(2) Munajaat for True Repentance

Text and Translation

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنَّ الرَّجَاۤءَ لِسَعَةِ رَحْمَتِكَ

ALLAAHUMMA INNAR RAJAAA-A LE-SA-A’TE RAHMATEKA

O Allah, it is my hope for Your expansive mercy

اَنْطَقَنِىْ بِاسْتِقَالَتِكَ

ANTAQANEE BISTEQAALATEKA

that has motivated me to ask for accepting my true repentance,

وَالْاَمَلَ لِاَنَاتِكَ وَ رِفْقِكَ

WAL AMALA LE-ANAATEKA WA RIFQEKA

and it is my hope for Your forbearance and leniency

شَجَّعَنِىْ عَلٰى طَلَبِ اَمَانِكَ وَ عَفْوِكَ

SHAJJA-A’NEE A’LAA TALABE AMAANEKA WA A’FWEKA

that has encouraged me to beg Your security and pardon.

وَلِىْ يَا رَبِّ ذُنُوْبٌ

WA LEE YAA RABBE ZONOOBUN

O my Lord, I have committed sins,

قَدْ وَاجَهَتْهَاۤ اَوْجُهُ الْاِنْتِقَامِ

QAD WAAJAHAT-HAA AWJOHUL INTEQAAME

which are worthy of encountering Your punishment,

وَ خَطَايَا قَدْ لَاحَظَتْهَاۤ اَعْيُنُ الْاِصْطِلَامِ

WA KHATAAYAA QAD LAAHAZAT-HAA A-A’YONUL ISTELAAME

and [I have committed] wrongdoings, which have been observed by the eyes of eradication

وَاسْتَوْجَبْتُ بِهَا عَلٰى عَدْلِكَ اَلِيْمَ الْعَذَابِ

WAS TAWJABTO BEHAA A’LAA A’DLEKA ALEEMAL A’ZAABE

and due to which, I deserve Your painful chastisement despite of Your justice,

وَ اسْتَحْقَقْتُ بِاجْتِرَاحِهَا مُبِيْرَ الْعِقَابِ

WAS TAHQAQTO BIJ-TERAAHEHAA MOBEERAL E’QAABE

and because I have committed these wrongdoings, I earn Your annihilating punishment.

وَ خِفْتُ تَعْوِيْقَهَا لِاِجَابَتِىْ

WA KHIFTO TA’WEEQAHAA LE-EJAABATEE

I am thus afraid that these wrongdoings will obstruct You from responding to me

وَ رَدَّهَاۤ اِيَّاىَ عَنْ قَضَاۤءِ حَاجَتِىْ

WA RADDAHAA IYYAAYA A’N QAZAAA-E HAAJATEE

and will make You refuse to grant me my requests,

بِاِبْطَالِهَا لِطَلِبَتِىْ

BE-IBTAALEHAA LE-TALEBATEE

since they are violative enough to abolish my petition

وَ قَطْعِهَا لِاَسْبَابِ رَغْبَتِىْ

WA QAT-E’HAA LE-ASBAABE RAGHBATEE

wa qat`ha li'asbabi raghbati

and to cut off the factors of achieving my desires,

مِنْ اَجْلِ مَا قَدْ اَنْقَضَ ظَهْرِىْ مِنْ ثِقْلِهَا

MIN AJLE MAA QAD ANQAZA ZAHREE MIN SIQLEHAA

because their overburdens have pressed heavily upon my back

وَ بَهَظَنِىْ مِنَ الْاِسْتِقْلَالِ بِحَمْلِهَا

WA BAHAZANEE MENAL ISTEQLAALE BE-HAMLEHAA

and their loads have been too heavy for me to burden.

ثُمَّ تَرَاجَعْتُ رَبِّ اِلٰى حِلْمِكَ عَنِ الْخَاطِئِيْنَ

SUMMA TARAAJA’TO RABBE ELAA HILMEKA A’NIL KHAATE-EENA

But when I recalled Your forbearance, O my Lord, with the wrongdoers,

وَ عَفْوِكَ عَنِ الْمُذْنِبِيْنَ

WA A’FWEKA A’NIL MUZNEBEENA

Your forgiveness to the sinful,

وَ رَحْمَتِكَ لِلْعَاصِيْنَ

WA RAHMATEKA LIL-A’ASEENA

and Your mercy to the disobedient,

فَاَقْبَلْتُ بِثِقَتِىْ مُتَوَكِّلًا عَلَيْكَ

FA-AQBALTO BE-SEQATEE MOTAWAKKELAN A’LAYKA

I, carrying my trust in You and relying on You, came towards You,

طَارِحًا نَفْسِىْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

TAAREHAN NAFSEE BAYNA YADAYKA

throwing myself in Your Presence,

شَاكِيًا بَثِّىْ اِلَيْكَ

SHAAKEYAN BASSEE ELAYKA

complaining about my grief to You,

سَاۤئِلًا مَّالَاۤ اَسْتَوْجِبُهٗ مِنْ تَفْرِيْجِ الْهَمِّ

SAA-ELAM MAA LAA ASTAWJEBOHU MIN TAFREEJIL HAMME

praying You, O my Lord, for what I do not deserve from You; that is relief from my distress,

وَلَاۤ اَسْتَحِقُّهٗ مِنْ تَنْفِيْسِ الْغَمِّ

WA LAA ASTAHIQQOHU MIN TANFEESIL GHAMME

and for what I do not earn from You; that is alleviation of my anguish,

مُسْتَقِيْلًا لَّكَ اِيَّاىَ

MUSTAQEELAL LAKA IYYAAYA

declaring my true repentance before You

وَاثِقًا مَّوْلَاىَ بِكَ.

WAASEQAM MAWLAAYA BEKA.

wathiqan mawlaya bika

and putting my trust in You, O my Master.

اَللّٰهُمَّ فَامْنُنْ عَلَىَّ بِالْفَرَجِ

ALLAAHUMMA FAMNUN A’LAYYA BIL-FARAJE

O Allah, s0 (please) bestow upon me with relief from You,
