Text and Translation
allahumma inni qasadtu ilayka bi'ikhlasi tawbatin nasuhin
O Allah, I have come to You with the integrity of a sincere repentance,
wa tathbiti `aqdin sahihin
the confirmation of a valid determination,
wa du`a'i qalbin qarihin
the prayer of a limpid heart,
wa i`lani qawlin sarihin
and the declaration of a clear-cut statement.
allahumma fataqabbal minni mukhlasa alttawbati
So, O Allah, accept from me the sincere repentance of me,
wa iqbala sari`i al-awbati
the approaching of my swift turning to You,
wa masari`a takhashshu`i alhawbati
and the deadly blows of my fear of Your punishment.
wa qabil rabbi tawbati bijazili alththawabi
O my Lord, meet my repentance with abundant reward,
wa karimi alma'abi
generous final return,
wa hatti al`iqabi
absolvement of castigation,
wa sarfi al`adhabi
warding off penalty,
wa ghunmi al-iyabi
winning of returning to You,
wa sitri alhijabi
and covering with screen [against sinning].
wamhu allahumma ma thabata min dhunubi
O Allah, erase my fixed sins,
waghsil biqabuliha jami`a `uyubi
wash out all my defects by accepting my repentance,
waj`alha jaliyatan liqalbi
shakhisatan libasirati lubbi
to diagnose the insight of my mind,
ghasilatan lidarani
to rinse my filth,
mutahhiratan linajasati badani
to purify my bodily impurity,
musahhihatan fiha damiri
to set aright my inner self,
`ajilatan ila alwafa'i biha basirati
and to urge my insight to act upon it [i.e. my repentance] immediately.
waqbal ya rabbi tawbati
O my Lord, admit my repentance,
fa'innaha tasduru min ikhlasi niyyati
because it emanates from my sincere intention
wa mahdin min tashihi basirati
and from the most accurate and purest form of my perception.
wahtifalan fi tawiyyati
It [i.e. my repentance] also involves perfect determination of my inner self,
wajtihadan fi naqa'i sarirati
an attempt to keep my soul pure,
wa tathbitan li'inabati
