(2) Munajaat for True Repentance

Text and Translation

ااَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ ٱلرَّجَاءَ لِسَعَةِ رَحْمَتِكَ

allahumma inna alrraja'a lisa`ati rahmatika

O Allah, it is my hope for Your expansive mercy

انْطَقَنِي بِٱسْتِقَالَتِكَ

antaqani bistiqalatika

that has motivated me to ask for accepting my true repentance,

وَٱلامَلَ لانَِاتِكَ وَرِفْقِكَ

wal-amala li'anatika wa rifqika

and it is my hope for Your forbearance and leniency

شَجَّعَنِي عَلَىٰ طَلَبِ امَانِكَ وَعَفْوِكَ

shajja`ani `ala talabi amanika wa `afwika

that has encouraged me to beg Your security and pardon.

وَلِي يَا رَبِّ ذُنُوبٌ

wa li ya rabbi dhunubun

O my Lord, I have committed sins,

قَدْ وَاجَهَتْهَا اوْجُهُ ٱلٱِنْتِقَامِ

qad wajahat-ha awjuhu alintiqami

which are worthy of encountering Your punishment,

وَخَطَايَا قَدْ لاَحَظَتْهَا اعْيُنُ ٱلٱِصْطِلاَمِ

wa khataya qad lahazat-ha a`yunu alistilami

and [I have committed] wrongdoings, which have been observed by the eyes of eradication

وَٱسْتَوْجَبْتُ بِهَا عَلَىٰ عَدْلِكَ الِيمَ ٱلْعَذَابِ

wastawjabtu biha `ala `adlika alima al`adhabi

and due to which, I deserve Your painful chastisement despite of Your justice,

وَٱسْتَحْقَقْتُ بِٱجْتِرَاحِهَا مُبِيرَ ٱلْعِقَابِ

wastahqaqtu bijtirahiha mubira al`iqabi

and because I have committed these wrongdoings, I earn Your annihilating punishment.

وَخِفْتُ تَعْوِيقَهَا لإِِجَابَتِي

wa khiftu ta`wiqaha li'ijabati

I am thus afraid that these wrongdoings will obstruct You from responding to me

وَرَدَّهَا إِيَّايَ عَنْ قَضَاءِ حَاجَتِي

wa raddaha iyyaya `an qada'i hajati

and will make You refuse to grant me my requests,

بِإِبْطَالِهَا لِطَلِبَتِي

bi'ibtaliha litalibati

since they are violative enough to abolish my petition

وَقَطْعِهَا لاِسْبَابِ رَغْبَتِي

wa qat`ha li'asbabi raghbati

and to cut off the factors of achieving my desires,

مِنْ اجْلِ مَا قَدْ انْقَضَ ظَهْرِي مِنْ ثِقْلِهَا

min ajli ma qad anqada zahri min thiqliha

because their overburdens have pressed heavily upon my back

وَبَهَظَنِي مِنَ ٱلٱِسْتِقْلاَلِ بِحَمْلِهَا

wa bahazani min alistiqlali bihamliha

and their loads have been too heavy for me to burden.

ثُمَّ تَرَاجَعْتُ رَبِّ إِلىٰ حِلْمِكَ عَنِ ٱلْخَاطِئِينَ

thumma taraja`tu rabbi ila hilmika `an alkhati'ina

But when I recalled Your forbearance, O my Lord, with the wrongdoers,

وَعَفْوِكَ عَنِ ٱلْمُذْنِبِينَ

wa `afwika `an almudhnibina

Your forgiveness to the sinful,

وَرَحْمَتِكَ لِلْعَاصِينَ

wa rahmatika lil`asina

and Your mercy to the disobedient,

فَاقْبَلْتُ بِثِقَتِي مُتَوَكِّلاًَ عَلَيْكَ

fa'aqbaltu bithiqati mutawakkilan `alayka

I, carrying my trust in You and relying on You, came towards You,

طَارِحاً نَفْسِي بَيْنَ يَدَيكَ

tarihan nafsi bayna yadayka

throwing myself in Your Presence,

شَاكِياً بَثِّي إِلَيْكَ

shakiyan baththi ilayka

complaining about my grief to You,

سَائِلاًَ رَبِّ مَا لاَ اسْتَوْجِبُهُ مِنْ تَفْرِيجِ ٱلْهَمِّ

sa'ilan rabbi ma la astawjibuhu min tafriji alhammi

praying You, O my Lord, for what I do not deserve from You; that is relief from my distress,

وَلاَ اسْتَحِقُّهُ مِنْ تَنْفِيسِ ٱلْغَمِّ

wa la astahiqquhu min tanfisi alghammi

and for what I do not earn from You; that is alleviation of my anguish,

مُسْتَقِيلاًَ لَكَ رَبِّ إِيَّايَ

mustaqilan rabbi laka iyyaya

declaring my true repentance before You, O my Lord,

وَاثِقاً مَوْلاَيَ بِكَ

wathiqan mawlaya bika

and putting my trust in You, O my Master.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَٱمْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِٱلْفَرَجِ

allahumma famnun `alayya bilfaraji

O Allah, s0 (please) bestow upon me with relief from You,

وَتَطَوَّلْ عَلَيَّ بِسُهُولَةِ ٱلْمَخْرَجِ

wa tatawwal `alayya bisuhulati almakhraji
