Merits
Surah al-Mursalaat (The Emissaries)
This is a ‘Makki’ Surah and it has 50 verses. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) has said that the one who recites this Surah will not be counted from the polytheists. He will always be victorious over his enemy.
It is narrated from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a.s.) that drinking this Surah after it is written, and then dissolved in water that is mixed with the water from an onion, acts as a cure from aches and pains. Keeping this Surah, written on deerskin, as a talisman, enables one to reduce the amount of time he sleeps and he will be able to stay awake for a longer time.
Text and Translation
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM
In the Name of Allah, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate
وَالْمُرْسَلٰتِ عُرْفًا ۙ(1)
By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit);
فَالْعٰصِفٰتِ عَصْفًا ۙ(2)
Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts,
وَّالنّٰشِرٰتِ نَشْرًا ۙ(3)
And scatter (things) far and wide;
فَالْفٰرِقٰتِ فَرْقًا ۙ(4)
Then separate them, one from another,
فَالْمُلْقِيٰتِ ذِكْرًا ۙ(5)
Then spread abroad a Message,
عُذْرًا اَوْ نُذْرًا ۙ(6)
Whether of Justification or of Warning;-
اِنَّمَا تُوْعَدُوْنَ لَوَاقِعٌ ؕ(7)
Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.
فَاِذَا النُّجُوْمُ طُمِسَتْۙ(8)
Then when the stars become dim;
وَ اِذَا السَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْۙ(9)
When the heaven is cleft asunder;
وَاِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْۙ(10)
When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust;
وَاِذَا الرُّسُلُ اُقِّتَتْؕ(11)
And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect);-
لِاَىِّ يَوْمٍ اُجِّلَتْؕ(12)
For what Day are these (portents) deferred?
لِيَوْمِ الْفَصْلِۚ(13)
For the Day of Sorting out.
وَمَاۤ اَدْرٰٮكَ مَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِؕ(14)
And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out?
وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ(15)
Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
اَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْاَوَّلِيْنَؕ(16)
Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?
ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْاٰخِرِيْنَ(17)
So shall We make later (generations) follow them.
كَذٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِيْنَ(18)
Thus do We deal with men of sin.
وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ(19)
Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
اَلَمْ نَخْلُقْكُّمْ مِّنْ مَّآءٍ مَّهِيْنٍۙ(20)
Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?
فَجَعَلْنٰهُ فِىْ قَرَارٍ مَّكِيْنٍۙ(21)
The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,
اِلٰى قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍۙ(22)
For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?
فَقَدَرْنَاۖ فَنِعْمَ الْقٰدِرُوْنَ(23)
For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).
وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ(24)
Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth!
اَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْاَرْضَ كِفَاتًا ۙ(25)
Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together.
اَحْيَآءً وَّاَمْوَاتًا ۙ(26)
The living and the dead,
وَّجَعَلْنَا فِيْهَا رَوَاسِىَ شٰمِخٰتٍ وَّ اَسْقَيْنٰكُمْ مَّآءً فُرَاتًا ؕ(27)
And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?
وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ(28)
Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
اِنْطَلِقُوْۤا اِلٰى مَا كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَۚ(29)
(It will be said:) “Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!
اِنْطَلِقُوْۤا اِلٰى ظِلٍّ ذِىْ ثَلٰثِ شُعَبٍۙ(30)
“Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,
لَّا ظَلِيْلٍ وَّلَا يُغْنِىْ مِنَ اللَّهَبِؕ(31)
“(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.
اِنَّهَا تَرْمِىْ بِشَرَرٍ كَالْقَصْرِۚ(32)
“Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,
كَاَنَّهٗ جِمٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ ؕ(33)
“As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly).”
وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ(34)
Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
هٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنْطِقُوْنَۙ(35)
That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak.
وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُوْنَ(36)
Nor will it be open to them to put forth pleas.
وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ(37)
Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
هٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِۚ جَمَعْنٰكُمْ وَالْاَوَّلِيْنَ(38)
That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!
فَاِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيْدُوْنِ(39)
