Surah Abasa (He Frowned)
This Surah has 42 verses and it was revealed in Makkah. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) that the person who recites this Surah will come out of his grave laughing on the Day of Resurrection.
Writing this Surah as a talisman on deerskin and keeping it in one’s possession makes one successful in all his endeavours. If it is recited during a journey, then the traveller will return home safely. Whoever recites this Surah with Surah at-Takweer will be under the shade of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) in Jannah.
Text and Translation
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate
A’BASA WA TAWALLAA.
(The Prophet) frowned and turned away,
AN JAAA-AHUL A-A’MAA.
Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).
WA MAA YUDREEKA LA-A’LLAHU YAZZAKKAA.
But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?
AW YAZZAKKARO FATANFA-A’HUZ ZIKRAA.
Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?
AMMAA MANIS TAGHNAA.
As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,
FA-ANTA LAHU TASADDAA.
To him dost thou attend;
WA MAA A’LAYKA ALLAA YAZZAKKAA.
Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).
WA AMMAA MAN JAAA-A-KA YAS-A’A.
But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,
WA HOWA YAKHSHAA.
And with fear (in his heart),
FA-ANTA A’NHO TALAHHAA.
Of him wast thou unmindful.
KALLAA INNAHAA TAZKERAH.
By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:
FAMAN SHAA-A ZAKARAH.
Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.
FEE SOHOFIM MOKARRAMATIM.
(It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,
MARFOO-A’TIM MOTAHHARATIM.
Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,
BE-AYDEE SAFARATIN.
(Written) by the hands of scribes-
KERAAMIM BARARAH.
Honourable and Pious and Just.
QOTELAL INSAANO MAA AKFARAH.
Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah;
MIN AYYE SHAY-IN KHALAQAH.
From what stuff hath He created him?
MIN NUTFAH, KHALAQAHU FAQADDARAHU.
From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;
SUMMAS SABEELA YASSARAHU.
Then doth He make His path smooth for him;
SUMMA AMAATAHU FA-AQBARAHU.
Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;
SUMMA EZAA SHAA-A ANSHARAH.
Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).
KALLAA LAMMAA YAQZE MAA AMARAH.
By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.
FAL-YANZORIL INSAANO ELAA TA-A’AMEH.
Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):
ANNAA SABABNAL MAAA-A SABBAA.
For that We pour forth water in abundance,
SUMMA SHAQAQNAN ARZA SHAQQAA.
