Another Ziyarah on the Day of Ghadeer

Text and Translation

There is another form of ziyarah mentioned in Iqbal al-Aa’maal by Sayyid Ibn Taaoos who says that Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) is reported to have said:

If you are present at the holy tomb of Imam Ali (a.s.) on the Ghadeer Day, you may come near the tomb and say the following supplicatory prayer. If you are in a remote place, you may point to him after the prayer and say the supplicatory prayer involved:

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى وَلِيِّكَ وَ اَخِيْ نَبِيِّكَ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA WALIYYEKA WA AKHEE NABIYYEKA

O Allah, bless Your close friend (Wali), the brother of Your Prophet,

وَ وَزِيْرِهٖ وَ حَبِيْبِهٖ وَ خَلِيْلِهٖ

WA WAZEEREHI WA HABEEBEHI WA KHALEELEHI

his vizier, his beloved, his intimate friend,

وَ مَوْضِعِ سِرِّهٖ وَ خِيَرَتِهٖ مِنْ اُسْرَتِهٖ

WA MAWZE-E’ SIRREHI WA KHEYARATEHI MIN USRATEHI

the repository of his secret, his chosen one from his family,

وَ وَصِيِّهٖ وَ صَفْوَتِهٖ وَ خَالِصَتِهٖ وَ اَمِيْنِهٖ

WA WASIYYEHI WA SAFWATEHI WA KHAALESATEHI WA AMEENEHI

his executor (Wasi), his elite selection, his sincere friend, his trustee,

وَ وَلِيِّهٖ وَ اَشْرَفِ عِتْرَتِهِ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا بِهٖ

WA WALIYYEHI WA ASHRAFE I’TRATEHIL LAZEENA AAMANOO BEHI

his guardian, and the most noble of his progeny who believed in him;

وَ اَبِيْ ذُرِّيَّتِهٖ وَ بَابِ حِكْمَتِهٖ وَ النَّاطِقِ بِحُجَّتِهٖ

WA ABEE ZURRIYYATEHI WA BAABE HIKMATEHI WAN NAATEQE BE-HUJJATEHI

the father of his offspring, the gate to his wisdom, the speaker with his proof,

وَ الدَّاعِيْ اِلٰى شَرِيْعَتِهٖ وَ الْمَاضِيْ عَلٰى سُنَّتِهٖ

WAD DAA-E’E ELAA SHAREE-A’TEHI WAL MAAZEE A’LAA SUNNATEHI

the caller to his law, the one who persevered upon his practice (Sunnah),

وَ خَلِيْفَتِهٖ عَلٰى اُمَّتِهٖ سَيِّدِ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ

WA KHALEEFATEHI A’LAA UMMATEHI SAYYEDIL MUSLEMEENA

and his successor (Khalifah) over his nation—the Master of the Muslims,

وَ اَمِيْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ قَاۤئِدِ الْغُرِّ الْمُحَجَّلِيْنَ

WA AMEERIL MO-MENEENA WA QAAA-EDIL GHURRIL MOHAJJALEENA

the Commander of the Faithful, and the leader of the radiant, white-faced ones;

اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰى اَحَدٍ مِّنْ خَلْقِكَ

AFZALA MAA SALLAYTA A’LAA AHADIM MIN KHALQEKA

with the most excellent blessings You have ever bestowed upon any of Your creation,

وَ اَصْفِيَاۤئِكَ وَ اَوْصِيَاۤءِ اَنْبِيَاۤئِكَ.

WA ASFEYAAA-EKA WA AWSYAAA-E ANBEYAAA-EKA.

Your chosen ones, or the executors of Your Prophets.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّي اَشْهَدُ اَنَّهٗ قَدْ بَلَّغَ عَنْ نَبِيِّكَ

ALLAAHUMMA INNEE ASH-HADO ANNAHU QAD BALLAGHA A’N NABIYYEKA

O Allah, indeed I bear witness that he conveyed on behalf of Your Prophet

صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهٖ مَا حُمِّلَ وَ رَعٰى مَا اسْتُحْفِظَ

SALLAL LAAHO A’LAYHE WA AALEHI MAA HUMMELA WA RA-A’A MASTOHFEZA

may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, what he was charged with,

وَ حَفِظَ مَا اسْتُوْدِعَ وَ حَلَّلَ حَلَالَكَ وَ حَرَّمَ حَرَامَكَ

WA HAFEZA MASTOODE-A’ WA HALLALA HALAALAKA WA HARRAMA HARAAMAKA

safeguarded what he was asked to protect, preserved what was entrusted to him, declared lawful Your lawful matters, declared forbidden Your forbidden matters,

وَ اَقَامَ اَحْكَامَكَ وَ دَعَا اِلٰى سَبِيْلِكَ

WA AQAAMA AHKAAMAKA WA DA-A’A ELAA SABEELEKA

established Your laws, called to Your path,

وَ وَالٰى اَوْلِيَاۤئَكَ وَ عَادٰى اَعْدَاۤئَكَ

WA WAALAA AWLEYAAA-AKA WA A’ADAA A-A’DAAA-AKA

befriended Your close friends, opposed Your enemies,

وَ جَاهَدَ النَّاكِثِيْنَ عَنْ سَبِيْلِكَ

WA JAAHADAN NAAKESEENA A’N SABEELEKA

and fought those who broke their allegiance from Your path,

وَ الْقَاسِطِيْنَ وَ الْمَارِقِيْنَ عَنْ اَمْرِكَ

WAL QAASETEENA WAL MAAREQEENA A’N AMREKA

those who acted unjustly, and those who apostatized from Your command;

صَابِرًا مُّحْتَسِبًا مُّقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ

SAABERAM MOHTASEBAM MUQBELAN GHAYRA MUDBERIL

doing so patiently, seeking Your reward, advancing forward and never turning back,

لَّا تَأْخُذُهٗ فِي اللّٰهِ لَوْمَةُ لَاۤئِمٍ حَتّٰى بَلَغَ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ الرِّضَا

LAA TAA-KHOZOHU FILLAAHE LAWMATO LAAA-EMIN HATTAA BALAGHA FEE ZAALEKAR REZAA

never swayed in [the service of] Allah by the blame of any blamer, until he reached Your satisfaction in that,

وَ سَلَّمَ اِلَيْكَ الْقَضَاۤءَ وَ عَبَدَكَ مُخْلِصًا

WA SALLAMA ELAYKAL QAZAAA-A WA A’BADAKA MUKHLESAN

submitted the decree to You, worshipped You with absolute sincerity,

وَ نَصَحَ لَكَ مُجْتَهِدًا حَتّٰى اَتَاهُ الْيَقِيْنُ

WA NASAHA LAKA MUJTAHEDAN HATTAA ATAAHUL YAQEENO

and counseled for Your sake with ultimate effort until certainty [death] came to him.

فَقَبَضْتَهٗ اِلَيْكَ شَهِيْدًا سَعِيْدًا

FA-QABAZTAHU ELAYKA SHAHEEDAN SA-E’EDANW

Thus, You took him to Yourself as a martyr, felicitous,

وَّلِيًّا تَقِيًّا رَضِيًّا زَكِيًّا هَادِيًا مَّهْدِيًّا

WALIYYAN TAQIYYAN RAZIYYAN ZAKIYYAN HAADEYAM MAHDIYYAN

a close friend, God-fearing, well-pleased, pure, a guide, and rightly-guided.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَيْهِ

ALLAAHUMMA SALLE A’LAA MOHAMMADINW WA A’LAYHE

O Allah, bless Muhammad and bless him,

اَفْضَلَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰى اَحَدٍ مِّنْ اَنْبِيَاۤئِكَ

AFZALA MAA SALLAYTA A’LAA AHADIM MIN ANBEYAAA-EKA

with the most excellent blessings You have ever bestowed upon any of Your Prophets
