Text and Translation

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

BISMIL LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

الٓمّٓ ۚ‏(1)

ALIF LAAAM MEEM.

Alif, Lam, Meem.

غُلِبَتِ الرُّوْمُۙ‏(2)

GHOLEBATIR ROOMO.

The Byzantines has been vanquished

فِىْۤ اَدْنَى الْاَرْضِ وَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُوْنَۙ‏(3)

FEE ADNAL ARZE WA HUM MIM BA’DE GHALABEHIM SAYAGHLEBOONA.

in a nearby land, but they, after their defeat, will be victorious

فِىْ بِضْعِ سِنِيْنَ ؕ لِلّٰهِ الْاَمْرُ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْۢ بَعْدُ ؕ وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَّفْرَحُ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ ۙ‏(4)

FEE BIZ-E’ SENEEN, LILLAAHIL AMRO MIN QABLO WA MIM BA’D, WA YAWMA-EZINY YAFRAHUL MOAMENOONA.

in a few years. All command belongs to Allah, before this and hereafter, and on that day the faithful will rejoice

بِنَصْرِ اللّٰهِؕ يَنْصُرُ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ ؕ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيْزُ الرَّحِيْمُۙ‏(5)

BE-NASRIL LAAH, YANSORO MANY YASHAAA, WA HOWAL A’ZEEZUR RAHEEMO.

at Allah’s help. He helps whomever He wishes, and He is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.

وَعْدَ اللّٰهِؕ لَا يُخْلِفُ اللّٰهُ وَعْدَهٗ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ‏(6)

WA’DAL LAAH, LAA YUKHLEFUL LAAHO WA’DAHU WA LAAKINNA AKSARAN NAASE LAA YA’LAMOON.

[This is] a promise of Allah: Allah does not break His promise, but most people do not know.

يَعْلَمُوْنَ ظَاهِرًا مِّنَ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۖۚ وَهُمْ عَنِ الْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ غٰفِلُوْنَ‏(7)

YA’LAMOONA ZAAHERAM MENAL HAYAATID DUNYAA, WA HUM A’NIL AAKHERATE HUM GHAAFELOON.

They know just an outward aspect of the life of the world, but they are oblivious of the Hereafter.

اَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُوْا فِىْۤ اَنْفُسِهِمْ مَا خَلَقَ اللّٰهُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَاۤ اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَاَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّىؕ وَ اِنَّ كَثِيْرًا مِّنَ النَّاسِ بِلِقَآئِ رَبِّهِمْ لَكٰفِرُوْنَ‏(8)

AWA LAM YATAFAKKAROO FEE ANFOSEHIM, MAA KHALAQAL LAAHUS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZA WA MAA BAYNAHOMAA ILLAA BIL-HAQQE WA AJALIM MOSAMMAA, WA INNA KASEERAM MENAN NAASE BE-LEQAAA-EE RABBEHIM LAKAAFEROON.

Have they not reflected in their own souls? Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except with consummate wisdom and for a specified term. Indeed many people disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord.

اَوَلَمْ يَسِيْرُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوْا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْؕ كَانُوْۤا اَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَّاَثَارُوا الْاَرْضَ وَعَمَرُوْهَاۤ اَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوْهَا وَجَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ ؕ فَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلٰكِنْ كَانُوْۤا اَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُوْنَ ؕ‏(9)

AWALAM YASEEROO FIL ARZE FAYANZOROO KAYFA KAANA A’AQEBATUL LAZEENA MIN QABLEHIM, KAANOO ASHADDA MINHUM QUWWATANW WA AASAARUL ARZA WA A’MAROOHAA AKSARA MIMMAA A’MAROOHAA WA JAAA-ATHUM ROSOLOHUM BIL-BAYYENAAT, FAMAA KAANAL LAAHO LE-YAZLEMAHUM WA LAAKIN KAANOO ANFOSAHUM YAZLEMOON.

Have they not travelled in the land and seen how was the fate of those who were before them? They were more powerful than them, and they plowed the earth and developed it more than they have developed it. Their apostles brought them manifest proofs. So it was not Allah who wronged them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves.

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَاقِبَةَ الَّذِيْنَ اَسَآءُوا السُّوْٓآٰى اَنْ كَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَكَانُوْا بِهَا يَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ‏(10)

SUMMA KAANA A’AQEBATAL LAZEENA ASAAA-US SOOO-AA AN KAZZABOO BE-AAYAATIL LAAHE WA KAANOO BEHAA YASTAHZEOON.

Then the fate of those who committed misdeeds was that they denied the signs of Allah and they used to deride them.

اَللّٰهُ يَبْدَؤُا الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيْدُهٗ ثُمَّ اِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ‏(11)

ALLAAHO YABDA-UL KHALQA SUMMA YO-E’EDOHU SUMMA ELAYHE TURJA-O’ON.

Allah originates the creation, then He will bring it back, then you will be brought back to Him.

وَيَوْمَ تَقُوْمُ السَّاعَةُ يُبْلِسُ الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ‏(12)

WA YAWMA YAQOOMUS SAA-A’TO YUBLESUL MUJREMOON.

And when the Hour sets in, the guilty will despair.

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَّهُمْ مِّنْ شُرَكَآئِهِمْ شُفَعٰٓؤُا وَكَانُوْا بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ كٰفِرِيْنَ‏(13)

WA LAM YAKUL LAHUM MIN SHORAKAAA-EHIM SHO-FA-A’AA-OO WA KAANOO BE-SHORAKAAA-EHIM KAAFEREEN.

None of those whom they ascribed as partners [to Allah] will intercede for them, and they will disavow their partners.

وَيَوْمَ تَقُوْمُ السَّاعَةُ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَّتَفَرَّقُوْنَ‏(14)

WA YAWMA TAQOOMUS SAA-A’TO YAWMA-EZINY YATAFARRAQOON.

The day the Hour sets in, they will be divided on that day [in separate groups]:

فَاَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَهُمْ فِىْ رَوْضَةٍ يُّحْبَرُوْنَ‏(15)

FA-AMMAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA A’MELUS SAALEHAATE FAHUM FEE RAWZATINY YOHBAROON.

As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, they shall be in a garden, rejoicing.

وَاَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا وَكَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا وَلِقَآئِ الْاٰخِرَةِ فَاُولٰٓئِكَ فِى الْعَذَابِ مُحْضَرُوْنَ‏(16)

WA AMMAL LAZEENA KAFAROO WA KAZZABOO BE-AAYAATENAA WA LEQAAA-IL AAKHERATE FA-OOLAAA-EKA FIL A’ZAABE MOHZAROON.

But as for those who were faithless and denied Our signs and the encounter of the Hereafter, they will be brought to the punishment.

فَسُبْحٰنَ اللّٰهِ حِيْنَ تُمْسُوْنَ وَحِيْنَ تُصْبِحُوْنَ‏(17)

FA-SUBHAANAL LAAHE HEENA TUMSOONA WA HEENA TUSBEHOON.

So glorify Allah when you enter evening and when you rise at dawn.

وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِىْ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَعَشِيًّا وَّحِيْنَ تُظْهِرُوْنَ‏(18)

WA LAHUL HAMDO FIS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZE WA A’SHIYYANW WA HEENA TUZHEROON.

To Him belongs all praise in the heavens and the earth, at nightfall and when you enter noontime.

يُخْرِجُ الْحَىَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ الْمَيِّتَ مِنَ الْحَىِّ وَيُحْىِ الْاَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَاؕ وَكَذٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُوْنَ‏(19)

YUKHREJUL HAYYA MENAL MAYYETE WA YUKHREJUL MAYYETA MENAL HAYYE WA YOHYIL ARZA BA’DA MAWTEHAA, WA KAZAALEKA TUKHRAJOON.

He brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living, and revives the earth after its death. Likewise, you [too] shall be raised [from the dead].

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖۤ اَنْ خَلَقَكُمْ مِّنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ اِذَاۤ اَنْتُمْ بَشَرٌ تَنْتَشِرُوْنَ‏(20)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI AN KHALAQAKUM MIN TORAABIN SUMMA EZAA ANTUM BASHARUN TANTASHEROON.

Of His signs is that He created you from dust, then, behold, you are humans scattering [all over]!

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖۤ اَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مِّنْ اَنْفُسِكُمْ اَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوْۤا اِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُمْ مَّوَدَّةً وَّرَحْمَةً ؕ اِنَّ فِىْ ذٰ لِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَّتَفَكَّرُوْنَ‏(21)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI AN KHALAQA LAKUM MIN ANFOSEKUM AZWAAJAL LETASKONOO ELAYHAA WA JA-A’LA BAYNAKUM MAWADDATAN WA RAHMAH, INNA FEE ZAALEKA LA-AAYAATIL LE-QAWMINY YATAFAKKAROON.

And of His signs is that He created for you mates from your own selves that you may take comfort in them, and He ordained affection and mercy between you. There are indeed signs in that for a people who reflect.

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖ خَلْقُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافُ اَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَاَلْوَانِكُمْؕ اِنَّ فِىْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّلْعٰلِمِيْنَ‏(22)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI KHALQUS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZE WAKH TELAAFO ALSENATEKUM WA ALWAANEKUM, INNA FEE ZAALEKA LA-AAYAATIL LIL-A’ALAMEEN.

Among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. There are indeed signs in that for those who know.

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖ مَنَامُكُمْ بِالَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَابْتِغَآؤُكُمْ مِّنْ فَضْلِهٖؕ اِنَّ فِىْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَّسْمَعُوْنَ‏(23)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI MANAAMOKUM BIL-LAYLE WAN NAHAARE WAB TEGHAAA-OKUM MIN FAZLEH, INNA FEE ZAALEKA LA-AAYAATIL LEQAWMINY YASMA-O’ON.

And of His signs is your sleep by night and day, and your pursuit of His bounty. There are indeed signs in that for a people who listen.

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖ يُرِيْكُمُ الْبَرْقَ خَوْفًا وَّطَمَعًا وَّيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَيُحْىٖ بِهِ الْاَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ؕ اِنَّ فِىْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَّعْقِلُوْنَ‏(24)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI YOREEKOMUL BARQA KHAWFANW WA TAMA-A’NW WA YONAZZELO MENAS SAMAAA-E MAAA-AN FAYOHYEE BEHIL ARZA BA’DA MAWTEHAA, INNA FEE ZAALEKA LA-AAYAATIL LE-QAWMINY YA’QELOON.

And of His signs is that He shows you the lightning, arousing fear and hope, and He sends down water from the sky, and with it revives the earth after its death. There are indeed signs in that for people who exercise their reason.

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖۤ اَنْ تَقُوْمَ السَّمَآءُ وَالْاَرْضُ بِاَمْرِهٖ ؕ ثُمَّ اِذَا دَعَاكُمْ دَعْوَةً ۖ مِّنَ الْاَرْضِ ۖ اِذَاۤ اَنْتُمْ تَخْرُجُوْنَ‏(25)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI AN TAQOOMAS SAMAAA-O WAL ARZO BE-AMREH, SUMMA EZAA DA-A’AKUM DA’WATAM, MENAL ARZ, EZAA ANTUM TUKHRAJOON.

And of His signs is that the sky and the earth stand by His command, and then, when He calls you forth from the earth, behold, you will come forth.

وَلَهٗ مَنْ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِؕ كُلٌّ لَّهٗ قٰنِتُوْنَ‏(26)

WA LAHU MAN FIS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZ, KULLUL LAHU QAANETOON.

To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. All are obedient to Him.

وَهُوَ الَّذِىْ يَبْدَؤُا الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيْدُهٗ وَهُوَ اَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِؕ وَلَهُ الْمَثَلُ الْاَعْلٰى فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيْزُ الْحَكِيْمُ‏(27)

WA HOWAL LAZEE YABDAUL KHALQA SUMMA YO-E’EDOHU WA HOWA AHWANO A’LAYH, WA LAHUL MASALUL A-A’LAA FIS SAMAAWAATE WAL ARZ, WA HOWAL A’ZEEZUL HAKEEM.

It is He who originates the creation, and then He will bring it back—and that is more simple for Him. His is the loftiest description in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.

ضَرَبَ لَكُمْ مَّثَلًا مِّنْ اَنْفُسِكُمْؕ هَلْ لَّكُمْ مِّنْ مَّا مَلَكَتْ اَيْمَانُكُمْ مِّنْ شُرَكَآءَ فِىْ مَا رَزَقْنٰكُمْ فَاَنْتُمْ فِيْهِ سَوَآءٌ تَخَافُوْنَهُمْ كَخِيْفَتِكُمْ اَنْفُسَكُمْؕ كَذٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْاٰيٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَّعْقِلُوْنَ‏(28)

ZARABA LAKUM MASALAM MIN ANFOSEKUM, HAL LAKUM MIM MAA MALAKAT AYMAANOKUM MIN SHORA-KAAA-A FEE MAA RAZAQNAAKUM FA-ANTUM FEEHE SAWAAA-UN TAKHAAFOONAHUM KA-KHEFATEKUM ANFOSAKUM, KAZAALEKA NOFASSELUL AAYAATE LE-QAWMINY YA’QELOON.

He draws for you an example from yourselves: Do you have among your slaves any partners [who may share] in what We have provided you, so that you are equal in its respect, and you revere them as you revere one another? Thus do We elaborate the signs for people who exercise their reason.

بَلِ اتَّبَعَ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْۤا اَهْوَآءَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍۚ فَمَنْ يَّهْدِىْ مَنْ اَضَلَّ اللّٰهُؕ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِّنْ نّٰصِرِيْنَ‏(29)

BALIT TABA-A’L LAZEENA ZALAMOO AHWAAA-AHUM BEGHAYRE I’LM, FAMANY YAHDEE MAN AZALLAL LAAH, WA MAA LAHUM MIN NAASEREEN.

Indeed, the wrongdoers follow their own desires without any knowledge. So who will guide those whom Allah has led astray? They will have no helpers.

فَاَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّيْنِ حَنِيْفًا ؕ فِطْرَتَ اللّٰهِ الَّتِىْ فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا ؕ لَا تَبْدِيْلَ لِخَلْقِ اللّٰهِ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ الدِّيْنُ الْقَيِّمُ ۙ  وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ۙ ‏(30)

FA-AQIM WAJHAKA LID-DEENE HANEEFAA, FITRATAL LAAHIL LATEE FATARAN NAASA A’LAYHAA, LAA TABDEELA LE-KHALQIL LAAH, ZAALEKAD DEENUL QAYYEM, WA LAAKINNA AKSARAN NAASE LAA YA’LAMOON.

So set your heart as a person of pure faith on this religion, the original nature endowed by Allah according to which He originated mankind (There is no altering Allah’s creation; that is the upright religion, but most people do not know.)

مُنِيْبِيْنَ اِلَيْهِ وَاتَّقُوْهُ وَاَقِيْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَلَا تَكُوْنُوْا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَۙ‏(31)

MONEEBEENA ELAYHE WAT TAQOOHO WA AQEEMUS SALAATA WA LAA TAKOONOO MENAL MUSHREKEENA.

—turning to Him in penitence, and be wary of Him, and maintain the prayer, and do not be one of the polytheists

مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ فَرَّقُوْا دِيْنَهُمْ وَكَانُوْا شِيَعًا ؕ كُلُّ حِزْبٍۢ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُوْنَ‏(32)

MENAL LAZEENA FARRAQOO DEENAHUM WA KAANOO SHE-YA-A’A, KULLO HIZBIM BEMAA LADAYHIM FAREEHOON.

—those who split up their religion and became sects: each faction boasting about what it possessed.

وَاِذَا مَسَّ النَّاسَ ضُرٌّ دَعَوْا رَبَّهُمْ مُّنِيْبِيْنَ اِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ اِذَاۤ اَذَاقَهُمْ مِّنْهُ رَحْمَةً اِذَا فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْهُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُوْنَۙ‏(33)

WA EZAA MASSAN NAASA ZURRUN DA-A’W RABBAHUM MONEEBEENA ELAYHE SUMMA EZAA AZAAQAHUM MINHO RAHMATAN EZAA FAREEQUM MINHUM BE-RABBEHIM YUSHREKOONA.

When distress befalls people, they supplicate their Lord, turning to Him in penitence. Then, when He lets them taste His mercy, behold, a part of them ascribe partners to their Lord,

لِيَكْفُرُوْا بِمَاۤ اٰتَيْنٰهُمْؕ فَتَمَتَّعُوْا فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُوْنَ‏(34)

LEYAKFOROO BEMAA AATAYNAAHUM, FATAMATTAO’O, FASAWFA TA’LAMOON.

being ungrateful toward what We have given them. So let them enjoy. Soon they will know!

اَمْ اَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطٰنًا فَهُوَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا كَانُوْا بِهٖ يُشْرِكُوْنَ‏(35)

AM ANZALNAA A’LAYHIM SULTAANAN FAHOWA YATAKALLAMO BEMAA KAANOO BEHI YUSHREKOON.

Have We sent down to them any authority which might assert what they associate with Him?

وَاِذَاۤ اَذَقْنَا النَّاسَ رَحْمَةً فَرِحُوْا بِهَاؕ وَاِنْ تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ ۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ اَيْدِيْهِمْ اِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُوْنَ‏(36)

WA EZAA AZAQNAN NAASA RAHMATAN FAREHOO BEHAA, WA IN TOSIBHUM SAYYE-ATUM BEMAA QADDAMAT AYDEEHIM EZAA HUM YAQNATOON.

When We let people taste [Our] mercy, they boast about it; but should an ill visit them because of what their hands have sent ahead, behold, they become despondent!

اَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُؕ اِنَّ فِىْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُّؤْمِنُوْنَ‏(37)

AWA LAM YARAW ANNAL LAAHA YABSOTUR RIZQA LEMANY YASHAAA-O WA YAQDER, INNA FEE ZAALEKA LA-AAYAATIL LEQAWMINY YOAMENOON.

Do they not see that Allah expands the provision for whomever He wishes, and tightens it? There are indeed signs in that for a people who have faith.

فَاٰتِ ذَا الْقُرْبٰى حَقَّهٗ وَ الْمِسْكِيْنَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيْلِؕ ذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِيْنَ يُرِيْدُوْنَ وَجْهَ اللّٰهِ وَاُولٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُوْنَ‏(38)

FA-AATE ZAL QURBAA HAQQAHU WAL MISKEENA WAB NAS SABEEL, ZAALEKA KHAYRUL LIL-LAZEENA YOREEDOONA WAJHAL LAAH, WA OOLAAA-EKA HOMUL MUFLEHOON.

Give the relative his due, and the needy and the traveller [as well]. That is better for those who seek Allah’s pleasure, and it is they who are the felicitous.

وَمَاۤ اٰتَيْتُمْ مِّنْ رِّبًا لِّيَرْبُوَا۟ فِىْۤ اَمْوَالِ النَّاسِ فَلَا يَرْبُوْا عِنْدَ اللّٰهِۚ وَمَاۤ اٰتَيْتُمْ مِّنْ زَكٰوةٍ تُرِيْدُوْنَ وَجْهَ اللّٰهِ فَاُولٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْمُضْعِفُوْنَ‏(39)

WA MAA AATAYTUM MIR REBAL LEYARBOWA FEE AMWAALIN NAASE FALAA YARBOO I’NDAL LAAH, WA MAAA AATAYTUM MIN ZAKAATIN TOREEDOONA WAJHAL LAAHE FA-OOLAAA-EKA HOMUL MUZ-E’FOON.

What you give in usury in order that it may increase people’s wealth does not increase with Allah. But what you pay as zakat seeking Allah’s pleasure—it is they who will be given a manifold increase.

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِىْ خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ رَزَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيْكُمْ ؕ هَلْ مِنْ شُرَكَآئِكُمْ مَّنْ يَّفْعَلُ مِنْ ذٰ لِكُمْ مِّنْ شَىْءٍؕ سُبْحٰنَهٗ وَتَعٰلٰى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُوْنَ‏(40)

ALLAAHUL LAZEE KHALAQAKUM SUMMA RAZAQAKUM SUMMA YOMEETOKUM SUMMA YOHYEEKUM, HAL MIN SHORAKAAA-EKUM MANY YAF-A’LO MIN ZAALEKUM MIN SHAY, SUBHAANAHU WA TA-A’ALAA A’MMAA YUSHREKOON.

It is Allah who created you and then He provided for you, then He makes you die, then He will bring you to life. Is there anyone among your ‘partners’ who does anything of that kind? Immaculate is He and exalted above [having] any partners that they ascribe [to Him]!

ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِى الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ اَيْدِى النَّاسِ لِيُذِيْقَهُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِىْ عَمِلُوْا لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُوْنَ‏(41)

ZAHARAL FASAADO FIL BARRE WAL BAHRE BEMAA KASABAT AYDIN NAASE LEYOZEEQAHUM BA’ZAL LAZEE A’MELOO LA-A’LLAHUM YARJE-O’ON.

Corruption has appeared in land and sea because of the doings of the people’s hands, that He may make them taste something of what they have done, so that they may come back.

قُلْ سِيْرُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوْا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلُؕ كَانَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ مُّشْرِكِيْنَ‏(42)

QUL SEEROO FIL ARZE FAN-ZOROO KAYFA KAANA A’AQEBATUL LAZEENA MIN QABL, KAANA AKSAROHUM MUSHREKEEN.

Say, ‘Travel over the land, and see how was the fate of those who were before [you], most of whom were polytheists.’

فَاَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّيْنِ الْقَيِّمِ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يَّاْتِىَ يَوْمٌ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهٗ مِنَ اللّٰهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَّصَّدَّعُوْنَ‏(43)

FA-AQIM WAJHAKA LID-DEENIL QAYYEME MIN QABLE ANY YAATEYA YAWMUL LAA MARADDA LAHU MENAL LAAHE YAWMA-EZINY YASSADDA-O’ON.

So set your heart on the upright religion, before there comes a day irrevocable from Allah. On that day they shall be split [into various groups].

مَنْ كَفَرَ فَعَلَيْهِ كُفْرُهٗۚ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحاً فَلِاَنْفُسِهِمْ يَمْهَدُوْنَۙ ‏(44)

MAN KAFARA FA-A’LAYHE KUFROH, WA MAN A’MELA SAALEHAN FALE-ANFOSEHIM YAMHADOONA.

Whoever is faithless shall face the consequences of his faithlessness, and those who act righteously only prepare for their own souls,

لِيَجْزِىَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوْا الصّٰلِحٰتِ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖؕ اِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ‏(45)

LE-YAJZEYAL LAZEENA AAMANOO WA A’MELUS SAALEHAATE MIN FAZLEH, INNAHU LAA YOHIBBUL KAAFEREEN.

so that He may reward those who have faith and do righteous deeds out of His grace. Indeed, He does not like the faithless.

وَمِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖۤ اَنْ يُّرْسِلَ الرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرٰتٍ وَّلِيُذِيْقَكُمْ مِّنْ رَّحْمَتِهٖ وَلِتَجْرِىَ الْفُلْكُ بِاَمْرِهٖ وَلِتَبْتَغُوْا مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُوْنَ‏(46)

WA MIN AAYAATEHI ANY YURSELAR REYAAHA MOBASH-SHERAATINW WA LE-YOZEEQAKUM MIR RAHMATEHI WA LE-TAJREYAL FULKO BE-AMREHI WA LE-TABTAGHOO MIN FAZLEHI WA LA-A’LLAKUM TASHKOROON.

And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bearers of good news and to let you taste of His mercy, and that the ships may sail by His command, and that you may seek of His bounty, and so that you may give [Him] thanks.

وَ لَقَدْ اَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ رُسُلًا اِلٰى قَوْمِهِمْ فَجَآءُوْهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اَجْرَمُوْا ؕ وَكَانَ حَقًّا عَلَيْنَا نَصْرُ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ‏(47)

WA LAQAD ARSALNAA MIN QABLEKA ROSOLAN ELAA QAWMEHIM FA-JAAA-OOHUM BIL-BAYYENAATE FAN-TAQAMNAA MENAL LAZEENA AJRAMOO WA KAANA HAQQAN A’LAYNAA NASRUL MOAMENEEN.

Certainly We sent apostles to their people before you, and they brought them manifest proofs. Then We took vengeance upon those who were guilty, and it was a must for Us to help the faithful.

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِىْ يُرْسِلُ الرِّيٰحَ فَتُثِيْرُ سَحَابًا فَيَبْسُطُهٗ فِى السَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ وَيَجْعَلُهٗ كِسَفًا فَتَرَى الْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلٰلِهٖۚ فَاِذَاۤ اَصَابَ بِهٖ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهٖۤ اِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُوْنَۚ‏(48)

ALLAAHUL LAZEE YURSELUR REYAAHA FA-TOSEERO SAHAABAN FA-YABSOTOHU FIS SAMAAA-E KAYFA YASHAAA-O WA YAJ-A’LOHU KESAFAN FATARAL WADQA YAKHROJO MIN KHELAALEH, FA-EZAA ASAABA BEHI MANY YASHAAA-O MIN E’BAADEHI EZAA HUM YASTABSHEROON.

It is Allah who sends the winds. Then they generate a cloud, then He spreads it as He wishes in the sky, and forms it into fragments, whereat you see the rain issuing from its midst. Then, when He strikes with it whomever of His servants that He wishes, behold, they rejoice;

وَاِنْ كَانُوْا مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يُّنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِّنْ قَبْلِهٖ لَمُبْلِسِيْنَ‏(49)

WA IN KAANOO MIN QABLE ANY YONAZZALA A’LAYHIM MIN QABLEHI LAMUBLESEEN.

and indeed they had been despondent earlier, before it was sent down upon them.

فَانْظُرْ اِلٰٓى اٰثٰرِ رَحْمَتِ اللّٰهِ كَيْفَ يُحْىِ الْاَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ؕ اِنَّ ذٰ لِكَ لَمُحْىِ الْمَوْتٰى ۚ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ‏(50)

FANZUR ELAA AASAARE RAHMATIL LAAHE KAYFA YOHYIL ARZA BA’DA MAWTEHAA, INNA ZAALEKA LA-MOHYIL MAWTAA, WA HOWA A’LAA KULLE SHAY-IN QADEER.

So observe the effects of Allah’s mercy: how He revives the earth after its death! Indeed He is the reviver of the dead, and He has power over all things.

وَلَئِنْ اَرْسَلْنَا رِيْحًا فَرَاَوْهُ مُصْفَرًّا لَّظَلُّوْا مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ يَكْفُرُوْنَ‏(51)

WA LAIN ARSALNAA REEHAN FA-RA-AW-HO MUSFARRAL LAZALLOO MIM BA’DEHI YAKFOROON.

And if We send a wind and they see it turn yellow, they will surely become ungrateful after that.

فَاِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ الْمَوْتٰى وَلَا تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ الدُّعَآءَ اِذَا وَلَّوْا مُدْبِرِيْنَ‏(52)

FA-INNAKA LAA TUSME-U’L MAWTAA WA LAA TUSME-U’S SUMMAD DO-A’AAA-A EZAA WALLAW MUDBEREEN.

Indeed you cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs [upon you],

وَمَاۤ اَنْتَ بِهٰدِ الْعُمْىِ عَنْ ضَلٰلَتِهِمْؕ اِنْ تُسْمِعُ اِلَّا مَنْ يُّؤْمِنُ بِاٰيٰتِنَا فَهُمْ مُّسْلِمُوْنَ‏(53)

WA MAA ANTA BEHAADIL U’MYE A’N ZALAALATEHIM, IN TUSME-O’ ILLAA MANY YOAMENO BE-AAYAATENAA FAHUM MUSLEMOON.

nor can you lead the blind out of their error. You can make only those hear who have faith in Our signs and have submitted.

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِىْ خَلَقَكُمْ مِّنْ ضُؔعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ ضُؔعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضُؔعْفًا وَّشَيْبَةً ؕ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيْمُ الْقَدِيْرُ‏(54)

ALLAAHUL LAZEE KHALAQAKUM MIN ZO’FIN SUMMA JA-A’LA MIM BA’DE ZO’FIN QUWWATAN SUMMA JA-A’LA MIM BA’DE QUWWATIN ZO’FANW WA SHAYBAH, YAKHLOQO MAA YASHAAA, WA HOWAL A’LEEMUL QADEER.

It is Allah who created you from [a state of] weakness, then He gave you power after weakness. Then, after power, He ordained weakness and old age: He creates whatever He wishes, and He is the All-knowing, the All-powerful.

وَيَوْمَ تَقُوْمُ السَّاعَةُ يُقْسِمُ الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ ۙ مَا لَبِثُوْا غَيْرَ سَاعَةٍ ؕ كَذٰلِكَ كَانُوْا يُؤْفَكُوْنَ‏(55)

WA YAWMA TAQOOMUS SAA-A’TO YUQSEMUL MUJREMOONA, MAA LABESOO GHAYRA SAA-A’H, KAZAALEKA KAANOO YOAFAKOON.

On the day when the Hour sets in, the guilty will swear that they had remained only for an hour. That is how they were used to lying [in the world].

وَقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ اُوْتُوا الْعِلْمَ وَ الْاِيْمَانَ لَقَدْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِىْ كِتٰبِ اللّٰهِ اِلٰى يَوْمِ الْبَعْثِ فَهٰذَا يَوْمُ الْبَعْثِ وَلٰكِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ‏(56)

WA QAALAL LAZEENA OOTUL I’LMA WAL EEMAANA LAQAD LABISTUM FEE KETAABIL LAAHE ELAA YAWMIL BA’S, FA-HAAZAA YAWMUL BA’SE WA LAA-KINNAKUM KUNTUM LAA TA’LAMOON.

But those who were given knowledge and faith will say, ‘Certainly you remained in Allah’s Book until the Day of Resurrection. This is the Day of Resurrection, but you did not know.’

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يَنْفَعُ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُوْنَ‏(57)

FA-YAWMA-EZIL LAA YANFA-U’L LAZEENA ZALAMOO MA’ZERATOHUM WA LAA HUM YUSTA’TABOON.

On that day, the excuses of the wrongdoers will not benefit them, nor will they be asked to propitiate [Allah].

وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِىْ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍؕ وَلَئِنْ جِئْتَهُمْ بِاٰيَةٍ لَّيَقُوْلَنَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْۤا اِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا مُبْطِلُوْنَ‏(58)

WA LAQAD ZARABNAA LIN NAASE FEE HAAZAL QUR-AANE MIN KULLE MASAL, WA LAIN JEATAHUM BE-AAYATIL LAYAQOOLANNAL LAZEENA KAFAROO IN ANTUM ILLAA MUBTELOON.

Certainly we have drawn for mankind in this Quran every [kind of] parable. Indeed if you bring them a sign, the faithless will surely say, ‘You are nothing but fabricators!’

كَذٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى قُلُوْبِ الَّذِيْنَ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ‏(59)

KAZAALEKA YATBA-U’L LAAHO A’LAA QOLOOBIL LAZEENA LAA YA’LAMOON.

Thus does Allah seal the hearts of those who do not know.

فَاصْبِرْ اِنَّ وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّ وَّلَا يَسْتَخِفَّنَّكَ الَّذِيْنَ لَا يُوْقِنُوْنَ‏(60)

FAS-BIR INNA WA’DAL LAAHE HAQQUNW WA LAA YASTAKHIFFANNAKAL LAZEENA LAA YOOQENOON.

So be patient! Allah’s promise is indeed true. And do not let yourself be upset by those who have no conviction.
