(9) Munajat for Thanksgiving

Text and Translation

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ

allahumma laka alhamdu

O Allah, all praise be to You

عَلَىٰ مَرَدِّ نَوَازِلِ ٱلْبَلاَءِ

`ala maraddi nawazili albala'i

for driving away the imminent misfortunes

وَمُلِمَّاتِ ٱلضَّرَّاءِ

wa mulimmati alddarra'i

and the wrapping harms,

وَكَشْفِ نَوَائِبِ ٱللَّاوَاءِ

wa kashfi nawa'ibi alla'wa'i

for relieving from the calamitous hardships,

وَتَوَالِي سُبُوغِ ٱلنَّعْمَاءِ

wa tawali subughi alnna`ma'i

and for the succession of the profuse blessings.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ هَنِيءِ عَطَائِكَ

wa laka alhamdu `ala hani'i `ata'ika

All praise be to You for Your pleasant bestowals,

وَمَحْمُودِ بَلاَئِكَ

wa mahmudi bala'ika

praiseworthy conferrals,

وَجَلِيلِ آلاَئِكَ

wa jalili ala'ika

and great boons.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ إِحْسَانِكَ ٱلْكَثِيرِ

wa laka alhamdu `ala ihsanika alkathiri

All praise be to You for Your very much benevolence,

وَخَيْرِكَ ٱلْغَزِيرِ

wa khayrika alghaziri

torrential welfare,

وَتَكْلِيفِكَ ٱلْيَسِيرِ

wa taklifika alyasiri

and easy-to-do obligations

وَدَفْعِ ٱلْعَسِيرِ

wa daf`i al`asiri

and for Your driving away the difficulties.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ يَا رَبِّ

wa laka alhamdu ya rabbi

All praise be to You, O Lord,

عَلَىٰ تَثْمِيرِكَ قَلِيلَ ٱلشُّكْرِ

`ala tathmirika qalila alshshukri

for multiplying the little thanksgiving,

وَإِعْطَائِكَ وَافِرَ ٱلاجْرِ

wa i`ta'ika wafira al-ajri

enduing with abundant rewards,

وَحَطِّكَ مُثْقَلَ ٱلْوِزْرِ

wa hattika muthqala alwizri

excusing the heavy burdens,

وَقَبُولِكَ ضَيِّقَ ٱلْعُذْرِ

wa qabulika dayyiqa al`udhri

accepting the improper apologies,

وَوَضْعِكَ بَاهِضَ ٱلإِصْرِ

wa wad`ika bahida al-isri

lessening the exorbitant loads,

وَتَسْهِيلِكَ مَوْضِعَ ٱلْوَعْرِ

wa tas-hilika mawdi`a alwa`ri

making easy the difficult situations,

وَمَنْعِكَ مُفْظِعَ ٱلامْرِ

wa man`ika mufzi`a al-amri

and dispelling the horrible matters.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْبَلاَءِ ٱلْمَصْرُوفِ

wa laka alhamdu `ala albala'i almasrufi

All praise be to You for Your dispelling the misfortunes,

وَوَافِرِ ٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

wa wafiri alma`rufi

Your granting abundant charity,

وَدَفْعِ ٱلْمَخُوفِ

wa daf`i almakhufi

Your driving away the terrifying matters,

وَإِذْلاَلِ ٱلْعَسُوفِ

wa idhlali al`asufi

and Your facilitating the oppressive issues.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ قِلَّةِ ٱلتَّكْلِيفِ

wa laka alhamdu `ala qillati alttaklifi

All praise be to You for the little mandates,

وَكَثْرَةِ ٱلتَّخْفِيفِ

wa kathrati alttakhfifi

the much alleviation,

وَتَقْوِيَةِ ٱلضَّعِيفِ

wa taqwiyati aldda`ifi

the strengthening of the feeble,

وَإِغَاثَةِ ٱللَّهِيفِ

wa ighathati allahifi

and the assisting of the distressed.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ سَعَةِ إِمْهَالِكَ

wa laka alhamdu `ala sa`ati imhalika

All praise be to You for Your long-term respite,

وَدَوَامِ إِفْضَالِكَ

wa dawami ifdalika

Your incessant favoring,

وَصَرْفِ إِمْحَالِكَ

wa sarfi imhalika

Your chasing off fruitlessness,

وَحَمِيدِ افْعَالِكَ

wa hamidi af`alika

Your praiseworthy deeds,

وَتَوَالِي نَوَالِكَ

wa tawali nawalika

and Your continuous donations.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ تَاخِيرِ مُعَاجَلَةِ ٱلْعِقَابِ

wa laka alhamdu `ala ta'khiri mu`ajalati al`iqabi

All praise be to You for putting off the looming punishment,

وَتَرْكِ مُغَافَصَةِ ٱلْعَذَابِ

wa tarki mughafasati al`adhabi

shunning sudden chastisement,

وَتَسْهِيلِ طَرِيقِ ٱلْمَآبِ

wa tas-hili tariqi alma'abi

paving the way back to You,

وَإِنْزَالِ غَيْثِ ٱلسَّحَابِ

wa inzali ghaythi alssahabi

and sending down the rain of the clouds.

إِنَّكَ ٱلْمَنَّانُ ٱلْوَهَّابُ

innaka almannanu alwahhabu

Verily, You are the All-tender, the All-donor.
