاثُكَ السَّرِیْعُ

Where is Your quick rescue?

اَیْنَ رَحْمَتُكَ الْوَاسِعَۃُ

Where is Your expansive mercy?

اَینَ عَطَایَاكَ الْفَاضِلَۃُ

Where are Your honourable bounties?

اَیْنَ مَوَاهِبُكَ الْهَنِیْئَۃُ

Where are Your pleasant endowments?

اَیْنَ صَنَائِعُكَ السَّنِیَّۃُ

Where are sublime acts?

اَیْنَ فَضْلُكَ الْعَظِیْمُ

Where is Your great favour?

اَیْنَ مَنُّكَ الْجَسِیْمُ

Where are Your huge bounties?

اَیْنَ اِحْسَانُكَ الْقَدِیْمُ

Where is Your eternal goodness?

اَیْنَ كَرَمُكَ یَا كَرِیْمُ

Where is Your Generosity, O Generous?

بِهٖ (بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ) فَاسْتَنْقِذْنِیْ

By it (Your Generosity) and by Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) and the family of Muhammad (a.s.) save me,

وَبِرَحْمَتِكَ فَخَلِّصْنِیْ

And by Your Mercy rescue me.

یَا مُحْسِنُ یَا مُجْمِلُ

O Beneficent! O Benevolent!

یَا مُنْعِمُ یَا مُفْضِلُ

O Gracious! O Compassionate!

لَسْتُ اَتَّكِلُ فِی النَّجَاۃٍ مِنْ عِقَابِكَ عَلٰی اَعْمَالِنَا

In seeking salvation from Your punishment, I do not rely upon our deeds;

بَلْ بِفَضْلِكَ عَلَیْنَا

rather, I depend on Your Grace towards us

لِاَنَّكَ اَهْلُ التَّقْوٰی وَاَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَۃِ

because You are the Lord of righteousness and the Lord of forgiveness.

تُبْدِیْ بِالْاِحْسَانِ نِعَمًا

You take the initiative in doing good out of Your graciousness

وَتَعْفُوْ عَنِ الذَّنْۢبِ كَرَمًا

and pardon sins out of Your generosity.

فَمَا نَدْرِیْ مَا نَشْكُرُ

We do not know what we should be thankful for

اَجَمِیْلَ مَا تَنْشُرُ اَمْ قَبِیْحَ مَا تَنْشُرُ

The beauty of that which You make apparent, or the ugliness of that which You conceal,

اَمْ عَظِیْمَ مَا اَبْلَیْتَ وَاَوْلَیْتَ

(We do not know what we should be thankful for) the great trials (you test us with) and trusts (that you entrust us with)

اَمْ كَثِیْرَ مَا مِنْهُ نَجَّیْتَ وَعَافَیْتَ

or the numerous (misfortunes) from which You have saved and relieved?

یَا حَبِیْبَ مَنْ تَحَبَّبَ اِلَیْكَ

O Beloved of those who endear themselves to Him,

وَیَا قُرَّۃَ عَیْنِ مَنْ لَاذَبِكَ وَانْقَطَعَ اِلَیْكَ

O delight of the eyes of those who resort to Him and devote themselves to Him,

اَنْتَ الْمُحْسِنُ وَنَحْنُ الْمُسِیْئُوْنَ

You are the Benevolent and we are the evil-doers,

فَتَجَاوَزْ یَا رَبِّ عَنْ قَبِیْحِ مَا عِنْدَنَا بِجَمِیْلِ مَا عِنْدَكَ

So, overlook, O Lord, our detestable (actions) with Your Goodness,

وَاَیُّ جَهْلٍ یَا رَبِّ لَا یَسَعُهٗ جُوْدُكَ

And what ignorance, my Lord, is not encompassed by Your Magnanimity?

اَوْ اَیُّ زَمَانٍ اَطْوَلُ مِنْ اَنَاتِكَ

And what period is long than Your Forbearance?

وَمَا قَدْرُ اَعْمَالِنَا فِیْ جَنْۢبِ نِعَمِكَ

And what value do our actions have in comparison to Your Blessings?

وَكَیْفَ نَسْتَكْثِرُ اَعْمَالًا نُقَابِلُ بِهَا كَرَمَكَ

How can we deem any deeds great when we compare them to Your Generosity?

بَلْ كَیْفَ یَضِیْقُ عَلَی الْمُذْنِبِیْنَ مَا وَسِعَهُمْ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ

Moreover, how can Your encompassing Mercy become narrow for the sinners?

یَا وَاسِعَ الْمَغْفِرَۃِ

O the One whose Forgiveness is All-Encompassing,

یَا بَاسِطَ الْیَدَیْنِ بِالرَّحْمَۃِ

And Who opens both hands with Mercy,

فَوَ عِزَّتِكَ یَا سَیِّدِیْ

So I swear by Your Glory, my Lord,

لَوْ نَهَرْتَنِیْ مَا بَرِحْتُ مِنْ بَابِكَ

even if you reproach me, I shall never depart from Your door,

وَلَا كَفَفْتُ عَنْ تَمَلُّقِكَ

and I shall never stop praising You

لِمَا انْتَهٰی اِلَیَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرِفَۃِ بِجُوْدِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

Because of the certainty I have come to about Your Generosity and Magnanimity,

وَاَنْتَ الْفَاعِلُ لِمَا تَشَآءُ

Verily, You do whatever You will,

تُعَذِّبُ مَنْ تَشَآءُ بِمَا تَشَآءُ كَیْفَ تَشَآءُ

You punish whomsoever You wish however You wish by whatever means You wish,

وَتَرْحَمُ مَنْ تَشَآءُ بِمَآ تَشَآءُ كَیْفَ تَشَآءُ

And You have mercy upon whomsoever You wish, however You wish, by whatever means You wish,

لَا تُسْئَلُ عَنْ فِعْلِكَ

You are not taken to account for what You do,

وَلَا تُنَازَعُ فِیْ مُلْكِكَ

And You are not opposed in Your Kingdom,

وَلَا تُشَارَكُ فِیْ اَمْرِكَ

You have no partner in Your affair,

وَلَا تُضَآدُّ فِیْ حُكْمِكَ

And You are not challenged in Your Rule,

وَلَا یَعْتَرِضُ عَلَیْكَ اَحَدٌ فِیْ تَدْبِیْرِكَ

and none can ever protest against Your plans.

لَكَ الْخَلْقُ وَالْاَمْرُ

To You alone belong the creation and The Affair,

تَبَارَكَ اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ

Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

یَا رَبِّ هٰذَا مَقَامُ مَنْ لَاذَبِكَ

O my Lord, this is the position of one who seeks Your shelter in You,

وَاسْتَجَارَ بِكَرَمِكَ

resorts to Your Generosity,

وَاَلِفَ اِحْسَانَكَ وَنِعَمَكَ

and has become accustomed to Your Goodness and Blessings.

وَاَنْتَ الْجَوَادُ الَّذِی لَا یَضِیْقُ عَفْوُكَ

You are certainly the Munificent whose pardon never straitens,

وَلَا یَنْقُصُ فَضْلُكَ

Whose favour never wanes,

وَلَا تَقِلُّ رَحْمَتُكَ

and Whose mercy never diminishes.

وَقَدْ تَوَثَّقْنَا مِنْكَ بِالصَّفْحِ الْقَدِیْمِ

We have full confidence in You on account of Your eternal forgiveness,

وَالْفَضْلِ الْعَظِیْمِ وَالرَّحْمَۃِ الْوَاسِعَۃِ

great kindness and expansive mercy.

اَفَتَرَاكَ یَا رَبِّ تُخْلِفُ ظُنُوْنَنَا اَوْ تُخَیِّبُ اٰمَالَنَا

Would it be, O Lord, that You may go against our assumptions or disappoint our hopes?

كَلَا یَا كَرِیْمُ فَلَیْسَ هٰذَا ظَنُّنَا بِكَ

No, never. O Magnanimous! This is neither our idea about You

وَلَا هٰذَا فِیْكَ طَمَعُنَا

nor is this our desire from You!

یَا رَبِّ اِنَّ لَنَا فِیْكَ اَمَلًا طَوِیْلًا كَثِیْرًا

My Lord, we have hope, great and long-lasting, in You.

اِنَّ لَنَا فِیْكَ رَجَآءً عَظِیْمًا

(My Lord), we have great expectation in You.

عَصَیْنَاكَ وَنَحْنُ نَرْجُوْ اَنْ تَسْتُرَ عَلَیْنَا

We have disobeyed You, and we hope that You will conceal (our faults),

وَدَعَوْنَاكَ وَنَحْنُ نَرْجُوْ اَنْ تَسْتَجِیْبَ لَنَا

We have prayed to You hoping that You will respond to us.

فَحَقِّقْ رَجَآئَنَا مَوْلاَنَا

So, make true our hopes, our Lord

فَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا نَسْتَوْجِبُ بِاَعْمَالِنَا

For we have come to know what we deserve for our deeds,

وَلٰكِنَّ عِلْمُكَ فِیْنَا وَعِلْمُنَا بِاَنَّكَ لَا تَصْرِفُنَا عَنْكَ

Yet, Your knowledge about us, and our knowledge that turn us away from Yourself,

حَثَّنا عَلٰی الرَّغْبَۃِ اِلَیْكَ وَاِنْ كُنَّا غَیْرَ مُسْتَوْجِبِیْنَ لِرَحْمَتِكَ

has urged us to ask You, even though we do not deserve Your mercy,

فَاَنْتَ اَهْلٌ اَنْ تَجُوْدَ عَلَیْنَا وَعَلَی الْمُذْنِبِیْنَ بِفَضْلِكَ سَعَتِكَ

While it befits You to be generous towards us and the sinners, by the goodness of your expansive benevolence.

فَامْنُنْ عَلَیْنَا بِمَا اَنْتَ اَهْلُهٗ

So, grace us as it befits You,

وَجُدْ عَلَیْنَا فَاِنَّا مُحْتَاجُوْنَ اِلٰی نَیْلِكَ

and act generously towards us, for we are in need of whatever we can obtain from You,

یَا غَفَّارُ بِنُوْرِكَ اهْتَدَیْنَا

O Oft-Forgiving, by Your Light we are guided,

وَبِفَضْلِكَ اسْتَغْنَیْنَا

By Your Favour we have become needless (of others)

وَبِنِعْمَتِكَ اَصْبَحْنَا وَاَمْسَیْنَا

By Your grace do we enter each morning and night,

ذُنُوْبُنَا بَیْنَ یَدَیْكَ

Our sins are before You;

نَسْتَغْفِرُكَ اللّٰهُمَّ مِنْهَا وَنَتُوْبُ اِلَیْكَ

We seek forgiveness from You, O Allah, for them, and we repent before You.

تَتَحَبَّبُ اِلَیْنَا بِالنِّعَمِ وَنُعَارِضُكَ بِالذُّنُوْبِ

You show affection to us through Your graces, while we confront You with sins,

خَیْرُكَ اِلَیْنَا نَازِلٌ

You goodness descends to us

وَشَرُّنَا اِلَیْكَ صَاعِدٌ

while our evil ascends to You.

وَلَمْ یَزَلْ وَلَا یَزَالُ مَلَكٌ كَرِیْمٌ یَاتِیْكَ عَنَّا بِعَمَلِ قَبِیْحٍ

There has always been, and will always be, a noble angel bringing news of our evil actions to You,

فَلَا یَمْنَعُكَ ذٰلِكَ مِنْ اَنْ تَحُوْطَنَا بِنِعَمِكَ

Yet this has never stopped You from encompassing us with Your graces

وَتَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَیْنَا بِاٰلَآئِكَ

and conferring upon us your bounties.

فَسُبْحَانَكَ مَا اَحْلَمَكَ وَاَعْظَمَكَ

Glory be to You! How Forbearing and Great You are

وَاَكْرَمَكَ مُبْدِئًا وَمُعِیْدًا

and how Generous, both in creation and resurrection.

تَقَدَّسَتْ اَسْمَآئُكَ

Holy are Your Names.

وَجَلَّ ثَنَآؤُكَ

And Exalted is Your praise.

وَكَرُمَ صَنَائِعُكَ وَفِعَالُكَ

Munificent are Your creations and acts,

اَنْتَ اِلٰهِیْ اَوْ سَعُ فَضْلًا وَاَعْظَمُ حِلْمًا

You, my Lord, are too expansive in graciousness and too great in forbearance

مِنْ اَنْ تُقَایِسَنِیْ بِفِعْلِیْ وَخَطِیْئَتِیْ

to punish me for my deeds and mistakes.

فَالْعَفْوَ الْعَفْوَ الْعَفْوَ

(Here I am asking for) Pardon! Pardon! Pardon!

سَیِّدِیْ سَیِّدِیْ سَیِّدِیْ

My Master, My Master, My Master

اَللّٰهُمَّ اشْغَلْنَا بِذِكْرِكَ

O Allah, occupy us with Your remembrance,

وَاَعِذْنَا مِنْ سَخَطِكَ

And protect us from Your Wrath,

وَاَجِرْنَا مِنْ عَذَابِكَ

deliver us from Your torture,

وَارْزُقْنَا مِنْ مَوَاهِبِكَ

And grant us of your gifts,

وَاَنْعِمْ عَلَیْنَا مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

And bless us from Your Grace,

وَارْزُقْنَا حَجَّ بَیْتِكَ

and provide us the opportunity to perform Hajj to Your Sacred House

وَزِیَارَۃَ قَبْرِ نَبِیِّكَ

and to visit the grave of Your Prophet,

صَلَوَاتُكَ وَرَحْمَتُكَ وَمَغْفِرَتُكَ وَرِضْوَانُكَ عَلَیْهِ وَعَلٰی اَهْلِ بَیْتِهٖ

may Your blessings, mercy, Forgiveness and pleasure be upon him and his Household.

اِنَّكَ قَرِیْبٌ مُجِیْبٌ

Surely You are near, responsive,

وَارْزُقْنَا عَمَلًا بِطَاعَتِكَ

Bless us to act in obedience to You,

وَتَوَفَّنَا عَلٰی مِلَّتِكَ وَسُنَّۃِ نَبِیِّكَ صَلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَآلِهٖ

And make us to die while we are (followers) of Your community and the tradition of Your Prophet, blessings of Allah be upon him and on his Household.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْلِیْ وَلِوَالِدَیَّ

O Allah, forgive me and my parents,

وَارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّیَانِیْ صَغِیْرًا

and have mercy on them as they cared for me when I was young

اِجْرِهِمَا بِالْاِحْسَانِ اِحْسَانًا

Reward them with goodness for their good deeds, generously for their good deeds

وَبِالسَّیِّئَاتِ غُفْرَانًا

and with forgiveness for their sins.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

O Allah, forgive the believers (men and women)

اَلْاَحْیَآءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالْاَمْوَاتِ

be they alive or dead,

وَتَابِعْ بَیْنَنَا وَبَیْنَهُمْ بِالْخَیْرَاتِ

and join us together in goodness.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَیِّنَا وَمَیِّتِنَا

O Allah, forgive our living and our dead,

وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَآئِبِنَا

our present and absent ones,

ذَكَرِنَا وَاُنْثَانَا

our males and females,

صَغِیْرِنَا وَكَبِیْرِنَا

our young ones and elderly ones,

حُرِّنَا وَمَمْلُوْكِنَا

our free ones and slaves.

كَذِبَ الْعَادِلُوْنَ بِاللهِ

Liars are those who hold others equal with their Lord,

وَضَلُّوْا ضَلَالًا بَعِیْدًا

they have wandered far astray

وَخَسِرُوا خُسْرَانًا مُبِیْنًا

And suffered a manifest loss.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) and the Household of Muhammad (a.s.),

وَاخْتِمْ لِیْ بِخَیْرٍ

Make my ending good,

وَاكْفِنِیْ مَا اَهَمَّنِیْ مِنْ اَمْرِ دُنْیَایَ وَاٰخِرَتِیْ

And relieve me of that which grieves me, both in matters of this world and the Hereafter,

وَلَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَیَّ مَنْ لَا یَرْحَمُنِیْ

And do not give one who will have no mercy on me authority over me,

وَاجْعَلْ عَلَیَّ مِنْكَ وَاقِیَۃًؚ بَاقِیَۃً

And make for me an everlasting protection, given by You

وَلَا تَسْلُبْنِیْ صَالِحَ مَا اَنْعَمْتَ بِهٖ عَلَیَّ

do not strip me of the good that you have blessed me with,

وَارْزُقْنِیْ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ رِزْقًا وَاسِعًا حَلَالًا طَیِّبًا

and provide me, out of Your grace, with sufficient, lawfully gotten, good sustenance.

اَللّٰهُمَّ احْرُسْنِیْ بِحَرَاسَتِكَ

O Allah, keep me under Your alert surveillance,

وَاحْفَظْنِیْ بِحِفْظِكَ

And protect me with Your protection,

وَاكْلَآنِیْ بِكِلَائَتِكَ

And ally me with Your alliance,

وَارْزُقْنِیْ حَجَّ بَیْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ

grant me opportunity to perform Hajj (pilgrimage) to Your Sacred House,

فِیْ عَامِنَا هٰذَا وَفِیْ كُلِّ عَامٍ

in this year and every year,

وَزِیَارَۃَ قَبْرِ نَبِیِّكَ وَالْاَئِمَّۃِ عَلَیْهِمُ السَّلَامُ

And to visit the grave of Your Prophet, and the Imams, peace be upon them,

وَلَا تُخْلِنِیْ یَا رَبِّ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْمَشَاهِدِ الشَّرِیْفَۃِ

My Lord, do not deprive me (of visiting) those holy shrines,

وَالْمَوَاقِفِ الْكَرِیْمَۃِ

and noble stations.

اَللّٰهُمَّ تُبْ عَلَیَّ حَتّٰی لَا اَعْصِیَكَ

O Allah, accept my repentance, such that I will not disobey You (again)

وَاَلْهِمْنِیْ الْخَیْرَ وَالْعَمَلَ بِهٖ

And inspire me with goodness, and acting according to goodness,

وَخَشْیَتَكَ بِاللَّیْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مَا اَبْقَیْتَنِیْ

and awe of You, during day and night, for as long as You keep me alive.

یَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ

O Lord of the worlds!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ كُلَّمَا قُلْتُ قَدْ تَهَیَّاْتُ وَتَعَبَّاْتُ

O' Lord! I, whenever I thought I was prepared and ready

وَقُمْتُ لِلصَّلٰوۃِ بَیْنَ یَدَیْكَ وَنَاجَیْتُكَ

and rose to pray before You and called upon You,

اَلْقَیْتَ عَلَیَّ نُعَاسًا اِذَا اَنَا صَلَّیْتُ

You cast a sleepiness on me as I prayed

وَسَلَبْتَنِیْ مُنَاجَاتَكَ اِذَا اَنَانَاجَیْتُ

and denied me (the opportunity) of conversing with You as I called upon You

مَالِیْ كُلَّمَا قُلْتُ قَدْ صَلُحَتْ سَرِیْرَتِیْ

What is the wrong with me? Whenever I think that my soul has become righteous,

وَقَرُبَ مِنْ مَجَالِسِ التَّوَّابِیْنَ مَجْلِسِیْ

and my gatherings are close to the gatherings of the repentant,

عَرَضَتْ لِیْ بَلِیَّۃٌ اَزَالَتْ قَدَمِیْ وَحَالَتْ بَیْنِیْ وَبَیْنَ خِدْمَتِكَ

a misfortune would befall me, making me stumble, and forming a barrier between me and Your service,

سَیِّدِیَ لَعَلَّكَ عَنْ بَابِكَ طَرَدْتَنِیْ

My Master, perhaps You have turned me away from Your door,

وَعَنْ خِدْمَتِكَ نَحَّیْتَنِیْ

and You have case me aside from Your serive.

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ رَاَیْتَنِیْ مُسْتَخِفًّا بِحَقِّكَ فَاَقْصَیْتَنِیْ

Perhaps You found me taking your Right upon me lightly, so you cast me aside

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ رَاَیْتَنِیْ مُعْرِضًا عَنْكَ فَقَلَیْتَنِیْ

or perhaps you saw me turning away from You and so You turned away from me

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ وَجَدْتَنِیْ فِیْ مَقَامِ الْكَاذِبِیْنَ فَرَفَضْتَنِیْ

or perhaps You found me in the status of the liars and so You rejected me

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ رَاَیْتَنِیْ غَیْرَ شَاكِرٍ لِنَعْمَآئِكَ فَحَرَمْتَنَیْ

or perhaps You saw me ungrateful for Your blessings so You deprived me

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ فَقَدْتَنِیْ مِنْ مَجَالِسِ الْعُلَمَآءِ فَخَذَلْتَنِیْ

or perhaps You saw me missing from the gatherings of the scholars and so You humiliated me

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ رَاَیْتَنِیْ فِی الْغَافِلِیْنَ فَمِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ اٰیَسْتَنِیْ

or perhaps You saw me among the oblivious, so You made me despair of Your Mercy

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ رَاَیْتَنِیْ اٰلِفَ مَجَالِسِ الْبَطَّالِیْنَ فَبَیْنِیْ وَبَیْنَهُمْ خَلَّیْتَنِیْ

or perhaps You saw me comfortable in the gatherings of the promoters of falsehood so You let me be, among them

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ لَمْ تُحِبَّ اَنْ تَسْمَعَ دُعَآئِی فَبَاعَدْتَنِیْ

Or, perhaps, You did not like to hear my supplications, so You distanced me,

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ بِجُرْمِیْ وَجَرِیْرَتِیْ كٰافَیْتَنِیْ

or perhaps You have recompensed me for my sins and transgressions

اَوْ لَعَلَّكَ بِقِلَّۃِ حَیَآئِیْ مِنْكَ جَازَیْتَنِیْ

Or perhaps You have recompensed me for my lack of shyness before You

فَاِنْ عَفَوْتَ یَا رَبِّ فَطَالَ مَا عَفَوْتَ عَنِ الْمُذْنِبِیْنَ قَبْلِیْ

If You forgive me, O Lord, then You have forgiven sinners like me for a long time,

لِاَنَّ كَرَمَكَ اَیْ رَبِّ یَجِلُّ عَنْ مُكَافَاتِ الْمُقَصِّرِیْنَ

because Your Magnanimity, My Lord, is too Exalted than to recompense those with shortcomings,

وَاَنَا عَآئِذٌ بِفَضْلِكَ هَارِبٌ مِّنْكَ اِلَیْكَ

And I am seeking refuge with Your Goodness, fleeing from You to You,

مُتَنَجِّزٌ مَا وَعَدْتَ مِنَ الصَّفْحِ عَمَّنْ اَحْسَنَ بِكَ ظَنًّا

Seeking refuge in the promise that You have made to forgive those who have good assumptions about You,

اِلٰهِیْ اَنْتَ اَوْسَعُ فَضْلًا

My Lord, You are too expansive in favour

وَاَعْظَمُ حِلْمًا مِنْ اَنْ تُقَایِسَنِیْ بِعَمَلِیْ

and too great in forbearance to punish me for my deed,

اَوْ اَنْ تَسْتَزِلَّنِیْ بِخَطِیْئَتِیْ

or to make me slip up because of my mistakes.

وَمَا اَنَا یَا سَیِّدِی وَمَا خَطَرِیْ

What am I? O Master! What is my significance?

هَبْنِیْ بِفَضْلِكَ سَیِّدِیْ

Grant me through Your benevolence

وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَیَّ بِعَفْوِكَ

and be charitable to me by means of Your pardon.

وَجَلِّلْنِیْ بِسِتْرِكَ

And cover me with Your protective covering,

وَاعْفُ عَنْ تَوْبِيْخِیْ بِكَرَمَ وَجْهِكَ

And overlook chastising me, by the Generosity of Your Face,

سَیِّدِیْ اَنَا الصَّغِیْرُ الَّذِیْ رَبَّیْتَهٗ

My Master, I am the young one that You have nurtured,

وَاَنَا الْجَاهِلُ الَّذِیْ عَلَّمْتَهٗ

The ignorant that You have taught,

وَاَنَا الضَّآلُّ الَّذِیْ هَدَیْتَهٗ

The straying that You have guided,

وَاَنَا الْوَضِیْعُ الَّذِیْ رَفَعْتَهٗ

The base, that You have elevated,

وَاَنَا الْخَآئِفُ الَّذِیْ اٰمَنْتَهٗ

I am the afraid that You have given security,

وَالْجَایِعُ الَّذِیْ اَشْبَعْتَهٗ

The hungry that You have satiated,

وَالْعَطْشَانُ الَّذِیْ اَرْوَیْتَهٗ

The thirsty that You have quenched,

وَالْعَارِیْ الَّذِیْ كَسَوْتَهٗ

The naked that You have dressed,

وَالْفَقِیْرُ الَّذِیْ اَغْنَیْتَهٗ

I am the poor that You have given affluence,

وَالضَّعِیْفُ الَّذِیْ قَوَّیْتَهٗ

The weak that You have strengthened,

وَالذَّلِیْلُ الَّذِیْ اَعْزَزْتَهٗ

The lowly that You have given glory,

وَالسَّقِیْمُ الَّذِیْ شَفَیْتَهٗ

And the sick whom You cured,

وَالسَّآئِلُ الَّذِیْ اَعْطَیْتَهٗ

The beseecher that You have given to,

وَالْمُذْنِبُ الَّذِیْ سَتَرْتَهٗ

The sinner that You have concealed,

وَالْخَاطِئُ الَّذِیْ اَقَلْتَهٗ

I am the guilty that You have excused,

وَاَنَا الْقَلِیْلُ الَّذِیْ كَثَّرْتَهٗ

The worthless that You have made valuable,

وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفُ الَّذِیْ نَصَرْتَهٗ

The helpless, whom You have aided,

وَاَنَا الطَّرِیْدُ الَّذِی اٰوَیْتَهٗ

and I am the exile that You have given refuge.

اَنَا یَا رَبِّ الَّذِیْ لَمْ اَسْتَحْیِكَ فِی الْخَلَآئِ

My Lord, I am the one who has not felt ashamed before You in private,

وَلَمْ اُرَاقِبْكَ فِی الْمَلَآئِ

and was not observant of You in public,

اَنَا صَاحِبُ الدَّوَاهِیْ الْعُظْمٰی

I am the committer of the grave transgressions,

اَنَا الَّذِیْ عَلٰی سَیِّدِهِ اجْتَرٰی

I am the one who showed daring against his Master,

اَنَا الَّذِیْ عَصَیْتُ جَبَّارَ السَّمَآئِ

I am the one who disobeyed the Powerful in the heavens,

اَنَا الَّذِیْ اَعْطَیْتُ عَلٰی مَعٰاصِی الْجَلِیْلِ الرُّشٰي

I am the one who gave bribes in order to commit acts of disobedience against the Exalted (Lord)

اَنَا الَّذِیْ حِیْنَ بُشِّرْتُ بِهَا خَرَجْتُ اِلَیْهَا اَسْعٰی

I am the one that, when informed of sinful acts, went hurrying towards them,

اَنَا الَّذِیْ اَمْهَلْتَنِیْ فَمَا ارْعَوَیْتُ

I am the one to whom You gave respite, but He did not take heed,

وَسَتَرْتَ عَلَیَّ فَمَا اسْتَحْیَیْتُ

The one whose sins You concealed, but He did not show any shame,

وَعَمِلْتُ بِالْمَعَاصِیْ فَتَعَدَّیْتُ

The one who committed so many acts of disobedience that he has violated (all terms),

وَاَسْقَطْتَنِیْ مِنْ عَیْنِكَ فَمَا بَالَیْتُ

and I am the one whom you, but he did not care,

فَبِحِلْمِكَ اَمْهَلْتَنِیْ

By Your Forbearance, You have given me respite.

وَبِسِتْرِكَ سَتَرْتَنِیْ حَتّٰی كَاَنَّكَ اَغْفَلْتَنِیْ

And You have concealed (my faults) with Your concealment, to the extent that it is as if You are unaware of my acts,

وَمِنْ عُقُوْبَاتِ الْمَعٰاصِیْ جَنَّبْتَنِیْ حَتّٰی كَاَنَّكَ اسْتَحْیَیْتَنِیْ

And that You have exempted me from the punishments for my acts of disobedience, to the extent that it is as if You will keep me alive

اِلٰهِیْ لَمْ اَعْصِكَ حِیْنَ عَصَیْتُكَ وَاَنَا بِرُبُوْبِیَّتِكَ جَاهِدٌ

My Lord, when I disobeyed You, I did not disobey while I was denying Your Lordship,

وَلَا بِاَمْرِكَ مُسْتَخِفٌّ

Nor because I was belittling Your commands,

وَلَا لِعُقُوْبَتِكَ مُعَتَرِّضٌ

Nor because I wanted to expose myself to Your punishment,

وَلَا لِوَعِیْدِكَ مُتَهَاوِنٌ

Nor because I was taking your promises of punishment lightly.

لٰكِنْ خَطِیْئَۃٌ عَرَضَتْ وَسَوَّلَتْ لِیْ نَفْسِیْ

Rather, it was a mistake that occurred, and my self deceived me,

وَغَلَبَنِیْ هَوَایَ

my desire overwhelmed me,

وَاَعَانَنِیْ عَلَیْهَا شِقْوَتِیْ

And my wretchedness helped me to it,

وَغَرَّنِیْ سِتْرُكَ الْمُرْخٰی عَلَیَّ

Your cover, spread over me, made me heedless,

فَقَدْ عَصَیْتُكَ وَخَالَفْتُكَ بِجُهْدِیْ

So, I have disobeyed You and gone against You with my own efforts,

فَالْآنَ مِنْ عَذَابِكَ مَنْ یَسْتَنْقِذُنِیْ

Now, who can save me from Your punishment?

وَمِنْ اَیْدِیْ الْخُصَمَآءِ غَدًا مَنْ یُخَلِّصُنِیْ

And tomorrow, who can rescue me from the hands of my enemies?

وَبِحَبْلِ مَنْ اَتَّصِلُ اِنْ اَنْتَ قَطَعْتَ حَبْلَكَ عَنِّيْ

Whose rope will I hold if You cut off Your rope from me,

فَوَا سَوْاَتَا عَلٰی مَا اَحْصٰی كِتَابُكَ مِنْ عَمَلِی

Shame on me for what Your Book has recorded of my deeds,

الَّذِیْ لَوْلَا مَا اَرْجُوْ مِنْ كَرَمِكَ وَسَعَۃِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَنَهْیِكَ اِیَّایَ عَنِ الْقُنُوْطِ

That had it not been my hope in Your generosity, and the expanse of Your mercy, and Your prohibiting me from despair,

لَقَنَطْتُ عِنْدَ مَا اَتَذَكَّرُهَا

I would have despaired when I remember them,

یَا خَیْرَ مَنْ دَعَاهُ دَاعٍ

For You are the best of those who are asked,

وَاَفْضَلَ مَنْ رَجَاهُ رَاجٍ

and the best of those in whom people hope.

اَللّٰهُمَّ بِذِمَّۃِ الْاِسْلاَمِ اَتَوَسَّلُ اِلَیْكَ

O Allah, I beseech You by the honour of Islam,

وَبِحُرْمَۃِ الْقُرْاٰنِ اَعْتَمِدُ عَلَیْكَ

I rely upon You, by the sanctity of the Qur’an,

وَبِحُبِّیْ النَّبِیَّ الْاُمِّیَّ الْقُرَشِیَّ الْهَاشِمِیَّ الْعَرَبِیَّ التِّهَامِیَّ الْمَكِّیَ الْمَدَنِیَّ

And by of my love for the Ummi, Qurashi, Hashimi, Arabi, Tihami, Makki, Madani Prophet,

اَرْجُوْا الزُّلْفَۃَ لَدَیْكَ

I hope for proximity to You.

فَلَا تُوْحِشِ اسْتِیْنَاسَ اِیْمَانِیْ

So, do not disturb my familiarity with faith

وَلَا تَجْعَلْ ثَوَابِیْ ثَوَابَ مَنْ عَبَدَ سِوَاكَ

and do not make my reward the reward given to those who worship other than You.

فَاِنَّ قَوْمًا اٰمَنُوْا بِاَلْسِنَتِهِمْ لِیَحْقِنُوْا بِهٖ دِمَآئَهُمْ

For there is a certain group who believed with their tongue, so that they could protect their lives,

فَاَدْرَكُوْا مَا اَمَّلُوْا

And they attained their wish,

وَاِنَّا اٰمَنَّابِكَ بِاَلْسِنَتِنَا وَقُلُوْبِنَا لِتَعْفُوَ عَنَّا

While we have believed in You by our tongues and hearts, so that You may pardon us,

فَاَدْرِكْنَا مَا اَمَّلْنَا

So make us to attain our wish.

وَثَبِّتْ رَجَآئَكَ فِیْ صَدُوْرِنَا

make our hope in You firm in our hearts,

وَلَا تُزِغْ قُلُوْبَنَا بَعْدَ اِذْ هَدَیْتَنَا

make not our hearts to deviate after You have guided us aright,

وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَۃً

and grant us from You mercy.

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

Surely, You are the Best Bestower.

فَوَعِزَّتِكَ لَوِانْتَهَرْتَنِیْ مَا بَرِحْتُ مِنْ بَابِكَ

even if you reproach me, I shall never depart from Your door,

وَلَا كَفَفْتُ عَنْ تَمَلُّقِكَ

and I shall never stop praising You

لِمَا اُلْهِمَ قَلْبِیْ (يَا سَيِّدِيْ) مِنَ الْمَعْرِفَۃِ بِكَرَمِكَ وَسَعَۃِ رَحْمَتِكَ

Because of the knowledge that my heart has been inspired of your Generosity and the great scope of Your Mercy,

اِلٰی مَنْ یَذْهَبُ الْعَبْدُ اِلَّا اِلٰی مَوْلَاهُ

To whom can a slave go except to his Master?

وَاِلٰی مَنْ یَلْتَجِئُ الْمَخْلُوْقُ اِلَّا اِلٰی خَالِقِهٖ

To whom can the creature resort except to his Creator?

اِلٰهِیْ لَوْ قَرَنْتَنِیْ بِالْاَصْفَادِ

My Lord, even if You tie me with chains,

وَمَنَعَتَنِیْ سَیْبَكَ مِنْۢ بَیْنِ الْاَشْهَادِ

deprive me of the stream of Your bounties in the presence of people,

وَدَلَلْتَ عَلٰی فَضَایِحِیْ عُیُوْنَ الْعِبَادِ

divulge all my scandalous acts before the eyes of all the slaves,

وَاَمَرْتَ بِیْ اِلَی النَّارِ

And You ordered me to Hell,

وَحُلْتَ بَیْنِیْ وَبَیْنَ الْاَبْرَارِ

And placed a barrier between me and the pious,

مَا قَطَعْتُ رَجَآئِیْ مِنْكَ

I wound not end my hope in You,

وَمَا صَرَفْتُ تَا مِیْلِیْ لِلْعَفْوِ عَنْكَ

And would turn away my expectation of pardon from You

وَلَا خَرَجَ حُبُّكَ مِنْ قَلَبِیْ

and Your love would not leave my heart.

اَنَا لَا اَنْسِیْ اَیَادِیَكَ عِنْدِیْ

I never forget Your graces that I enjoy

وَسِتْرَكَ عَلَیَّ فِیْ دَارِالدُّنْیَا

and Your having concealment (of my faults) in this world

سَیِّدِیْ اَخْرِجْ حُبَّ الدُّنْیَا مِنْ قَلْبِیْ

My Master, remove the love of this world from my heart.

وَاجْمَعْ بَیْنِیْ وَبَیْنَ الْمُصْطَفٰی وَآلِهٖ خِیَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ وَخَاتَمِ النَّبِیِّیْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ

And join between me and al-Mustafa (The Chosen One) and His Progeny Your chosen one from among Your creatures and the seal of the Prophets: Muhammad, blessings of Allah be upon him and on his Household.

وَانْقُلْنِی اِلٰی دَرَجَۃِ التَّوْبَۃِ اِلَیْكَ

Move me to the station of repentance to You,

وَاَعِنِّیْ بِالْبُكَآءِ عَلٰی نَفْسِیْ فَقَدْ اَفنَیْتُ بِالتَّسْوِیْفِ وَالْآمَالِ عُمْرِیْ

And help me weep over myself, for I have spent my life,

وَقَدْ نَزَلْتُ مَنْزِلَۃَ الْاٰیِسِیْنَ مِنْ خَیْرِیْ

And I am in the position of those who are in despair of their own goodness,

فَمَنْ یَكُوْنُ اَسْوَءَ حَالًا مِنِّیْ

Who, then, is in a worse state than me?

اِنْ اَنَا نُقِلْتُ عَلٰی مِثْلِ حَالِیْ

If I am transported, in my current state,

اِلٰی قَبْرِیْ لَمْ اُمَهِّدْهُ لِرَقْدَتِیْ

To a grave which I have not prepared for my stay,

وَلَمْ اَفْرُشْهُ بِالْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ لِضَجْعَتِیْ

(a grave) which I have not furnished with righteous deeds for my stay therein,

وَمَالِیْ لَا اَبْكِیْ

What is wrong with me that I do not weep?

وَلَا اَدْرِیْ اِلٰی مَا یَكُوْنُ مَصِیْرِیْ

while I do not know what my destiny will be?

وَاَرٰی نَفْسِیْ تُخَادِعُنِیْ

And I see my self deceiving me,

وَاَیَّامِیْ تُخَاتِلُنِیْ

my days are deceiving me,

وَقَدْ خَفَقَتْ عِنْدَ رَاسِیَ اَجْنِحَۃُ الْمَوْتِ

And the wings of death have fluttered over my head.

فَمَالِیْ لَا اَبْكِیْ

So what is wrong with me that I do not weep?

اَبْكِیْ لِخُرُوْجِ نَفْسِیْ

Weep for the departure of my soul

اَبْكِیْ لِظُلْمَۃِ قَبْرِیْ

Weep for the darkness of my grave

اَبْكِیْ لِضِیْقِ لَحْدِیْ

I weep for the narrowness of my vault.

اَبْكِیْ لِسُؤَالِ مُنْكرِ وَنَكِیْرِ اِیَّایَ

Weep for Munkar and Nakeer interrogating me.

اَبْكِیْ لِخُرُوْجِیْ مِنْ قَبْرِیْ عُرْیَانًا ذَلِیْلًا حَامِلًا ثِقْلِیْ عَلٰی ظَهْرِیْ

Weep for my coming out of my grave (on the Resurrection Day) naked, humiliated, carrying my burden on my back,

اَنْظُرُ مَرَّۃً عَنْ یَمِیْنِیْ وَاُخْرٰی عَنْ شِمَالِیْ

Looking at times to my right, and at other times to my left,

اِذِ الْخَلَآئِقُ فِیْ شَانٍ غَیْرِ شَانِیْ

Behold, the creatures will each be engaged with matters other than mine.

لِكُلِّ امْرِءٍ مِّنْهُمْ یَوْمَئِذٍ شَانٌ یُّغْنِیْهِ

Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless of others.

وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَۃٌ ضَاحِكَۃٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَۃٌ

Many faces on that day shall be bright, laughing, joyous.

وَوُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَئِذٍ عَلَیْهَا غَبَرَۃٌ تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَۃٌ وَّذِلَّۃٌ

And many faces on that day, on them shall be dust. Darkness, and humiliation shall cover them.

سَیِّدِیْ عَلَیْكَ مُعَوَّلِیْ وَمُعْتَمَدِیْ

My Master, on You I depend and rely.

وَرَجَآئِیْ وَتَوَكُّلِیْ

In You I put my hope and trust.

وَبِرَحْمَتِكَ تَعَلُّقِیْ

And to Your mercy, I cling;

تُصِیْبُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ مَنْ تَشَآءُ

You direct Your mercy towards whomsoever You like

وَتَهْدِیْ بِكَرَامَتِكَ مَنْ تُحِبُّ

and You guide, out of Your Honour, whomsoever You like.

فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلٰی مَا نَقَّیْتَ مِنَ الشِّرْكِ قَلْبِیْ

So, all praise be to You for You have purified my heart from polytheism.

وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلٰی بَسْطِ لِسَانِیْ

All praise be to You for You have made my tongue express utterly.

اَفَبِلِسَانِیْ هٰذَا الْكَالِّ اَشْكُرُكَ

Can I thank You with this weak tongue?

اَمْ بِغَایَۃِ جَهْدِیْ فِیْ عَمَلِیْ اُرْضِیْكَ

Or can I please You with the utmost effort in my actions?

وَمَا قَدْرُ لِسَانِیْ یَا رَبِّ فِیْ جَنْۢبِ شُكْرِكَ

What is the value of my tongue, my Lord, in comparison to gratefulness to You?

وَمَا قَدْرُ عَمَلِیْ فِیْ جَنْۢبِ نِعَمِكَ وَاِحْسَانِكَ اِلَیَّ

What is the value of my action, my Lord, in comparison to Your graces and favours?

اِلٰهِیْ اِنَّ جُوْدَكَ بَسَطَ اَمَلِیْ

My Lord, Your benevolence has expanded my hope,

وَشُكْرَكَ قَبِلَ عَمَلِیْ

And it is Your Gratefulness that has accepted my actions.

سَیِّدِی اِلَیْكَ رَغْبَتِیْ

My Lord, in You is my desire,

وَاِلَیْكَ رَهْبَتِیْ

And it is You that I fear,

وَاِلَیْكَ تَامِیْلِیْ

and to You do I look forward.

وَقَدْ سَاقَنِیْ اِلَیْكَ اَمَلِیْ

My hope that has driven me towards You,

وَعَلَیْكَ یَا وَاحِدِیْ عَكَفَتْ هِمَّتِیْ

And my determination has settled with You, O My One,

وَفِیْمَا عِنْدَكَ اَنْبَسَطَتْ رَغْبَتِیْ

And my hope is directed towards what You have,

وَلَكَ خَالِصُ رَجَآئِیْ وَخَوْفِیْ

And in You is my sincere hope and fear,

وَبِكَ اَنِسَتْ مَحَبَّتِیْ

My Love has found familiarity in You,

وَاِلَیْكَ اَلْقَیْتُ بِیَدِیْ

And toward You I have cast my hand,

وَبِحَبْلِ طَاعَتِكَ مَدَدْتُ رَهْبَتِیْ

And I have stretched out my fear to the rope of Your obedience

یَا مَوْلَایَ بِذِكْرِكَ عَاشَ قَلْبِیْ

My master, by Your remembrance my heart lives,

وَبِمُنَاجَاتِكَ بَرَّدْتُ اَلَمَ الْخَوْفِ عَنِّیْ

And through confidential conversations with You have I cooled the pains of my fear.

فَیَا مَوْلَایَ وَیَا مُؤَمَّلِیْ وَیَا مُنْتَهٰی سُؤْلِیْ

So, O my Master, O my trusty patron, O my ultimate request

فَرِّقْ بَیْنِیْ وَبَیْنَ ذَنْۢبِیَ الْمَانِعِ لِیْ مِنْ لُزُوْمِ طَاعَتِكَ

Separate between me and my sin- which prevents me from adhering to Your obedience,

فَاِنَّمَا اَسْئَلُكَ لِقَدِیْمِ الرَّجَآءِ فِیْكَ

I ask You because of my eternal hope in You,

وَعَظِیْمِ الطَّمَعِ مِنْكَ

and my great desire from You,

الَّذِیْ اَوْ جَبْتَهٗ عَلٰی نَفْسِكَ مِنَ الرَّافَۃِ وَالرَّحْمَۃِ

(and because of the) Mercy and Compassion which You have made obligatory upon Yourself,

فَالْاَمْرُلَكَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِیْكَ لَكَ

So, the whole affair is Yours alone. You are One, and have no partner,

وَالْخَلْقُ كُلُّهُمْ عِیَالُكَ وَفِیْ قَبْضَتِكَ

All the creatures are dependent upon You and are in Your grip.

وَكُلُّ شَیْءٍ خَاضِعٌ لَكَ

All things are submissive to You.

تَبَارَكْتَ یَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ

Blessed are You, O Lord of the worlds.

اِلٰهِیْ ارْحَمْنِیْ اِذَا انْقَطَعَتْ حُجَّتِیْ

O my Allah, have mercy on me when my argument is nullified,

وَكَلَّ عَنْ جَوَابِكَ لِسَانِیْ

And my tongue is paralysed when it comes to answering (You)

وَطَاشَ عِنْدَ سُؤَالِكَ اِیَّایَ لُبِّیْ

And when my mind becomes unable as You interrogate me.

فَیَاعَظِیْمَ رَجَآئِیْ لَا تُخَیِّبْنِیْ اِذَا اشْتَدَّتْ فَاقَتِیْ

So, O my great hope, do not forsake me when my need becomes great,

وَلَا تَرُدَّنِیْ لِجَهْلِیْ

do not reject me out of my ignorance,

وَلَا تَمْنَعْنِیْ لِقِلَّۃِ صَبْرِیْ

and do not deprive because of my lack of patience,

اَعْطِنِیْ لِفَقْرِیْ

Give me on account of my neediness,

وَارْحَمْنِیْ لِضَعْفِیْ

And have mercy on me on account of my weakness,

سَیِّدِیْ عَلَیْكَ مُعْتَمَدِیْ

O my Master, on You do I rely

وَمُعَوَّلِیْ وَرَجَائِیْ وَتَوَكُّلِیْ

and lean. And in You I hope and trust.

وَبِرَحْمَتِكَ تَعَلُّقِیْ

I cling to Your Mercy,

وَبِفَنَآئِكَ اَحُطُّ رَحْلِیْ

And in Your courtyard I alight,

وَبِجُوْدِكَ اَقْصِدُ طَلِبَتِیْ

On account of Your benevolence do I declare my request

وَبِكَرَمِكَ اَیْ رَبِّ اَسْتَفْتِحُ دُعَآئِیْ

And with Your Generosity, My Lord, I begin my prayers

وَلَدَیْكَ اَرْجُوْ فَاقَتِیْ

With You do I desire for meeting my needs.

وَبِغَنَاكَ اَجْبُرُ عَیْلَتِیْ

Through Your Needlessness I heal my neediness,

وَتَحْتَ ظِلِّ عَفْوِكَ قِیَامِیْ

And under the shade of Your pardon I stand.

وَاِلٰی جَوْدِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ اَرْفَعُ بَصَرِیْ

Towards Your benevolence and generosity I raise my sight.

وَاِلٰی مَعْرُوْفِكَ اُدِیْمُ نَظَرِیْ

And towards Your Forgiveness is directed my constant gaze,

فَلَا تُحْرِقْنِیْ بِالنَّارِ وَاَنْتَ مَوْضِعُ اَمَلِیْ

so, do not burn me with The Fire, while You are my ultimate hope,

وَلَا تُسْكِنِّیْ الْهَاوِیَۃَ فِاِنَّكَ قُرَّۃُ عَیْنِیْ

and do not embed me in al-Hawiyah (a pit of Hell) for You are the delight of my eyes.

یَا سَیِّدِیْ لَا تُكَذِّبْ ظَنِّیْ بِاِحْسَانِكَ وَمَعْرُوْفِكَ

O my Master, do not belie my (good) assumptions about Your Grace and Favours,

فَاِنَّكَ ثِقَتِیْ

For in You is my trust.

وَلَا تَحْرِمْنِیْ ثَوَابَكَ

Do not deprive me of Your rewards,

فَاِنَّكَ الْعَارِفُ بِفَقْرِیْ

for You know best my poverty.

اِلٰهِیْ اِنْ كَانَ قَدْ دَنَا اَجَلِیْ وَلَمْ یُقَرِّبْنِیْ مِنْكَ عَمَلِیْ

My Lord, if my time of death is close, and my actions have not brought me close to You,

فَقَدْ جَعَلْتُ الْاِعْتِرَافَ اِلَیْكَ بِذَنْۢبِیْ وَسَآئِلَ عِلَلِیْ

then I have made my confession of having committed sins be my means of justification.

اِلٰهِیْ اِنْ عَفَوْتَ فَمَنْ اَوْلٰی مِنْكَ بِالْعَفْوِ

My Lord, if You forgive, then who is worthier than You in forgiveness?

وَاِنْ عَذَّبْتَ فَمَنْ اَعْدَلُ مِنْكَ فِی الْحُكْمِ

And if You punish, then who is fairer than You in judgment?

اِرْحَمْ فِیْ هٰذِهِ الدُّنْیَا غُرْبَتِیْ

Have mercy on my estrangement in this world,

وَعِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ كُرْبَتِیْ

My grief at the time of death,

وَفِیْ الْقَبْرِ وَحْدَتِیْ

My solitude in the grave,

وَفِی اللَّحْدِ وَحْشَتِیْ

My loneliness in the grave,

وَاِذَا نُشِرْتُ لِلْحِسَابِ بَیْنَ یَدَیْكَ ذُلَّ مَوْقِفِیْ

and on the degradation of my situation when I am resurrected fro the Account before You.

وَاغْفِرْ لِیْ مَا خَفِیَ عَلَی الْاٰدَمِیِّیْنَ مِنْ عَمَلِیْ

Forgive for me those deeds which have been concealed from other humans,

وَاَدِمْ لِیْ مَا بِهٖ سَتَرْتَنِیْ

make permanent for me that through which You have covered my faults,

وَارْحَمْنِیْ صَرِیْعًا عَلَی الْفِرَاشِ تُقَلِّبُنِیْ اَیْدِیْ اَحِبَّتِیْ

have mercy on me when I am deceased, on my (death)bed, being turned over by my loved ones,

وَتَفَضَّلْ عَلَیَّ مَمْدُوْدًا عَلَی الْمُغْتَسَلِ یُقَلِّبُنِیْ صَالِحُ جِیْرَتِیْ

Show favour to me when I am stretched out on the washing-table, being turned from sided to side by my righteous neighbours,

وَتَحَنَّنَ عَلَیَّ مَحْمُوْلًا قَدْ تَنَاوَلَ الْاَقْرِبَآءُ اَطْرَافَ جَنَازَتِیْ

Have compassion towards me when I am being and my relatives are holding the sides of my coffin,

وَجُدْ عَلَیَّ مَنْقُوْلًا قَدْ نَزَلْتُ بِكَ وَحِیْدًا فِیْ حُفْرَتِیْ

Be magnanimous towards me when I am transferred, and am left to You, and placed into my grave, alone,

وَارْحَمْ فِیْ ذٰلِكَ الْبَیْتِ الْجَدِیْدِ غُرْبَتِیْ حَتّٰی لَا اَسْتَانِسَ بِغَیْرِكَ

have mercy on my estrangement in that new dwelling, so that I will not find comfort with anyone other than You.

یَا سَیِّدِیْ اِنْ وَكَلْتَنِیْ اِلٰی نَفْسِیْ هَلَكْتُ

My Master, if you entrust me to myself, I will certainly perish.

سَیِّدِیْ فَبِمَنْ اَسْتَغِیْثُ اِنْ لَمْ تُقِلْنِیْ عَثْرَتِیْ

My Master, to whom will I resort if You do not overlook my slips?

فَاِلٰی مَنْ اَفْزَعُ اِنْ فَقَدْتُ عِنَایَتَكَ فِیْ ضَجْعَتِیْ

To whom will I run for help if I lose Your care for me during my stay (in the grave)?

وَاِلٰی مَنْ اَلْتَجِیْءُ اِنْ لَمْ تُنَفِّسْ كُرْبَتِیْ

With whom will I seek refuge if You do not relieve my grief?

سَیِّدِیْ مَنْ لِیْ وَمَنْ یَرْ حَمُنِیْ اِنْ لَمْ تَرْ حَمْنِیْ

My Master, who do I have, And who will have mercy on me if You do not?

وَفَضْلَ مَنْ اُؤَمِّلُ اِنْ عَدِمْتُ فَضْلَكَ یَوْمَ فَاقَتِیْ

In whose favour should I hope if You withhold Your favour on my day of need,

وَاِلٰی مَنِ الْفِرَارُ مِنَ الذُّنُوْبِ اِذَا انْقَضٰی اَجَلِیْ

To whom will I flee from my sins when my appointed time arrives?

سَیِّدِیْ لَا تُعَذِّبْنِیْ وَاَنَا اَرْجُوْكَ

My Master, do not punish while I am imploring you,

اِلٰهِیْ حَقِّقْ رَجَآئِیْ

My Lord, make my hopes reality,

وَاٰمِنْ خَوْفِیْ

And give me security from my fear.

فَاِنَّ كَثْرَۃَ ذُنُوْبِیْ لَا اَرْجُوْفِیْهَا لَهَآ اِلَّا عَفْوَكَ

As for my numerous sins, my only hope in relation to them is Your pardon.

سَیِّدِیْ اَنَا اَسْئَلُكَ مَالَا اَسْتَحِقُّ

O my Master, I am asking You that which I do not deserve,

وَاَنْتَ اَهْلُ التَّقْوٰی وَاَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَۃِ

While You are the worthiest of being feared and the worthiest of forgiving.

فَاغْفِرْلِیْ وَالْبِسْنِیْ مِنْ نَظَرِكَ ثَوْبًا یُغَطِّیْ عَلَیَّ التَّبِعَاتِ

So, forgive me and dress me, out of Your attention, a garment covering all my defects,

وَتَغْفِرُهَالِیْ وَلَا اُطَالَبُ بِهَا

and forgive them for me so that I will not be held responsible for them.

اِنَّكَ ذُوْمَنٍّ قَدِیْمٍ

Verily, You are the Lord of eternal favours,

وَصَفْحٍ عَظِیْمٍ

great pardon,

وَتَجَاوُزٍ كَرِیْمٍ

And generous forgiveness..

اِلٰهِیْ اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ تَفِیْضُ سَیْبَكَ عَلٰی مَنْ لَا یَسْئَلُكَ

My Lord, You are the one whose flowing graces reach those who never ask You

وَعَلَي الْجَاهِدِیْنَ بِرُبُوْبِیَّتِكَ

and those who stubbornly deny Your Lordship.

فَكَیْفَ سَیِّدِیْ بِمَنْ سَئَلَكَ وَاَیْقَنَ اَنَّ الْخَلْقَ لَكَ وَالْاَمْرَ اِلَیْكَ

So, my Master, what should You do to those who ask You and have certainty that all of creation and its affairs belong to You.

تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَیْتَ یَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ

Blessed and Exalted are You, O Lord of the worlds!

سَیِّدِیْ عَبْدُكَ بِبَابِكَ اَقَامَتْهُ الْخَصَاصَۃُ بَیْنَ یَدَیْكَ

My master, (this is) Your servant, at Your door; his neediness has made him stand before you,

یَقْرَعُ بَابَ اِحْسَانِكَ بِدُعَآئِهٖ فَلَا تُعْرِضْ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِیْمِ عَنِّیْ

am knocking on the door of Your Grace with his prayer So, do not turn Your Generous Face away from me.

وَاَقْبَلْ مِنِّیْ مَا اَقُوْلُ فَقَدْ دَعَوْتُ بِهٰذَا الدُّعَآئِ

Accept that which I say, for I have asked through this prayer,

وَاَنَا اَرْجُوْ اَنْ لَا تَرُدَّنِیْ مَعْرِفَۃً مِّنِّیْ بِرَافَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ

hoping that You will not reject me, because of the knowledge I have of Your compassion and mercy,

اِلٰهِیْ اَنْتَ الَّذِیْ لَا یُحْفِیْكَ سَآئِلٌ

O my Allah, it is You Whom is never disturbed by any suppliant

وَلَا یَنْقُصُكَ نَائِلٌ

and Whose kingdom is never decreased owing to donations.

اَنْتَ كَمَا تَقُوْلُ وَفَوْقَ مَا نَقُوْلُ

You are as You say and above what we say,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُكَ صَبْرًا جَمِیْلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beautiful patience,

وَفَرَجًا قَرِیْبًا

immediate relief,

وَقَوْلًا صَادِقًا

truthful speech,

وَاَجْرًا عَظِیْمًا

and great reward.

اَسْئَلُكَ یَا رَبِّ مِنَ الْخَیْرِ كُلِّهٖ

I ask You, O Lord, for all of goodness,

مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَالَمْ اَعْلَمْ

That which I know of and that which I do not know.

اَسْئَلُكَ اَللّٰهُمَّ مِنْ خَیْرِ مَا سَئَلَكَ مِنْهُ عِبَادُكَ الصّٰالِحُوْنَ

I ask You, O Lord, the best of that which Your righteous servants have asked from You,

یَا خَیْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ

O the Best of those asked,

وَاَجْوَدَ مَنْ اَعْطٰی

And the Most Benevolent in Giving.

اَعْطِنِیْ سُؤْلِیْ فِیْ نَفْسِیْ وَاَهْلِیْ

Grant my request in relation to myself, my family,

وَوَالِدَیَّ وَوَلَدِیْ

my parents, my children,

وَاَهْلِ حُزَانَتِیْ وَاِخْوَانِیْ فِیْكَ

my comrades, and my brothers in You.

وَاَرْغِدْ عَیْشِیْ

Bless my living,

وَاَظْهِرْ مُرُوَّتِیْ

manifest my integrity,

وَاَصْلِحْ جَمِیْعَ اَحْوَالِیْ

set aright all my affairs,

وَاجْعَلْنِیْ مِمَّنْ اَطَلَلْتَ عُمْرَهٗ

and include me with those whom You decide to grant long life,

وَحَسَّنْتَ عَمَلَهٗ وَاَتْمَمْتَ عَلَیْهِ نِعْمَتِكَ وَرَضِیْتَ عَنْهُ

And whose deeds You have made righteous, and whom You have perfected Your favours; those with whom You are pleased,

وَاَحْیَیْتَهٗ حَیٰوۃً طَیِّبَۃً فِیْ اَدْوَمِ السُّرُوْرِ

and whom You have made to live a good life, in permanent happiness,

وَاَسْبَغِ الْكَرَامَۃِ وَاَتَمِّ الْعَیْشِ

The most reputable honour, and perfect livelihood.

اِنَّكَ تَفْعَلُ مَا تَشَآءُ

Surely, You do whatever You will,

وَلَا يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ غَیْرُكَ

And none besides You can do whatever they will.

اَللّٰهُمَّ خُصَّنِیْ مِنْكَ بِخَاصَّۃِ ذِكْرِكَ

O Allah, give me the exclusive blessing of Your Remembrance,

وَلَا تَجْعَلْ شَیْئًا مِّمَّا اَتَقَرَّبُ بِهٖ فِيْ اٰنَآءِ اللَّیْلِ وَاَطْرَافِ النَّهَارِ رِیَآءً وَلَا سُمْعَۃً وَلَا اَشَرًا وَلَا بَطَرًا

do not make any of the things by which I seek Your nearness - in the hours of the night and the ends of the days - Showing off or seeking reputation, Nor pretension or insolence.

وَاجْعَلْنِیْ لَكَ مِنَ الْخَاشِعِیْنَ

Include me among those who are in awe of You,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَعْطِنِیْ السَّعَۃَ فِی الرِّزْقِ

O Allah, grant me sufficient sustenance,

وَالْاَمْنَ فِی الْوَطَنِ

And security in my homeland,

وَقُرَّۃَ الْعَیْنَ فِی الْاَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ وَالْوَلَدِ

And delight in my family, property, and children,

وَالْمُقَامَ فِیْ نِعَمِكَ عِنْدِیْ

permanence of Your graces upon me,

وَالصِّحَّۃَ فِی الْجِسْمِ وَالْقُوَّۃَ فِی الْبَدَنِ

A healthy body, A strong physique,

وَالسَّلَامَۃَ فِی الدِّیْنَ

and sound faith.

وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِیْ بِطَاعَتِكَ وَطَاعَتِ رَسُوْلِكَ

Employ in Your obedience and the obedience of Your Messenger

مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّی اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ اَبَدًا مَّا اسْتَعْمَرْتَنِیْ

Muhammad—Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household—as long as You give me life.

وَاجْعَلْنِیْ مِنْ اَوْ فَرِ عِبَادِكَ عِنْدَكَ نَصِیْبًا

Make me one of the most rewarded of Your slaves,

فِیْ كُلِّ خَیْرٍ اَنْزَلْتَهٗ وَتُنْزِلُهٗ فِیْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فِیْ لَیْلَۃِ الْقَدْرِ

in each and every item of goodness that You have made to descended and You will make to descend during the month of Ramazan, And during Laylatul Qadr (Night of Destiny)

وَمَا اَنْتَ مُنْزِلُهٗ فِیْ كُلِّ سَنَۃٍ مِّنْ رَحْمَۃٍ تَنْشُرُهَا

as well as all that which Youmake to descend every year, of Mercy that You spread out,

وَعَافِیَۃٍ تُلْبِسُهَا

good health with which You adorn,

وَبَلِیَّۃٍ تَدْفَعُهَا

misfortune that You repel,

وَحَسَنَاتٍ تَتَقَبَّلُهَا

good deeds that You accept,

وَسَیِّئَاتٍ تَتَجَاوَزُ عَنْهَا

and mistakes that You excuse.

وَارْزُقْنِیْ حَجَّ بَیْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ فِیْ عَامِنَا هٰذَا وَفِیْ كُلِّ عَامٍ

Bless me with the opportunity to perform Hajj (pilgrimage) to Your Sanctified House, in this year and in every year,

وَارْزُقْنِیْ رِزْقًا وَاسْعًا مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْوَاسِعِ

grant me prosperous sustenance out of Your expansive grace,

وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّیْ یَا سَیَّدِیْ الْاَسْوَآءَ

And repel, my Master, all evils from me,

وَاقْضِ عَنِّیِ الدَّيْنَ وَالظُّلاَمَاتِ حَتّٰی لَا اَتَاَذّٰی بِشَیْءٍ مِّنْهُ

settle my debts and my dubious earnings, such that I will not be harmed because of them,

وَخُذْعَنِّیْ بِاَسْمَاعِ اَضْدَادِيْ وَاَبْصَارِ اَعْدَآئِیْ وَحُسَّادِیْ وَالْبَاغِیْنَ عَلَیَّ

And protect me from the hearing and sight of my enemies, those who envy me, and those who intend to oppress me,

وَانْصُرْنِیْ عَلَیْهِمْ

And give me victory over them,

وَاَقِرَّعَیْنِیْ وَفَرِّحْ قَلْبِیْ

Give me delight and make my heart joyous,

وَاجْعَلْ لِیْ مِنْ هَمِّیْ وَكَرْبِیْ فَرَجًا وَمَخْرَجًا

grant me a way out and a relief from my concerns and griefs,

وَاجْعَلْ مَنْ اَرَادَنِیْ بِسُوْءٍ مِنْ جَمِیْعِ خَلْقِكَ تَحْتَ قَدَمَیَّ

make all those who intend evil towards me, among all Your creatures, to be under my feet,

وَاكْفِنِیْ شَرَّالشَّیْطَانِ

protect me against the evil of Satan,

وَشَرَّ السُّلْطَانِ

the evil of the ruling authority,

وَسَیِّئَاتِ عَمَلِیْ

and my evil deeds,

وَطَهِّرْنِیْ مِنَ الذُّنُوْبِ كُلِّهَا

purify me from all sins,

وَاَجِرْنِیْ مِنَ النَّارِ بِعَفْوِكَ

save me from Hellfire by Your pardon,

وَاَدْخِلْنِیْ الْجَنَّۃَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ

allow me to enter Paradise by Your Mercy,

وَزَوِّجْنِیْ مِنَ الْحُوْرِالْعِیْنَ بِفَضْلِكَ

marry me to the Houril ‘Een by Your Grace,

وَاَلْحِقْنِیْ بِاَوْلِیَآئِكَ الصَّالِحِیْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِهٖ

and join me to Your righteous servants, Muhammad and his progeny,

الْاَبْرَارِ الطَّیِّبِیْنَ الطَّاهِرِیْنَ الْاَخْیَارِ

The pious, good, pure and righteous

صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَیْهِمْ وَعَلٰی اَجْسَادِهِمْ وَاَرْوَاحِهِمْ وَرَحْمَۃُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهٗ

May Your Mercy and blessings be upon their bodies and souls.

اِلٰهِیْ وَسَیِّدِیْ وَعِزَّتِكَ وَجَلاَلِكَ

My Lord and My Master, I swear by Your Might and Your Glory,

لَئِنْ طَالَبْتَنِیْ بِذُنُوْبِیْ لَاُطَالِبَنَّكَ بِعَفْوِكَ

if You take me to account by my sins, I will ask You by Your pardon.

وَلَئِنْ طَالَبْتَنِیْ بِلُؤْمِیْ لَاُطَالِبَنَّكَ بِكَرَمِكَ

If You take me to account for my vileness, I will ask You by Your Generosity,

وَلَئِنْ اَدْخَلْتَنِیْ النَّارَ لَاُخْبِرَنَّ اَهْلَ النَّارِ بِحُبِّیْ لَكَ

If You make me to enter the Hell-Fire, I will inform the inhabitants of Hell of my love for You.

اِلٰهِیْ وَسَیِّدِیْ اِنْ كُنْتَ لَا تَغْفِرُ اِلَّا لِاَوْلِیَائِكَ وَاَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ

My Lord and my Master, if you forgive only Your intimate servants and those who obey You,

فَاِلٰی مَنْ یَفْزَعُ الْمُذْنِبُوْنَ

to whom then will the sinful resort?

وَاِنْ كُنْتَ لَا تُكْرِمُ اِلَّا اَهْلَ الْوَفَآءِ بِكَ

If You honour none but those who loyal to You,

فَبِمَنْ یَسْتَغِیْثُ الْمُسِیْئُوْنُ

then whose shelter will the evildoers seek?

اِلٰهِیْ اِنْ اَدْخَلْتَنِی النَّارَ فَفِیْ ذٰلِكَ سُرُوْرُ عَدُوِّكَ

My Lord, If You make me to enter the Hell-Fire, in this is the happiness of Your enemy,

وَاِنْ اَدْخَلْتَنِی الْجَنَّۃَ فَفِی ذٰلِكَ سُرُوْرُ نَبِیِّكَ

And if You admit me to paradise, in this is the happiness of Your Prophet,

وَاَنَا وَاللهِ اَعْلَمُ اَنَّ سُرُوْرَ نَبِیِّكَ اَحَبُّ اِلَیْكَ مِنْ سُرُوْرِ عَدُوِّكَ

And I take an oath by Allah, that I know that the happiness of Your Prophet is more beloved to You than the happiness of Your enemy,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُكَ اَنْ تَمْلَاءَ قَلْبِیْ حُبًّا لَكَ

O Allah, I ask You to fill my heart with love for You,

وَخَشْیَۃً مِنْكَ

And awe of You,

وَتَصْدِیْقًا بِكِتَابِكَ

( My Lord, I ask You to fill my heart) with belief in Your Book,

وَاِیْمَانًا بِكَ

Faith in You,

وَفَرَقًا مِنْكَ

Dread from You,

وَشَوْقًا اِلَیْكَ

and eager love towards You.

یَا ذَالْجَلاَلِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ حَبِّبْ اِلَیَّ لِقَآئَكَ

O Lord of Glory and Honour, make the meeting with You beloved to me,

وَاَحْبِبْ لِقَائِیْ

And (please do) love meeting with me,

وَاجْعَلْ لِیْ فِیْ لِقَائِكَ الرَّاحَۃَ وَالْفَرَجَ وَالْكَرَامَۃَ

and make for me, in meeting You, comfort, relief and honour,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَلْحِقْنِیْ بِصَالِحِ مَنْ مَّضٰی

O Allah, join me with the righteous people of the past,

وَاجْعَلْنِیْ مِنْ صَالِح مَنْۢ بَقِیَ وَخُذْبِیْ سَبِیْلَ الصَّالِحِیْنَ

And make me among the righteous of those to come, and set me on the path of the righteous,

وَاَعِنِّیْ عَلٰی نَفْسِیْ بِمَا تُعِیْنُ بِهِ الصَّالِحِیْنَ عَلٰی اَنْفُسِهِمْ

help me against myself with that which You helped the righteous against themselves,

وَاخْتِمْ عَمَلِیْ بِاَحْسَنِهٖ

seal my deed with the best of it,

وَاجْعَلْ ثَوَابِیْ مِنْهُ الْجَنَّۃَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ

And make my reward for it Paradise, by Your Mercy,

وَاَعِنِّیْ عَلٰی صَالِحِ مَا اَعْطَیْتَنِیْ

help me manage the good things that You have bestowed upon me,

وَثَبِّتْنِیْ یَا رَبِّ وَلَا تَرُدَّنِیْ فِیْ سُوْءٍ اسْتَنْفَذْتَنِیْ مِنْهُ

keep me firm, O Lord, and do not make me turn back to an evil from which you have saved me,

یَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ

O Lord of the worlds!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُكَ اِیْمَانًا لَا اَجَلَ لَهٗ دُوْنَ لِقَآئِكَ

O Allah, I ask You for a faith that will last until I meet You,

اَحْیِنِیْ مَا اَحْیَیْتَنِیْ عَلَیْهِ

Keep me on this faith for as long as You give me life,

وَتَوَفِّنِیْ اِذَا تَوَفَّیْتَنِیْ عَلَیْهِ

Make me die on this faith, when you collect my soul,

وَابْعَثْنِی اِذَا بَعَثْتَنِیْ عَلَیْهِ

And resurrect me on this faith when You raise me up,

وَاَبْرِءْ قَلْبِیْ مِنَ الرِّیَآءِ وَالشَّكِّ وَالسُّمْعَۃِ فِیْ دِیْنِكَ

Purify my heart from showing off, doubt and pretence in matters of Your religion,

حَتّٰی یَكُوْنَ عَمَلِیْ خَالِصًا لَكَ

Such that my deeds are sincerely for You.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَعْطِنِیْ بَصِیْرَۃً فِیْ دِیْنِكَ

O Allah, grant me insight in matters of Your religion,

وَفَهْمًا فِیْ حُكْمِكَ

understanding of Your decisions,

وَفِقْهًا فِیْ عِلْمِكَ

And Your knowledge,

وَكِفْلَیْنِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ

And two folds of Your Mercy

وَوَرَعًا یَحْجُزُنِیْ عَنْ مَعَاصِیْكَ

(My Lord, grant me) special piety that will bar me from acts of disobedience to You,

وَبَیِّضْ وَجْهِیْ بِنُوْرِكَ

And make my face bright with Your Light,

وَاجْعَلْ رَغْبَتِیْ فِیْمَا عِنْدَكَ

make me desire for that which is with You,

وَتَوَفَّنِیْ فِیْ سَبِیْلِكَ وَعَلٰی مِلَّۃِ رَسُوْلِكَ صَلَّ اللهُ عَلَیْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ

And make me to die in Your path and on the tradition of Your Prophet, Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَعُوْذُبِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَالْفَشَلِ

O Allah, I seek Your protection against laziness, failure,

وَالْهَمِّ وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ

grief, cowardice, stinginess,

وَالْغَفْلَۃِ وَالْقَسْوَۃِ وَالْمَسْكَنَۃِ

obliviousness, harshness, destitution,

وَالْفَقْرِ وَالْفَاقَۃِ

Poverty, neediness,

وَكُلِّ بَلِیَّۃٍ وَالْفَوَاحِشِ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ

and all misfortunes and shameful deeds, those of them which are apparent and those which are hidden.

وَاَعُوْذُبِكَ مِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَقْنَعُ

(My Lord, I also) seek Your protection against a self that is never content,

وَبَطْنٍ لَا یَشْبَعُ

A stomach that is not satiated,

وَقَلْبٍ لَا یَخْشَعُ

A heart that is not in awe

وَدُعَآءٍ لَا یُسْمَعُ

Payers that are not answered,

وَعَمَلٍ لَا یَنْفَعُ

And deeds which bring no benefit.

وَاَعُوْذُبِكَ یَا رَبِّ عَلٰی نَفْسِیْ وَدِیْنِیْ وَمَالِیْ

I ask refuge with You, O Lord, when it comes to my self, my religion, my wealth,

وَعَلٰی جَمِیْعِ مَا رَزَقْتَنِیْ مِنَ الشَّیْطَانِ الرَّجِیْمِ

and all that which You have granted me against the accursed Satan.

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ السَّمِیْعُ الْعَلِیْمُ

Surely, You are the Hearing, the Knowing,

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّهٗ لَا یُجِیْرُنِیْ مِنْكَ اَحَدٌ

O Allah, none can saveme from You,

وَلَا اَجِدُ مِنْ دُوْنِكَ مُلْتَحَدًا

and I can never find any shelter against You.

فَلَا تَجْعَلْ نَفْسِیْ فِیْ شَیْءٍ مِّنْ عَذَابِكَ

So do not admit me into any of Your punishment,

وَلَا تَرُدَّنِیْ بِهَلَكَۃٍ

And do not reject and me and cause me to perish,

وَلَا تَرُدَّنِیْ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِیْمٍ

And do not reject me with painful torture.

اَللّٰهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّیْ

O Allah, accept from me,

وَاَعْلِ ذِكْرِیْ

Elevate my remembrance,

وَاَرْفَعْ دَرَجَتِیْ

And my rank,

وَحُطَّ وِزْرِیْ

Offload my burden from me,

وَلَا تَذْكُرْنِیْ بِخَطِیْئَتِیْ

Do not take remember me by my mistakes,

وَاجْعَلْ ثَوَابَ مَجْلِسِیْ وَثَوَابَ مَنْطِقِیْ وَثَوَابَ دُعَآئِیْ رِضَاكَ وَالْجَنَّۃَ

And make the reward of my sitting, my utterance, And my supplication be Your pleasure and Paradise. and my prayer in Your satisfaction and heaven.

وَاَعْطِنِیْ یَا رَبِّ جَمِیْعَ مَا سَاَلْتُكَ وَزِدْنِیْ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Give me, O Lord, all that which I have asked for from You and grant me more favour,

اِنِّیْ اِلَیْكَ رَاغِبٌ یَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ

for I seek none but You, O Lord of the worlds!

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّكَ اَنْزَلْتَ فِیْ كِتَابِكَ اَنْ نَعْفُوَ عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَنَا

O Allah, You have ordered us in Your book that we should overlook those who wrong us.

وَقَدْ ظَلَمْنَا اَنْفُسَنَا فَاعْفُ عَنَّا فَاِنَّكَ اَوْلٰی بِذٰلِكَ مِنَّا

We have thus wronged ourselves; so, forgive us, for You are worthier of forgiveness than we are.

وَاَمَرْتَنَا اَنْ لَا نَرُدَّ سَآئِلًا عَنْ اَبْوَابِنَا

You have ordered us not to reject any beggar being on our doors.

وَقَدْ جِئْتُكَ سَآئِلًا فَلَا تَرُدَّنِیْ اِلَّا بِقَضَآءِ حَاجَتِیْ

Here I am begging You; so, do not reject me; rather, respond to my need.

وَاَمَرْتَنَا بِالْاِحْسَانِ اِلٰی مَا مَلَكَتْ اَیْمَانُنَا

You have ordered us to act nicely to those under our authorities.

وَنَحْنُ اَرِقَّائُكَ فَاَعْتِقْ رِقَابِنَا مِنَ النَّارِ

We are surely under Your authority; so, release us from Hellfire.

یَا مَفْزَعِیْ عِنْدَكُرْبَتِیْ

O my Shelter whenever I am aggrieved!

وَیَا غَوْثِیْ عِنْدَ شِدَّتِیْ

O my Aid whenever hardships hit me!

اِلَیْكَ فَزِعْتُ

To You have I resorted.

وَبِكَ اسْتَغَثْتُ وَلُذْتُ

With You have I sought refuge and haven.

لَا اَلُوْذُ بِسِوَاكَ

To none save You shall I ever resort.

وَلَا اَطْلُبُ الْفَرَجَ اِلَّا مِنْكَ

From none save You shall I ever seek for relief.

فَاَغِثْنِیْ وَفَرِّجْ عَنِّیْ

So, (please do) aid me and relieve my hardship.

یَا مَنْ یَفُكُّ الْاَسِیْرَ وَیَعْفُوْ عَنِ الْكَثِیْرِ

O He Who accepts the little (deed) and overlooks the much (wrong)!

اِقْبَلْ مِنِّیْ الْیَسِیْرَ وَاعْفُ عَنِّیْ الْكَثِیْرَ

Accept my little (deed) and overlook my much (wrong).

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الرَّحِیْمُ الْغَفُوْرُ

You are certainly the All-merciful, the All-forgiving.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْ اَسْئَلُكَ اِیْمَانًا تُبَاشِرُبِهٖ قَلْبِیْ

O Allah, I pray You for faith that covers my heart

وَیَقِیْنًا صَادِقًا حَتّٰی اَعْلَمُ اَنَّهٗ لَنْ یُصِیْبَنٖی اِلَّا مَا كَتَبْتَ لِیْ

and for honest conviction so that I will believe that nothing will inflict me save that about which You have already known.

وَرَضِّنِی مِنَ الْعَیْشِ بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِیْ

Make me be satisfied with my livelihood that You have decided for me.

یَا اَرْحَمَ الرّٰاحِمِیْنَ.

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
